tuning Pigtails (tuning your quad with knotted leaders)
John Barresi replied to Sub706's topic in Quad Heads
Don't forget about various degrees of stretch across all your line sets too. The only way for the knot system preferences to really hold water in discussion, is if you equalize your lines, top and bottom the same. My leaders need to be really long (13"-14"?) on a brand new set of 120' lines, but once the top lines have stretched out, I may pull back a few knots (shorten the top) to compensate.- 149 replies

In my experience and after observing countless fliers at various skill levels, I've found that the Rev 1.5 absolutely NEEDS at least a little extension on the top lines to stop the sail from spilling wind too freely (sheeting - the problem we so often see with EXP buyers (same length leaders top and bottom, too fast, difficult to control, falls out of the air). Also - aa lot of times, if you do the math on folks who use both top and bottom leaders, you'll find the difference is *still* longer on the top, even by 1", so why not just make super short leaders (top being the longer of the two)? I'd love some debate on this, just sharing my experience.- 149 replies

Mini leaders (extend the life of your Rev leaders)
John Barresi replied to Wayne Dowler's topic in Quad Heads
I think the idea here, is just that every time a leader *does* wear out at the handle point, it's easier to replace a tiny pigtail instead of tying X number of knots on a new leader and matching the length to your old one (or tying a whole new set). That being said, I burn out a leader approx every year to year and a half - just depends on how you like to be prepared. -
No worries guys, I appreciate y'all chasing off the crickets.

Karma 8/1/13 (Kite Currency and a possible bonus)
John Barresi replied to bbailey49's topic in Karma Drawings
FYI - the "mini pigtails" side topic has been split off onto it's own, feel free to carry on that discussion here: http://kitelife.com/forum/topic/5537-mini-leaders-extend-the-life-of-your-rev-leaders/ Back to the subject of Karma! -
Say hi to Fireball for me.

*snaps fingers* Ah well, it's ALL good.

Come on lady luck! No hands-on here, since an outside RNG is being used! Does smack-talking in a Karma thread reduce the actual karma? LOL

Wow, looks feather-light! Thanks!

I have to defer on banners, etc for the moment.

For outdoor use, quite possibly the Pro Dancer SUL from Skyburner. http://www.skyburner.com/pdsul.html Certainly one of the best light wind precision fliers around, although it's not much for tricks.

Would LOVE to see some video. (YouTube links render the video here)

Hi all - as I'm catching up on email, forums, Facebook, etc, I'm wondering out loud... Is there anyone out there in kite land who is hip to Wordpress (including general plugins) and has basic graphics skills that would be interested in doing some housework on the KiteLife website? Y'all know where my heart is... I'm trying to make a living doing what I love, but I really hate "pushing" anything and have real difficulty looking at the site objectively enough to place and aggregate ads or product placement on our pages, coupled with the fact I'm currently handling a ton of activity for various entities (KiteLife, AKA, iQuad, etc) - seems like there isn't enough time in the day. That being said, I do realize that more could be could be done toward making the KiteLife site a little more effective, ethically. Some things on my radar... - Mirroring magazine ads (retailers, etc) into the forum somehow. - CafePress (KL shirts, hats, etc) banners in both the forum and ezine. - Subscription prompts and info - Video tutorial plugs, re subs - And... ? These are mostly individual "short jobs" (one-time effort, minimal time investment, applied globally through plugins), and I'd obviously be involved - if you see a hole and have an itch, I encourage you to pitch me a solution via PM - easy enough to compare notes, upgrade your site account to staff, and voila - we're off and running. In short, if anyone has the necessary skills and perspective, is feeling the love and can spare 30 minutes here or there, I'd be deeply appreciative... I realize this isn't your business, but I'm hoping someone feels the quality of my sentiment - the more I can focus on producing activity, distributing information and community rallying, the deeper KL's offerings will be for everyone who has the bug. Truly - won't hurt me if this topic leaves chirping crickets (I'm blessed as it is), but I figured I'd send up the bat signal - just in case. Mad love to y'all, just cuz you're breathing and share a passion positively. Definitely not standing by! *grin* (photo by Gary Maynard of the Detroit Windjammers)

Yep! http://www.cafepress.com/kitelife Great stuff! Are there ads for this here on the site that I missed? Crap. I swear there were, must have slipped out of the plugins somehow. On the to do list, soon as I can - thanks for bringing it up.

To twist the knife - just realized, I think I might still have a used (but well kept) Benson Gemini kicking around here somewhere.

Just flowing with the good vibes y'all show in this place, only natural. Speaking of karma, click the following link if anyone is interested in a new B-Series PRO. <grin> (must be registered on this forum to view the page)

Yes sir John, 1099 is the one you'll want to win.
-
Tell you what... I'm in. If I win, I will hold the kite for a future youngster on the beach - a free "get started" gift for someone in need. Not sure what I'd put up in return yet, but I'm game.

tuning Pigtails (tuning your quad with knotted leaders)
John Barresi replied to Sub706's topic in Quad Heads
Tuning Theory I will be the most applicable to your question, but Sail Loading and Body/Posture covers what to DO with those new settings. In the correct order: You can go right through the all the videos, regardless of skill level... "Advanced" simply refers to the progression. Let us know it goes!- 149 replies
