  1. Barton, I have no clue what you are talking about, but I have to agree 100% with whatever you said, because without being able to understand it I can not present a viable argument against it and am therefore relegated to the depths of thought that I have become accustomed to scouring in order to find the truth and achieve Nirvana. (How's that for authentic Midwest gibberish?) Actually, probability states that if two people play as one, it will only increase their odds of winning the prize by a percentage of the total of players. If only three people were playing the odds of winning would increase from 1-in-three to 2-in-three, (from 33.3% to 66.7%). With 15 people playing, by teaming up with another player, one player's chances of winning will increase from 1-in-fifteen to 2-in-fifteen, (from 6.7% to 13.3%). Granted, it's a significant increase. Double, in fact, as you have stated, but as the number of players increases, every one's chances of winning decrease dramatically. Take the Lotto as a good example. Perhaps if the Karma item was routed by way of every other person playing so each one could check it out.....................or if each player was automatically partnered with one or two others..................Nah, let's just keep it the way it is!
  2. This post does not start with "I'm in". It starts with .....pssssst, but I added you to the players' list anyway because I'm such a nice and understanding guy, but the other guys won't like it because in decreases their odds of winning. LOL
  3. How about those of us that can't run at all??? I've done some with my SUL and Zen on 30' and 50', but all in super light wind! Motorized wheelchair.
  4. Look 2 posts up - #14 I did -- that's why i said John Denver..............I tried to quote, but it wouldn't let me for some reason, so I copied and pasted it.
  5. How about: "Some days are diamond, some days are stone. Sometimes the bad times won't leave me alone!"?? John Denver couldn't have said it better!
  6. Airbow or Synergy for me, whichever I can find first.
  7. Hi, Mark. Welcome to the forum and good luck. The actual chances of winning in the Karma are very good. I've won three times in the last year or so; just remember that if you win, you will have to offer something for the next drawing. It doesn't have to be expensive or even a kite, just something kiting related like hats, sunglasses, lines, handles, sail cloth, etc. Whatever you can afford to pass on to someone else. It's a pay-it-forward kind of deal. Hope to meet and fly with sometime soon. Any questions you have about any kind of kiting can be answered here. This is where the best in the world hang out.
  8. Don't know how I missed this when it was originally posted. And, if you get tired of flying it as a single-line, you can modify it to be a quad-line! Additional sail material sewn to bottom, and keels added to stabilize it.
  9. Red makes a bold statement in the sky. White sometimes gets lost against a light-colored background, especially if you fly it quite high. If you keep it below 250 feet it's fine. Size will make a difference also. Seven-footers disappear faster than elevens or fifteens in the lighter colors. Don't forget line and spool; depending where you buy, they may have package deals.
  10. Gomberg Kite Productions makes a variety of well-made, large and affordable deltas. Check their website.
  11. Ok, here's the the next Karma item. You will be soon be trampling and tripping over each other to get this little beauty, not to mention all the drooling. Up for grabs, if you're quick enough to catch it, is a very gently used Revolution Supersonic kite, adjusted for optimum performance by me. Might need a little more tension on the leading edge bungees, if you want it quieter. The drawing is for the kite and frame only; it does not include lines or handles (it does include the spare frame pieces that came with the kite). I usually fly my Supersonic on 80-120 foot 90# line and the 13" standard handles. To enter the drawing you must say "I'm in" as your first words. Good luck to everyone! And the participants are: 1. mtgrizzly52 2. RevRookie 3. Tmadz 4. 3wrapframe 5. Mark Sullivan 6. Brucifer 7. pickensw 8. Wayne Dowler 9. RobB 10. lmoaks 11. tkrinor 12. mystainedskin 13. Michael E. Allen 14. Fred van Curen 15. inthecloud Drawing will be by RNG the evening of the 15th of March, 2015, at a time to be determined by a post from me that states entries have ended. Standard Karma Note from the Moderators This is a Karma Drawing. The winner of the drawing is expected to pay it forward by offering their own prize for the next drawing. Please do not enter unless you are willing to offer your own prize, preferably not the prize you just won. Drawings should be open for entry approximately 2 weeks, and the next drawing should be posted as soon as possible to keep the Karma rolling. These drawings are run by and for KiteLife members. The moderating team only ensures that your drawing post contains all of the pertinent information (drawing date/time, adequate prize description, drawing rules) before approval. If you are a KiteLife member from the US or Canada, you are eligible to enter. You do not have to be a paid subscriber. Members from Canada, Alaska, and Hawaii are welcome to enter the Karma drawings provided they are willing to pay half of the Karma prize shipping cost. The method and timing of the payment will be agreed upon between the two parties after the drawing for a particular prize. Here is the link to the original Rules and Guidelines thread: http://kitelife.com/forum/topic/5426-rules-and-guidelines-please-read/ The mechanism for the drawing itself is entirely at the discretion of the person offering the prize. In the past, entry number has been determined either by order of entry or by the post number in which the member declares entry into the drawing. The drawings have been performed using the RNG method (http://www.random.org/sequences/) or by choosing the numbers out of a hat (I believe an adorable daughter did the picking in that scenario). The only requirement is that the method of selection is clearly spelled out in the drawing post. Entry into the drawings is done by STARTING a post in the drawing thread with the entry phrase chosen by the drawing host (Traditionally "I'm in", but "I LIKE" has been used as well). In order to remove any confusion or misinterpretation, only entries with posts that START with the phrase will be considered. As with all other KiteLife drawings, bantering is encouraged. This is for fun after all.
  12. Thank you all. I will be posting the next Karma giveaway now. Look for it as soon as it's ok'd.
  13. So Super Cool!!!!! Awesome!!!!! Great!!!! ...... and many more adjectives of joy!!!! Oh,boy, I can't believe it. Can't wait to play with it. Thanks, mtgrizzly52 for making this possible. My condolences to the other participants. I will spank it properly.
  14. Awesome. That's a lot of work. I don't even want to KNOW the price one of these would fetch!
  15. Also check which kites are available from them; might find one you like.
  16. Spectra kite line -- yes. Spectra fishing line -- NO! Big difference in density of the weave. You can get away with using the fishing line, but you won't like it. Most dual-line kites come with line and handles if you buy new. Eighty to one-hundred pound and eighty to one-hundred feet is fine. Making your own lines? Sleeving is not absolutely necessary, but it does reduce wear and knot slippage, and makes setup and breakdown a bit easier. High "E" guitar string as Wayne mentioned, makes pulling the Spectra through the Dacron a simple task.
  17. Look at manufacturers' catalogs on-line. Check wind range, size, how hard it pulls and adjustability for tricks and wind conditions. A Prism Zephyr for $140 as etully mentioned above is a great deal, assuming it comes with lines and straps. I had one and loved it. Whatever you buy, read the instructions and take them to the field with you. No point getting out there and not remembering how to set it for current conditions. All of the other kites he mentioned would be great too. It just depends on what you want and what strikes you as a color combo you can live with. Kites that have two stand-offs per side will give you finer adjustment capability for wind speed, although most of the adjustment is in the bridle. Do get one with an adjustable bridle. All in all, it doesn't matter what you get. If the bug bites you good you'll be getting more. Smile, have fun and don't forget to breathe.
  18. Google the following: NTK kites, HQ kites, Prism kites. Tons of dual-line kites in the $60-$100 range. That price range will give you vastly more quality and durability than what you got on Amazon. Don't get me wrong, you can have boatloads of fun with that kite, but you will probably beat it to death by mid-summer, and when things break there is no manufacturer support. Not really much in kites that can do all the tricks you may want to learn eventually until you spend about $150. Tell us a dollar amount that you want to stay under and whether you are interested in more than just zooming around the sky; it would also be good to know what average wind speed is where you intend to fly most of the time. All kites have a recommend wind range, and stop being fun when it becomes too much work to make it fly. We can recommend specific makes and models if we know what you want to get out of the kite. Also realize that kites come in different sizes; small kites are fast and squirrely and large kites are slower and precise. Some models designs pull a lot, others very little. And you thought flying a kite was simple, didn't you, mwahahaha? Anyway, welcome to the forum. You can't get more help anywhere else; got a question? Ask and you will be informed. If you can find an experienced flyer near you (click on maps at the top of the page), by all means hook up. We're a friendly bunch. Send a PM and arrange to meet. He/she will probably have a few you can try to help you choose wisely. Go to any kite festival you can get to. Talk to the flyers there.
  19. You mean: 1. Find bag? Right? 2.Take out of..............
  20. Check ! Less time walking back and forth, equals more time flying That's my procedure for setting up, exactly. When I take down, I land inverted, stake the handles (actually I then remove the handles, loop the pairs, and then stake the paired loops). I then go to the kite, disconnect the lines, loop the pairs and lay them out on the ground, side by side I then disassemble the kite, roll it up, tuck it under my arm, and then I proceed to wrap my lines, on a single winder, back to the stake. Again, saves another trip............... Ditto!
  21. Looking really good there. Now you got me thinking about getting a Fearless.
  22. I would say each dealer orders his new stock as funds allow in time for the beginning of the season. This will vary among them. Call your favorite/nearest shop and ask.
  23. Okay, I've got it now. I have done this before, but without the "lock" wraps. I understand how that is better than just wrapping back and forth. I did it for a while, but didn't like the semi-permanent impressions the strands of line put into the foam on the handles. I found them annoying as I was flying. I am back to using the winder, wrapping all four lines at once. I tire quickly nowadays, so I avoid the second trip out to the kite. I stake the handles down at the flying end and take the kite with me, still rolled up, as I unwrap the lines. Then I set up the kite and attach the lines, go back to the handles and fly.
