Hello, I am traveling with the family to Oregon in late June for a reunion. We are hoping to extend for fun, so I am looking for a place that: *Is fun and family friendly *Won't break the bank *Is near some good flying fields (although we may downplay that part a bit, you know it is important). Anyone have a town or region that they would steer me towards or away from?? Any Oregon things I should be sure to hit? Thanks! Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app

So much heavy rain in Maryland right now that the air looks white and almost like snow. Not much wind though- no sideways rain. Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app

I'm in. Caution though on the beach, it can be very narrow and obliviots were plentiful where I was staying last summer- even after dark. Never saw so many people with flashlights walking on a beach before staying at Duck NC. But I love an adventure.... Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app

Wow, weather looks perfect...And I am excited. I am wiggly with hope for new skills...And maybe overcoming some brain blocks that are holding me back. See y'all Saturday afternoon when I finally roll in. Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app

I have been quite impressed in the KL focus on being a place of respect and friendship through discussion. Your response reinforces this once again. Thanks from a female kiter. Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app

I don't know how I have failed to think of this before- but is there an inclement weather policy? Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app

I'm in. Will arrive midday Saturday....That was the compromise that fit in a date with husband and kite flying. Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app

How many mph of wind does to take to get something with that little sail surface to fly? Or does it weigh so little that it needs less wind? Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app

When I read things like this I don't know if I am glad that my husband doesn't read this forum and so can't be worried by your lists, Or I think: Should I show him your lists as a "see? My two (three thanks to the drawing) revs are not many at all!!" Working to keep my bag lean and light but full of fun. . Currently 2 revB full sails 1 revB full vents One line set each at 30' 80' 120' Still drooling over Shook meshes, but gotta fly for a few years before I go there. Oh good, the guilt of two wins would have been hard to live with. [emoji56] Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app

Oh! It matches my full sail pair and my vented....!!! Anyone ever done two wins in a row??? If I win two in a row will someone e give me a "two revs at at the same time" flying lesson? Although trying to fly two revs at once would blow up my dyslexic brain. Anyone else see that video? I had to stop watching cause I could not figure out how the guy was getting them to move opposite but symmetrically. Even now my frontal lobe twitches just contemplating....Man just watching JBs tutorials without a slow motion section to watch his hands is tough work sometimes. Hello, I am hoping to spend a little more than a month in Santiago Chile in August/September this year. Anyone got recommendations on where there might be good flying fields? Anyone living or flying locally? Any laws I should know about? I am debating on whether to take kites with me or not, so opinions would be helpful. Ah man. I Never planned dates with my husband...Almost NEVER. Well I bought concert tickets for April 8th in Annapolis, and he knows about them. I shouldn't even be thinking about going to this but here I am typing to y'all. Arg. Our last pre-planned date (get ready for the irony folks) was to Flying Smiles kites for my first quad flying lesson....And we all know the "date" part of that was in part to minimize the guilt over doing something I wanted to do during a extended family week at the beach. I don't see anyway to swing this one but hasn't stopped we from thinking on it.... Arg Arg. Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app

Been holding off on subscribing to KiteLife?

Man, couldn't ya hold off on this coupon thing until after the drawing on the rev standard sail??? Gotta make the odds worse for me? Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app -
I have found that I like flying to stuff I don't otherwise want to listen to....it is much easier to imagine and plan what is next for a song you know well...and thus set myself up for frustration when I don't do what I imagined for a favorite song. So for now I stick mostly to songs that I don't have emotional attachment to. I have been just starting an "unplugged instruments" station to stream and letting it go where it goes. I find that to keep learning I have a o pick a skill to focus on each time out. I try to do that skill repeatedly until I get a bit tired then I play and mix in relations within the play. I also find that listening to music helps. Music inspires repeated sequences. Getting the kite to do the same thing repeatedly, rhythmically, and symmetrically is the real goal. What ever you do with your kite at the first chorus of a song remember it and try to repeat it for every chorus. Play in between on the verses. Music also seems to allow my instinct brain take control from my over thinking brain... Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app

Ooooo, 30s are hard. Go for 80s or 120s if you can. With 120s you just feel like the kite responds in real time but there is a bit more time and space to figure it all out before you smack the ground. And with more line you might hit smoother air up there. Welcome to the learning curve....it is steep but fun fun fun. Best part is that it is not a normal bell curve, it is more like a drive over the mountains...up and down up and down with lots of changes in grade. But if you have the patience to work in low gear the coasting is nice. The moments of good flying (just moments still) are as close to being a Jedi that I have ever experienced. You don't need to bother squeezing it in your bag, mine has lots and lots of space. Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app

Oh man, I got in big trouble today when I mentioned this drawing to my husband. He asked how many tickets I had bought and when I admitted that I had not bought in as I kept forgetting to do it when on a "real computer" he was confounded. I will not detail the resulting marital back and forth... The upside is that I have a green light for more than one ticket next year.... Please John...please offer it again next year. I think it is pretty awesome that the general tone of this group is so supportive. Urging contemplation and thoughtful choices - Encouraging someone to think of alternative's ways to look at kiting rather than jumping on looking for a deal is a pretty selfless and supportive response. With all the ugliness and divisiveness that we have seen recently online and in general media it is nice, reassuring even to be involved with others who actively foster a positive tone of interaction. Heck, if I could only have one of the two skills I would choose the one that takes me back up the field any day over the skill that lands me relaunching. I only get a nice throw launch every now and then. The geese have found my flying field recently. They are providing extra incentive for me to keep the sail off the ground. Lots of green incentives that are not monetary. When I do a thrown launch it always seems to launch leading edge down and catches wind pretty close to the ground, on 30' lines. That doesn't leave much airspace to catch myself before plowing into the ground. Am I doing something wrong? Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app

Flew again today and the forward glide was not a fluke! I could glide forward smoothly inverted. Happy wiggle. However, catching the kite is proving hard, even on 30' lines. I don't seem to have. A knack for telling where it will fall. I never was good at catching pop flies. Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app

I was flying on Friday, good mostly steady light winds and had 2 break throughs- one accidental and one just a click. First I was playing at the outer wind window edges when I pushed too far as the wind died a tad - and suddenly my kite stalled directly overhead and started falling at me from 80' up. I had a string of thoughts "I should catch it, I know it can be done, I hope it doesn't hurt- that is silly it is a light kite, dang it is falling fast, oh sh*t it is now or never....." And suddenly it was in my hand. A feeling of silly disbelief settled in as I watched the lines settle to the grass. My first catch, had not even achieved that on 30' lines. Later, when the wind calmed more I was trying the inverted glide forward for field recovery. My inverted glide forward has been inefficient and wobbly at best. Well this time a line from JBs light wind article came to my head like a whisper from Obi Wan to Luke: JB: "However, when executed properly, I can gain even more field than with a dual line kite, as much as 100-300 feet of field in a single jog!" I don't know why but the word jog struck me hard and so I tried jogging forward. The inverted kite glided forward as smooth as could be, without a wobble or bobble. I would have thought that the less controlled inputs from my jogging hands would have been a problem, but I think that the speed let the kite drift in front on slack lines. I made up 2-3x the ground that I have ever made before more smoothly than ever. Hope it works next time and was not just a fluke.... Life is good because there is always something left to amaze you if you just find time to be amazed. Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app

I am in. That line was on the Christmas list that no one will get for me because they would have no idea how to shop for it. [emoji3] Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app
