  1. It can be anything kite-related. Doesn't have to be a kite or equal value. It's entirely up to the winners and what they can afford to offer. Five dollars or five hundred dollars -- doesn't matter, and there is always someone who will appreciate having it. This is DEFINITELY NOT a "try-to-top-the-other-guy" thing!!!! Something simple, from the heart, will generally be more than enough. If it's useful on the kite field, let her rip!

  3. Ok, checking for new players -- none. A DRUM ROLL PLEASE! The winner is number 9 -- Congratulations, Nick Russell. Looks like beginner's luck prevails!
  4. Hi, again, Nick. Just wait and win the Sweet Emotion on the 25th. You'll love it and the price is right.
  5. Trial run, first time trying to post screen capture. No numbers generated, so don't get excited! Ok, it worked. Official drawing between 9 amd 10 pm, Central time.
  6. Ok, I haven't heard from Must86, but I have reread his post several times and it appears he wants "in", so I'm adding him to the list of players. Should he win and decline, the prize will go the next number drawn. Does that sound fair to everyone?
  7. Keep your stitches at least 2.5mm apart. If they are closer together there is a chance that you will "perforate" the fabric (like paper towels or toilet paper) and it will seperate at the seam under tension. I've made that mistake on my first attempt. Not fun when it falls apart after all the time spent designing and sewing. Post pictures of your creations once you build them. P.S. -- My avatar is the one that came apart in the air and had to be re-sewn.
  8. The RNG's first name is also Rodney!? This may or may not be good. Hmmmm......
  9. I put a very similar hole in my Prism Zephyr about two years ago. "TEDLAR" tape (see your local kite shop), large piece about 1" beyond the tear on all sides (cut it to follow the outline of the hole) applied to the back side of the sail, carefully drawing the torn edges to meet each other where they were originally. Two 1/4" strips to finish the front side. Should be invisible from 20 feet, and will make no difference in the performance of the kite. The cross spar, if it is only splintered, can be repaired with verrrrry thiiiin mylar tape (find it at your local hobby/craft shop), and turned 180 degrees so the splintered end is at the outer edge instead. The tape repair must be thin enough to go into the fitting. If the spar is tapered you have no choice but to replace it. Happens eventually to everyone; I did mine by actually doing my first tip stab a bit hard. Keep smiling, fix it, get up, brush yourself off, and get back in the saddle! P.S. -- Don't forget to breathe.
  10. Yep! I've got two, dual line kite bags, a quad line kite bag, and a single line kite bag, plus a flight box for the dual & quad linesets, spikes, straps, handles, etc, and now, there's a duffel bag, just to haul around, single line hoops, sand anchors, anchor straps, carabiners, pulleys, etc, etc, etc, just for the single line kites..................Sheesh ! Where does this stuff end? Now let's see, I think I need a flowform / ultrafoil, or something like that ! I don't have one of those and then maybe.................? Come to Illinois and fly with me, please. Monster kite bags are common in this area.
  11. Hi,Tx, and welcome to the forum. Your input is appreciated. You will find very much help here if you are new to quad lines, and many you can help if you are experienced. Hello from Illinois, and stay with us!
  12. New player, oldcaptainrusty. You are added to the list. 10 players now. Again, I wish you all the best of luck. I wish I had ten to give away! (John, you could probably help with that!) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nick, so awesome you could fly with JB. I got to watch him perform with Iquad in Milwaukee, Wi about three years ago, and fly with him very briefly in between demos. I was still very newbie at the time and was amazed. Like you said, it's an honor and a learning experience. He even honored me by flying my home-made quad for a minute. Good man, real people person, always interested in anything that flies. GBY, John. P.S. -- Received the Karma Gemini last Friday. Flew it Saturday. Bridle was out of adjustment. Had a sh__load of fun adjusting it and trying to get my head around it but the winds were being very Midwest, so I had to do the best I could from Benson's site's description. I think I've got it down, we'll see. P.S.S. -- I love the kite, this may actually get back into dual-line, even though I think it's too much work. Sorry, I should have PM'd you this, but what the heck.
  13. So, would you like to be in, or are you in? You need to state it, "I am in", if you want to play.
  14. Hi Marshall, and welcome. Your upper and lower lines lengths should be equal. The additional brake is added by moving the top lines away from the handle (furthest knot out), and/or the bottom lines nearer to the handles (closest knot in). Handle length is really only flier preference, I fly on shorties, others will tell you 15" or even longer indoor handles. It can be done with any length. Thirty to fifty feet lines are what most fliers use, any strength is fine, although 50# is better in low or zero wind. Be very careful flying around people, some people are _________ , and others just don't understand. Make sure your skills are more than adequate before you try. It's too late after you hurt someone. That Spectra line will cut like razor blade, so be very careful.
  15. Two more players -- woohoo! The count is nine, with Jynx and Nick Russell. Hi, Nick and welcome to the Rev forum. Good luck to all. I know there are more people out there who have kites they no longer use which haven't seen light in years. Why, I can name at least half a dozen in my neck of the woods alone. Come on people, let's get the Karma juices flowing!
  16. I had no idea there were only seven people in North America who don't have a Rev Supersonic! Wow, imagine.

    E-cigs ? Vaping ?

I like fishing for smallmouth bass. (This is the off-topic thread, right?)
  18. Ok, we have two new players and I've updated the first post to show everyone who's in; 7 players total now. Come on in people, the water's fine. There must be more than seven out there who would love to own a Supersonic and have a kite or something kite-related that you don't use any more. This is a direct challenge to you. Join in. It will only cost you some shipping. Think of what you gain and the good will you pass forward! You can't win if you don't play.
  19. Ok -- here I go. I like some of the kites from other countries, so I'm taking this Karma thing a little beyond the lower 48. Up for grabs (and grins) is a vintage Revolution Supersonic kite, frame and extra spars and sleeve (no lines or handles). Kite has been used but is in very good condition. Lots of life left in this kite, but it needs a little TLC and a drop of crazy glue or a few stitches near each wing tip. Drawing will be held late night on Friday 9/20/2013. Good luck to all. Note change of date of drawing, recommended by JB. Drawing date abridged in header and listing to 9/20/2013. All you need to enter: 1 - Must be a resident of planet Earth. 2 - Post a reply below with a clear "I'm in!" 3 - If you win, return the favor by putting up a prize (any value) for someone else to win. (note, I am willing to ship anywhere in North America (including Alaska, Mexico, Canada, excluding Hawaii) for this one, winner will need to specify North American shipping limits for their own drawing) Using the preferred RNG method, I'll be drawing a winner on September 20th. Numbers will be assigned in the order you announce your participation. Random Supersonic video grabbed off YouTube: Participants so far 1 bbailey 2 Joespickles 3 mystaynedskin 4 Reef Runner 5 Hasek 6 Wayne Dowler 7 lmoaks 8 Jynx 9 Nick Russell 10 oldcaptainrusty 11 Must86
  20. Wow! I actually won something. OK!!! Now somebody tell me how to post the karma I want to forward. Looking forward to giving the Gemini a try. Thank you.
  21. I'll give you odds if I buy one it won't fly anything like those!
  22. I would like to fly the Smithi to see how it compares to framed quad-lines. I see in the video that the leading edge and trailing differ. Some designs I have drafted would have the two being identical, with the air intake across the center of the sail. Another design involved an intricate series of flap valves, with intakes on both edges, which would prevent deflation during manouvres, but would also make it prohibitively expensive. I will try to find someone on this side of the Big Pond who can give me a try.
