I would love to try ! I've always had my eye out for one of these, too. With a (relatively) short keel like this I bet it can do flic flacs and maybe even yoyos, though it might end catastrophically.. No guts no glory!! I really wish there were more 10' kites out on the market, or even bigger, like the Thor's Hammer. I've been looking for a Thor's Hammer for years, every time I find one it either gets snatched up, or the $$$ are ridiculous. I actually passed on an orange one at one point thinking that I would find the blue one that I really wanted... haven't seen a blue one for sale since ! Bottom line, big kites are BIG fun. I also saw that Metropolis Kites was offering the 3.4m Gladiator. However the trailing edge differed somewhat from the Space Kite's Gladiator. On the other hand looking on the three different colors of the Gladiator in Metropolis Kites, the trailing edges differ there as well (though they shouldn't of course - color should not affect shape of kite). The Topas 3.0 is a little under 10 feet (yawn) but the 4.5 is about the same size as the Thor's Hammer. Something I'd really like to get my hands on... maybe not to own, but just to fly for an hour or two. It seems that our European friends are always pushing the envelope in kiting, surprising, since bigger, better, faster was what I always thought of as an American mantra. Oh, well, I give in, the Euros seem to be ahead of us in kiting innovation. That's OK, I get it... I'm one of the few crazies over here that appreciates BIG kites. Tappestry Kites made a few BIG kites, 9 & 10 footers. I'm sure if anyone was truly interested, Steve might sew you one. I'll bet money, it would knock your socks off ! I don't think that the span-width says it all. The manufacturer rates the speed higher than it's trickability for all the sizes of the Topaz that was (?) available through their web site. For a kite that is more speed/power than tricking, I'd expect that it is correspondingly shallow (short stand offs) and with nose angled backwards. There might even be a billow towards the leading edge? Also kites less than 3m (10') can make you stop yawning as well. See and listen to these Fazer XL (2.8m) and Fazer XXL (3.6m) videos (the Fazer kites are sold as speed and power kites). In the above Drachenforum page a pilot managed to do a snap stall and a flat axel and endured flying it for 1.5h. In the below videos however, there is no tricking, but instead everything looks very relaxed (tempo i.e. - not force). I wonder how much that is due to tradition among buyers, stamina of pilots (piloting a large kite) or the tricking properties of the kite. Exult Posted April 2, 2018 Report Share Posted April 2, 2018 In this video of "'Kleine' Pure von Ryll" in BFT4+ I get even more respect of the XXL version (sound on recommended): Though I know that how much a single pilot can pull is limited and a larger kite typically just means that you can't use it when it is too windy, I still can't stop me from imagining how it would be if a large Pure version would had been used in this video.
