John Barresi Posted November 5, 2005 Report Posted November 5, 2005 We've just added a Google Member Map to this forum, which allows you to put your marker on the world wide interactive map... Rest easy, you don't have to geocode right down to your address... Nailing it down to the city, state and country is enough. It's not mandatory or anything, but this is a pretty cool feature a lot of you might enjoy. http://kitelife.com/forum/index.php?act=gmap Go leave your mark on the world! Quote
godric Posted November 18, 2005 Report Posted November 18, 2005 Judging from the map, everybody but AudioRob is an inland dweller, and the Northwest US valleys are hotbeds of kiting! Guess all the beach flyers must be out flying in that gorgeous clean wind, and not sitting around at the computer wishing the wind would either (1) start blowing or (2) pick a direction in which to blow ... Quote
audioRob Posted November 18, 2005 Report Posted November 18, 2005 Strange I feel that daily... "Man the wind is coming out of the wrong direction" "Wish the wind would pick a direction" "Wow, it's way too light to fly today" "Wow, it's way too ligh... HOLY CRAP MY LINES! *runs half a mile to fetch his kite*" etc.. Not all it's cracked up to be, especially since our main beach is on the west and winds are almost always out of the east overtop big nasty hotels. On the east coast (yes there's 2 coasts within 15 minutes of here) it's always low wind and extremely bright. Quote
godric Posted November 19, 2005 Report Posted November 19, 2005 I can identify -- I tried to fly at a beach in California recently, and missed the sweet spot by about 300 yards (as the crow flies -- more like a mile and a half as I would have had to travel to get there). The breeze was offshore, and coming off the top of the cliff behind me, and I was in a hole, wind-wise. I'm betting, though, that the forum has a lot of members who live at the beach and who could direct us inlanders to some clean wind. If only we knew who they were, and where to find them ... Quote
ant man Posted August 1, 2006 Report Posted August 1, 2006 where i live i have both beach and inland but that doesnt mean we dont have bad days with no wind or gusty winds storms travel therugh here alot makeing the weather a mess Quote
John Barresi Posted August 13, 2006 Author Report Posted August 13, 2006 The member map is back online... Place yourself! http://kitelife.com/forum/index.php?act=gmap Quote
roguekiter Posted August 14, 2006 Report Posted August 14, 2006 John, How come it kicks me out (back to the Forum) when I try to zoom in on someone's (mine in this case) location? Ed Quote
John Barresi Posted August 14, 2006 Author Report Posted August 14, 2006 Not sure, it's working okay on my end... Anyone else? Quote
Grandpa Posted August 15, 2006 Report Posted August 15, 2006 Works for me... but wait, now I'm paranoid... All you kite tuggers know where I live... I guess it takes one to know one. Quote
roguekiter Posted August 15, 2006 Report Posted August 15, 2006 Hmmmmm Maybe it's a setting in that fine browser that I'm using (Internet Exploder 6). The zoom 'slide bar' works okay but if I try to click (left or right) on someone's 'pin' and select 'Navigate: Zoom In', it initially zooms in and then immediately redirects to the Forum. I don't think it used to do this but I'm not positive it didn't. Either way, it's NBD (no big deal). Quote
John Barresi Posted August 15, 2006 Author Report Posted August 15, 2006 Sounds like an IE 6 issue... Try FireFox, a much better browser. And it's free! http://www.mozilla.org Quote
Dan Posted August 15, 2006 Report Posted August 15, 2006 Awesome feature! I was wondering how many of us there were on the East Coast. Little bit sad now. =( Was hoping someone around here could tell me of better fields to fly at. All the large fields are so sheltered in my area. Any more Northern Virginia flyers around here? ~Dan Quote
