Would like to just clarify some of the terminology with regards to Skyshark. Please correct me if I've said anything in error here. P200 is pretty close to P2X, P2X Red and P2X Camo P300 is pretty close to P3X Red P400 is pretty close to P4X, P4X Red and P4X Camo Now a P2T, P3T etc.. would be a tapered rod and is a different animal entirely. The tapered rods are used more often in the Duallies as you suggested. concerning the P2X Red and P3X Red Rods XT =Tapers XL = Extra Long Per Kites and Fun things Website FWIW, I keep a P90 frame in my bag right beside the Rev Diamond frame.

I typically order the P2X camo & P4X camo rods. they work great. Light wind kites I frame P2X. Oversize, I'll swap out the center for P4X. Sometimes I'll swap out the whole frame depending on the kite. The P2x red rods are pretty much the same as the P2x camo. I haven't done one so light that I would use a tapered frame yet. There is merit to a tapered frame in ultralight applications but I personally havenot done it. For the record, I've yet to break a camo rod.

Finally got a chance to fly it a bit on short lines. Used my travel frame. Winds near Boston today were 18-25 and whipping pretty soundly.. Kite was great. It ate the gusts like they weren't even there. Nice balanced pressure across the entire sail area. Kite responded like a whip when the proper inputs were given. reaction time on short lines was crazy

Definitely one I'll keep in the bag for those higher wind days..

Without any further delay. Karma April 24, 2019
riffclown replied to jeepinjeepin's topic in Karma Drawings
New Karma!!! New Karma!!! The wait is over. Thanks again @jeepinjeepin for waiting out the cold winter lull.. -
New Drawing is Up.. Thanks @jeepinjeepin Locking this thread down to keep clutter to a minimum..
-
@jeepinjeepin I haven't spoken with @John Barresi But I think it's an appropriate time to start the karma back up. Thank you for riding out the lull and being ready to engage. Let us know if you need anything on this end..

Waiting for conditions...

Alas, no, the center star is just white icarex. I haven't done the math especially since this is B2 sized. I'm honestly thinking closer to a full vent though..

The final trim is far from done. It will likely lose 1-2 inches of the Blue center panel when cut down to size. It's intentionally oversized at this point because it's far easier to remove excess materiel than it is to add additional. Also keep in mind this was originally cut down from a 1.5 size so I do have excess fabric to work with on several measurements. The LE tabs are only on both sides for the enter and where a spar would attach.. The reinforcement tabs are one side only. Once the LE is centered and attached, I'll trim the sail including the Trailing Edge to its final dimensions. At that point it will be edge binding, framing and bridling left. Done sewing for the weekend. Will likely finish this up one evening or next weekend.
-
Panels are all attached now. finished the sewing for the panels since this pic was taken.. Probably won't finish this today. I've reached a good stopping point and I'm ready to take a break.
-
Getting there.. Quite a bit will come off the trailing edge during the final cut but I decided on a Keystone shaped center panel with an applique star. Ready to join the three panels and start sewing..Using Red thread for this kite. Edge Binding will be Red.
-
Still some planning to do on how I want to incorporate the blue and center panel but here's the first layout (Kite is still oversized until I determine center panel plan)

Kites and Fun Things. Same place I get Icarex and Skyshark Rods....

After looking at it closely, I think I've decided to make a smaller (72") sized sail. I can do that using just the overlaps. Since it's my first vented, I don't want to have to make 2 if the design doesn't hold well. Everything outside of the rulers would become waste (or part of the bag.)
-
The First panel is basted. Decided to take a couple of shots to show the venting diamond. My hope is to provide more feel and more balance in a vented design.
-
OK, Decision is made and fabric has been cut.. There will be 2 sails made on this run because I'm taking @Wayne Dowler comment to heart to make this symmetrical, I actually have to because of one simple decision. I'm also going with a solid blue center panel similar to #1 but using the stripe pattern of #5. @Breezin gave me the idea to mix it up and yet I still wanted to do something different entirely. It's kind of difficult to see in the video but every other white diamond is actually white poly mesh. This will be my first diamonds VENTED. To balance the venting I'll have to make 2 very similar sails..

That's a good sign. more than likely you will be fine.

That looks like the bridle was caught on grass or a twig or something and it unraveled the bridle line a bit. It's not normal wear. It's actual damage. It will be weaker there for sure. It can be repaired but you have to be super careful not to alter the bridle design trying to repair it. If you apply tension to the segment does it straighten back out or is something else going on? Use the yellow circles to to see where I'm talking about applying tension. If it straightens back out, you may be OK. If something else is going on a repair on some level is probably in order. If you do decide to repair it, find the corresponding bridle segment on the other side and us it as your model to repair this piece.. IIRC, The Symphony Beach uses Dyneema Bridles and the flying line that comes with it is very close to the same material. If ALL else fails you can shorten your flying lines by a few feet to get the material needed for the repair. Make sure you look up how to untie the knots and move the sleeves up before making any attempt to cut anything.
