  1. My UPS guy knows me well...he doesn't knock so the dog doesn't wake napping kids and is careful of us when we bike (cargo bike and three kids on bikes) and always waves to us. I am glad to have him. Mine got homemade baclava at Christmas. [emoji6] Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app
  2. I am now gonna look to see is anyone's tails are wrinkled. When I find a set of wrinkled tails I am gonna go to the flyer and say "Are you Reefrunner?"[emoji6] Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app
  3. Wonder how I managed to post this under kite travel...hum. Thanks for the tips will try it. Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app
  4. Ok, been enjoying my flying and recently added two 40' tails to the mix. Love watching them fly, but hate that getting them put away at the end is 2x more time consuming than putting away the rest of the kite. I found that a pony tail holder holds them fine once I get them under control, but getting them rolled is enough to make me think twice about even getting them out. Any tried and true methods to getting tails rolled quickly and neatly? . Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app
  5. I second the recommendation to do your learning in as much good wind with other flyers as often as possible. If you have a beach use it to get through initial learning and it can cut your learning time by a big %. Not that the swirly choppy wind challenges are not good teachers, but that is a different set of challenges more easily mastered after you get the past the first learning curve. I found JBs videos on hand placement (how a properly placed hand = leading edge drive when balenced on the pointer, hover when fulcrum is shifted to middle finger, and movement in the direction of the trailing edge tips when your balance the handles on your ring finger) to be very helpful. Also, rather than thinking of turning the kite left and right, I find it much clearer to think clockwise and counter clockwise. Lastly, team flying rocks...and knowing what the team flying basic standards are can guide your practice a bit too....I had never noticed in all the videos and watching groups that the team follow me 8 was a down-turning 8. Wasn't until the first time that I stepped into line that I realized that all the 8s I had done were upwards turning (flying upwards at the outside of the loops). Basically practice everything both directions. Cheers and welcome to the flock. Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app
  6. Nice work Riff. Very visually appealing. Will ya slow down? You are making me feel bad that I haven't gotten beyond materials collection with building a sail. [emoji6] Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app
  7. Wanna post his website URL? Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app
  8. Thanks to y'all for including me. I had a great time, made a highlight in a great trip. Guess my kites though it was enough for the day though...they and the wind refused to cooperate for a night fly for my kids. Got only a wet sand covered kite for my efforts. The one time that the stars were out there was no wind.[emoji13] We did see whales at Depoe bay on Monday. We had barely parked the car before I saw a whale spouting. We watched them for hours in the bay. We also enjoyed the Estacada Timber fest on the 4th near Portland. We came home with a 2'round slice of log from that one...great fun hauling in the airport. A conversation starter for sure. It was a great trip for all. Thanks Oregon and friends. We will be back... Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app
  9. Wonderful. See ya tomorrow! Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app
  10. Awesome!!! Better than I could have hoped for...and Soooo close too. Just a clarification question...do y'all start at noon or end at noon? Back east they start early - like 8 so they can get get parking. Guessing that is not an issue here.[emoji6] Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app
  11. I am in Oregon now until Tuesday in the Rockaway beach area...anyone else out here on the coast flying quads? I am having plenty of fun solo, but if anyone wants to fly I would enjoy making new friends.[emoji3] Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app
  12. Hum, poking@esinger to see if he will share his sand anchor story from this weekend at Regallo in the OBX. His beautiful new huge bowl kite had some anchor lessons to teach. Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app
  13. Yeah...it was really odd to have him swoop in out of no where into "our" airspace. I mean he was not only a normal kite length behind us, but also quite high above us so the lines didn't go in the right direction at all when you tried to figure it out. Odd, very odd. Glad to share the sky (and the weekend) with you and your creations Rob. Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app
  14. Ok guys, somehow I got myself deleted out of the message chain where the clinic guys were talking about next weekend....can ya let me back in? I don't know what I did but I cannot find that message chain in my account inbox anymore. Just when the karma for the trip was looking good too[emoji6] Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app
  15. That kite is really pretty. I love the way the colors turned out. Is the mesh for the LE or for the vents? Nice work Riff. Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app
  16. I still think you should put kite shaped pins at the end of the dogstake lines where they head off to the right. Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app
  17. I agree with your synopsis of major contributors. There were two parts to the prize. Why not offer one part to each of them...or three years subscription to each? Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app
  18. What about putting the url in white from 12 to 5oclock on the blue...reversed so the top of the letters are at circles edge? Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app
  19. It would also be fun to put a kite pin at the end of his lines....could even extend the lines beyond the circle for this. Then you could attach whatever style you fly to the end of JBs dogstake lines. Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app
  20. That is cool. I think it might even be more readable if we could get a tiny space between the words around d the circle. The .com part could also be smaller if needed. I like the circle of the logo, and the Rocky peak makes me chuckle a little bit...where exactly is he flying?? I think that we should ask some non kiter folk what they think he is doing in the logo just to be sure that there is no odd implications to the logo that we don't see with our kite focused eyes. SUL vs Indoor

I have been thinking about making a kite or two...and the holes in my collection are SUL, mid vet, and xtr vent. So I have been contemplating how do I fill in those holes with what I make- which naturally leads to what is really meant by those terms. The "all are under 6oz" comment is interesting to me. I am guessing that there is a wieght to sail surface area ratio that must be beat for the target wind speeds. In terms of buying equipment, seems that all I should think on for. The moment is to add 50# lines to my collection. Cath recommended that I wait until I spent less time on the ground...I think I might be there now. Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app
  22. It seems like the kite line and silhouette and lines are thinner and more delicate in the old white version....and I think I liked them that way. The one question I have is the lack of representation of team.... Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app
  23. Does the line color endorse a specific line brand:) Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app

    SUL vs Indoor

So I ran a forum search and couldn't figure this out...so here I am asking for help, lots of questions but one main idea - what is an SUL really?: What is the difference between an indoor quad and an SUL? What makes an SUL different than a standard? Can I take a standard and change/tweek some stuff and end up with a SUL sail - or is the sail itself too heavy or is the sail geometry different? Is an SUL just an indoor flown outside when there is no wind?? I know that there are times when there is not enough wind to keep my standard afloat without lots of work....and that is ok. But I keep hearing about SUL but I don't know what that really means. Not looking for an equipment fix to the no wind issue, just trying to educate myself as to what the consensus is on terms.
  25. I had forgotten the right side wrong side issue. Looking forward to seeing it done. Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app
