  1. You did great Jon, like I said... It'll come to you really quick.
  2. I think it's relative... A lot of these guys were in your shoes just a few months ago, and will be able to speak on it directly. However, here's my other essential breakdown: In my opinion, without any prior knowledge or resources, dual lines are easier to learn (in theory) because they're linear, the fly forward under tension, it's easy to grasp. With a little bit of basic knowledge (first-hand or via forums), I'd say the Rev is an easier kite to learn and fly, certainly to advance on. The dual line kites require more hand speed to get really good at, and a certain degree of athleticism, whereas anyone can fly a Rev, in nearly any wind. FYI, the avatar was made from a real photo, shot when I was doing this (another time):
  3. Ha, we had rainbows and pretty darned good wind.
  4. Welcome James! Have you tuned into the main differences between dual and quad line? Dual line examples: http://www.youtube.c...h?v=2BzGeKmgKUAQuad line examples: The way I describe it, dual line kites are like an agile attack jet, Revs are like maneuverable attack helicopters. I love both dearly, having enjoyed both for over 20 years now.
  5. This marks over 12 years of Kitelife, our deepest thanks to all of you for being a part of it!
  6. Right on brother, bring a cup and we'll serve ya hot tea.
  7. Jon, try the dedicated Shoutbox page (link in navbar) to see if the problem persists there?
  8. Pinkies behind the handles is alright, as long as it doesn't limit your ability to change hand position on demand. Trick is locking the handles with thumb, index and middle finger, laying loose with the bottom two fingers. Also, turning your hands slightly sideways, assuming an "a-frame" position with the handles will ease the stress.
  9. A couple of videos for perspective on body work...
  10. Yeah, pretty close to 2" here too... Not my bag, but whatever. Off work today?
  11. Word on the street has it that the mfg end of Four Winds was purchased by one of the folks who worked with Erv. I did also hear that Gail will be attending KTAI in January, not sure in what capacity. Thanks for updating this topic John. Odd note, I actually have the last kite that Erv ever sewed himself, a custom "Nos", one the latest designs done by him and Reggie Yaplee.
  12. Either way, BRING IT. <GRIN>
  13. A few more... http://www.revkites.com/forum/index.php?/topic/256-newbie-question-handle-orientation/ And one of my personal favorites... http://www.revkites.com/forum/index.php?/topic/1870-sharing-a-response/
  14. Comes down to line tension and hand position. It feels awkward at first, but you'll start to understand and appreciate it after a few hours, I promise you. Thing is, although it may not seem like it, you're probably still controlling the kite primarily in a static body/arm position. Here are couple of great topics to check out on the Rev forum until I get a hold of you on New Years... http://www.revkites.com/forum/index.php?/topic/1205-b-series-handle-tuning/
  15. Bow bow chikky chikky bow bow...
  16. Oh, and we've got a spot waiting for you on the Rev forum now that you're sharing time with the dark side.
  17. Just wanted to give this a separate post, happy birthday mate... Enjoy your new Rev, new wife, and your trip to the beach with all! See you on New Years.
  18. Yep, bottoms needn't be more than 2"-3" in length, they're fixed length pigtails. I do recommend the longer tops, but other than that, we'll compare notes on Friday.
  19. So dark, you see the Light and go full circle. You know what I mean.
  20. Hey, you double the subscriptions, I'll work on more drawings for sure. With Kitelife being my full time job, it's tough to round up prizes on top of covering the cost of operations! If my primary goal was to make money, I'd have dropped all my advertisers a long time ago and opened up my own store alongside the magazine. Been there, thought about it, not worth the ripple effect across the community and industry, although then I wouldn't have to worry about bills each month.
  21. Fair enough, it's too easy, after all.
  22. Jon, you'll need to nearly double the length of those top leaders. (not kidding) See my PM.
  23. John, where is the link? (I wanna see!) Found it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Gpj2BMoUpM
  24. No secret. If I remember right, we've got two folks with two subscription (quaa714 is the other kind soul).
