Welcome to KiteLife!! Listen to your gut, Your kite is a great transition into four line flying with a small bit of alteration. Remember that white knuckled feeling. You'll be trying to recapture it many times in the future.

FWIW, I started sewing mine because I couldn't afford the others.. My bag grew pretty much one kite at the time..

That was subtle..

There's a Kite Festival in a few weeks at the Wright Memorial. Lots of kites there to try..

Framing and Bridling remain.. Edge Binding and wear strips are Purple.. This kite will make it's flying debut hopefully at the Wright Kite Festival in 2 weeks at the Wright Memorial, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills NC. -
Indeed, please share your experiences here.. Looking forward to it.

You could also consider modding the Symphony to four line.. It will put a new smile on your face.

I really wish I could respond but I have zero experience in that area.. I'll volunteer to test anything you come up with though..

Took the day off except to attach the leading edge. It may not be a kite quite yet but it has the matching bag already. -
FWIW, The rest of us are really just jealous..

@Paul LaMasters Probably not but even you have to admit, that few moments on film is your biggest audience ever, captured on film and easily accessible. You and Jim have become the answer to a lot of Kiting's best trivia questions. I for one say, thank you for representing us all for that few moments. You both carried the torch well.

Here's the mock-up from the adapted colorizer. It doesn't really do the pattern justice though in my opinion and the center isn't finalized. More soon as this build progresses.. -
Since my Lightly Vented with a touch of Purple kite has gone to a new home I still need a midvent in my bag and I want to stay with the Purple for this one. Courtesy of a well known kite maker's scrap bin, I have a couple of different classic purples. The older Icarex had rectangular grid instead of the square grid you are used to seeing today. One is very close in tint to the modern Purple. The other is just a touch bluer. I'm starting another lightly vented kite but wanted to tease the initial pattern. Hopefully I'll be able to reveal the pattern this evening.

Apparently the FAA's 5 mile from airport rule is a bunch of BS

FWIW, I've been flying at the same Airfield for nearly 10 years and have only been approached 3 times. Never ever actually had an issue. Don't be an issue and you'll rarely have one. -

It was an event (The Wright Kite Festival) but the Wright Memorial does allow kite flying all the time. It's actually a great place the fly. Hard Ceiling of 500ft if I'm not mistaken. There's a reason the Wright Brothers went to Kitty Hawk/Kill Devil Hills. They knew where the wind was. Let me suggest the common sense approach as you noted and fly your kite responsibly. If you do get approached, land your kite and have an intelligent conversation. Note that your kite goes no higher than "x" feet and if asked to move on then pack up and do so. Politely asking forgiveness and then approaching the conversation with, "what's the proper way for me to get permission?" might also work to your advantage. Don't press your luck on the issue or you will completely blow the opportunity and maybe end up in trouble. FWIW, Ringing ahead will probably just get a blanket "no" to get you off the phone and avoid the issue entirely from their point of view. -
@stickerbush1970 You know me much better than that. I never stop working. A Guitar string folded in half is the simplest Sleeving tool. You can buy sleeving just about anywhere. I use Muzzy Extreme bow fishing line or I pull the core out of Bridle line and use the sleeve from that.. LPG https://thekiteshoppe.com/laser-pro-gold-90-by-333-yard-spool/ A Sprint Sleeving kit is a tool and some sleeving.. (A guitar string is just as good.) https://intothewind.com/stunt-kites/stunt-kite-accessories/sleeving-kit.html One trick that might serve you well. Get a Skybond Dual set just over twice the length you want, chop in half and sleeve for a quad set. A 75' dual set chopped in half will easily yield a 35' quad set.
