  3. I would recommend 50# line instead of 90#. Even a beginner with a light wind kite will notice the difference . I really enjoy the 120’ foot set as it’s such a larger wind window, and gives beginners a larger area for recovery. My somewhat sketchy opinion....fly on...... 4. You might be a kite nut if... You walk into a restaurant to have dinner with friends only to yelp in pain as you sit down, then sheepishly remove a ground stake from your back pocket and put it on the table like some kind of strange eating utensil.

  5. Hi all, This karma drawing is for a Premier Widow NG in excellent overall condition with the exception of a broken bridle (left side only - right is still intact for copying) and a very small hole in the leading edge material (no danger of expanding). Normally sold for about $200, this was one of the kites I used while training my teammates on Team KiteLife, a quick bridle replacement / repair (like $1-$2 worth of bridle line) and you’ve got yourself a champ! Remember, the winner pays it forward with something from their own bag or shopping list (take a look at our past drawings for examples) - reply here with “I’m in” to enter! IN so far: @Breezin @jeepinjeepin @LookuPLars @Mike Klaiber @Sonex128 @T in WI @Deke Haid @Cosa Drawing on July 10th! == Some rules and guidelines: Don’t play unless you’re willing to put up a prize and ship it to whoever wins. Shipping is paid by the original poster, the winner pays nothing. Be prepared to ship your prize anywhere in the lower 48 US States. Sorry, but due to shipping costs, we really have to limit this to the lower 48 US States. RULE CHANGE (7/31/2014): Members from Canada, Alaska, and Hawaii are welcome to enter the Karma drawings provided they are willing to pay half of the Karma prize shipping cost. The method and timing of the payment will be agreed upon between the two parties after the drawing for a particular prize. You can choose the length of the giveaway, but keep it between 1 and 2 weeks. Try to ship the prize promptly. You should be able to ship it within a week, but if you can’t, PM the winner and let them know. Sometimes life gets in the way! This whole thing works on the honor system so if there are any problems shipping or receiving a prize, it needs to be worked out between the two parties. Don’t forget…Karma! This isn’t a competition, but feel free to be generous! If you can only put up a hat, or a tail for a stunt kite, great! If you have something in your kite bag that you never fly and would be willing to ship, that’s great too. Either way, the people that join to win it will appreciate it. When you receive your prize, post a thank you to the thread where you won it. The thread will be locked after that point so the new **KARMA** stays above it. 8. The EXP is Rev's "intro" to quad and is generally a slightly heavier sail.. I'll be honest with you, for the same price as a new EXP you can get the Freilein Vertigo which is significantly lighter and has better low wind performance.. There's also the option for a older Rev B-Series used which I have a feeling will be much easier to find soon as there is a new quad on the horizon many of us are looking forward to. If the EXP will meet your needs to learn on, then so be it but I have not found an experienced individual that considers them to be a low wind option. They are much more of a general baseline option. The Lower wind options are Revolution Zen if you can find one, Rev Ghost, Rev Phantom, Several 1.5 SUL versions and the Freilein Vertigo.. For a bit more $$ the Phoenix Ashes (by Bazzer) is a great low wind sail.

  9. Well, after some frantic FaceBook dead-of-night messaging between myself, Wayne D and Patrick T, I seem to have found the answer to the problem. Patrick described how to increase the dihedral by some microsurgery, which in turn made the spreader stand more proud of the sail. With a bit of tweaking now I think I can get this little bird to fly pretty – already it's performing much better than it did. Thanks everyone. Martyn

  10. From your picture, it looks like the Griffin 3-stripe, which would be the middle of the 3 versions, and framed in carbon fibre (Bemans?). The basic version (I still have mine!) was framed in something like J-65 fibreglass. Heavier! Floppier! Bullet proof! Needs about 7mph to get going! The top end was the 5-stripe, done up in polyester (icarex?) cloth and wrapped rods, with a commensurately lower end in the wind range. Your version may vary from this, however. In any case a classic kite indeed, imo. . .

  13. My 19' delta scared the wee woggins out of me. But I'm a sissy so I sold it.

  14. I have the 11 footer. It's been a while since I have flown it, so I don't remember wind conditions, but it flew well. I think it might have taken a bit more wind than your average delta, but not much more, to get it off the ground.

  15. Overall, mesh based designs are more tolerant of gusts and gusty conditions.

  16. My sincere apologies and regrets to those of you trying to contain your kite accumulating jitters. Flew right on past nuts and now approaching kite 🤪. Next kite should be here by Tues. Dipping into my Super Fly fund pretty hard.

  17. Thanks, I appreciate that. I'm an "aspiring photographer". Still learning, but getting little by little. ☺

  18. Thanks, Wayne. But I've done that. They lie perfectly in line and equal one side to the other. I've pm-ed Patrick Tan and am hoping he responds. We shall see.

  19. Have you tried replacing the pixie dust? The original may be worn out -- it has a 3-year half-life when exposed to kites -- or it may have come from a weak batch when it was made. I have 1-quart jars available at $49.95 USD + shipping . This will last the average flyer a lifetime as long as it is properly stored. Also available in 1-pint containers at $29.95 USD + shipping for the weekend warriors. I've had it available in 55-gallon drums for the pros but never had a taker. The dust I sell is 100% full-strength undiluted pixie dust with no additives. Guaranteed to get your kite higher than it's ever been. Sprinkle just a pinch between the spar and tail and you're good to go.

  20. But wait -- It gets even better! Hi, Cosa, and welcome to the forum. Tell us a bit about yourself and your experience with kiting. If you need help with anything involving kites, you're in the right place. It's good to have you on board. I look forward to flying with you some day. Have fun, smile and don't forget to breathe.

  21. I hold the frayed part toward the side of the flame. The closer you get to the bottom of the flame the less heat so you can control the melt rate by where the fabric contacts the flame. Top of the flame is hot. Bottom is cold a lot less hot. You can use pretty much anything between the spar and the sail as a wear strip. You can use masking tape if you don't care how it looks. Just remember that anything you use adds weight. To me kites are like tires on a car. They will wear out eventually if you use them. When they wear out I replace them. I like the new ones, and have many spares just in case one wears out.

  22. Thanks for the reply. I just ordered my kite. Apparently, it will be one of the new sail patterns for the exp. I ended up getting an extra set of 80ft lines and a bunch of spare parts so that I'm not dead in the water if something breaks. Shipping to Mexico is sketchy sometimes so I'm trying to be self sufficient. Can't wait to get my new toy! Off to watch videos now so that I don't totally destroy it on my maiden flight.
