John Barresi
We're pleased to yet again announce the next prize being given away to our most appreciated supporters, the Kitelife Subscribers... For roughly 10 cents per day they play a major role in keeping KL growing in every way. A 15' Inflatable Caterpillar by Peter Lynn, from Gomberg Kites, roughly a $400 value! The Caterpillar is a great ground bouncer! First of all, it is big – really big! The giant size from New Zealand is larger than a school bus. The ones made by GKPI are ten feet tall and fifty feel long. (Shown here.) That’s nearly the impact of a giant Octopus while still at the mid-sized price levels. Second, the Caterpillar is designed to be children/abuse tolerant. There is nothing to grab hold of! We even let kids inside to look around! You can sign up here. Odds of winning for this prize is currently 1/263, and will be drawn on July 1st, 2009! Our thanks, and the very best to you... Let the drooling begin! Jeepster
Ahh, the micro bug ... 3 feet in diameter and 15 feet long. That would look cool on the festival field. And, if an IKE member won it, I'd get to enjoy it without the fuss of setting it up, taking it down, storing it, etc.. Wonder what my new odds are? Oh, but I've got a 4 1/2 year old grandson (insert violin music here) who'd go bonkers over it! Thanks for the chance John. Cheers, Tom

browndude3649
just out of curiousity, how much does that "kite" weigh packed up?
John Barresi
Not very much, think a mid-sized parafoil... Breaks down pretty light.
Jeepster
Not very much, think a mid-sized parafoil... Breaks down pretty light. Three feet in diameter and 15 feet long with a full cover at one end and a partial cover at the other yields about 18 square yards of material ... add about 20% for the eyes, legs, etc and the total material should equal about 22 square yards. It's probably made out of 1.5 oz per square yard material ... the weight is not for a a true square yard, but close enough for an estimate ... so, that yields 33 oz. Add a little for thread, heams, rigging and it should weigh somewhere between two-and-a-half and three pounds. Okay John, how close is that? Cheers, Tom psst, the post office has a good scale ...
