Keep it to banter about the drawing, EH? That's more like it!!
-
mystainedskin is correct on the techniques! Try this trick - use 2 stakes, one where you start and one when you're as far back as you care to go! Try getting from the back stake to the front stake in as few climbs/falls as you can. After a while you'll be able to go farther than the front stake! Riding the brakes on the glide will make it longer and longer!

Probably would have got it tangled in the tree too!!! Ducking .........NOW! -
Someone check his meds!!! Bad form already patting yourself on the back, the RNG exacts a stiff toll for taking it lightly!! Better to curry favor, than suffer wrath: Butter it up!!

Mini leaders (extend the life of your Rev leaders)
Wayne Dowler replied to Wayne Dowler's topic in Quad Heads
I bought both the Rev I and II around 1998 - 99! Isn't it funny how things change? The B-2 is sold with 11" and the Zen is sold without any at all! Seems like everything has moved up a size from what it was way back! But there's that much newer info now! I think the idea was that shorter handles were less "twitchy" so the kite was more controllable! I used to just put my son's Rev II on my Rev I lines and handles when the wind got stiff! 150# lines with 11" handles - could you get it any calmer? Last year I stuck the II on 120' x 90# lines, it didn't seem near as fast or wild on that length/weight either! -

Most won't notice that difference in length, especially if you're just starting out! I agree the rings are kinda funky looking and they don't seem to respond as quick as the "no-snags"! Maybe something to do with the leader being attached directly to the handle? If you are really used to a certain length, then cutting the tube down is a very good option. Not sure how many of us are equipped to do that easily! PS: Stone in Shoe Bob, who came up with the mod, also doesn't do it to the tops, just bottoms! I used the modded handle for many years without any problems, the bit of added length didn't matter, as I had just got back into flying and wasn't grooved into a certain feel! Last year, I switched to handles bent to the indoor angle, as I had tried them out at WSIKF and was impressed! Got 2 sets - 13"+15", and am thinking of adding 14" to my group! Yes, they do get a bit "twitchy" in high winds, but I usually change sails first, before that happens! I love the 15" in light winds with my SUL or anytime I think the wind might die down. The 13" are my "go-to" handles, ready to use whenever it's blowing a bit! SR - a bit of info! Those 9" were originally for the Rev II, 11" came with the Rev I! I bought both in the late '90s, and that's what came in the packages! Still have them both too, modded with the anchor and screw!! -

I'd be interested in seeing that method! Used the normal mod for years and never had any issues! PIX!! -

I guess that's true if you tighten up the screw too tight! I tighten it down only til it is close, but not so tight nothing will move! But I do use no-snags now! -

Making Your Own Kite Lines (How do you do that?)
Wayne Dowler replied to Reef Runner's topic in Adjustments and Modifications
And what do you do about the dogs ? Ever had a loose dog, to innocently reek havoc on your lines? I had a new set strung, half in my garage, and half out in the driveway, one day, and out of no where, here comes the neighbor's dog. Needless to say, we had words , but I don't think the dog understood . The park I use is a "no dogs off leash" park! Kids are another story!! -
With a std and a vented, you should be covered in most winds! May I make a suggestion - get a different frame with your vented! You don't need multiples of the same frame, as all the frames interchange, so you can put different frames in the sails as winds dictate! Only thing I don't recommend is putting a 4 wrap frame in the std, too much frame to put way too much stress on the sail! Leaves you with a stretched out sail!! If the winds are strong enough to think about using it (stronger frame), switch sails instead!! Makes those sails last longer!! Added bonus - you'll love the "feel" of the vented in good winds!! Smooths out any "bumps" and gusts!! Enjoy the ride, it's only just begun!!

Making Your Own Kite Lines (How do you do that?)
Wayne Dowler replied to Reef Runner's topic in Adjustments and Modifications
I usually pick a windless day and go to my local park to make some! Take an old set out to mark my length, then make some new ones!! Got a picnic table to set up my making gear and away I go!! Takes the boredom out of a day with no flying!! -
Helps in the braking and stopping!! Eliminates the "bounce" you can get from just handle braking! Also adds just a bit of speed to the downward flight, before jamming on the brakes!! Really depends on winds, if you need to use it or not! Helps in strong winds especially!
-
You got good control? All you need!! That and good breathing!! HAHA! Once you experience it, no going back!! See a kite flying - you join in!! The "Bat Signal" calls!!

The "bling" is much nicer!!! -
Welcome!! John will give you your member # if you post in the topic "Subscriber Number", but probably after the national AKA convention!! I'd expect around Monday or so!
-
He will probably get back to you Monday, as he is in Seaside for the national convention of the AKA! Presidential duties call!!
-
Pretty much depends on your skill level - I'd suggest a middle of the group placing! That puts you up on top in a ball! I don't know of a link for commands, I learned by just joining in and learning on the fly! Had some very patient teachers that explained things well and I picked it up pretty fast! Like Reef Runner says - "It's not rocket science!!"
