John Barresi replied to Joespickles's topic in Karma Drawings
Joe, send me a PM on the down low... I have an pretty big collection of product images from my web site work for various manufacturers and stores, or I may know where to find it. -
Better be quick, some stores are already dumping July and stocking August.
-
Spoke with these guys back in May, look what I found in the July 2013 issue... Bit by bit, getting a little further out there.

KARMA 7/17/13 (New Kite! Pics to come)
John Barresi replied to Joespickles's topic in Karma Drawings
I'm still not in on this drawing (hoping for the next one), but I wanted to let you know this has been done - now July 17th. Good luck all! -
Aye, and not a worry - this is all for the good juju - we'll hit our groove, the Karma drawings are still "settling in".
-
Rex and I spoke briefly about this (it is his baby), no decision as of yet... My inclination is to see us focus on a one drawing at a time, but set a maximum entry period of 2 weeks. Right now, I think we're looking at a month-long drawing but there just aren't that many folks. Personally, I'd like to see the current Karma drawing moved up to mid-July.

FYI, we're currently at 349 active subscriber #'s.

We sometimes have folks ask us if it's possible for someone to have more than one active KiteLife subscription... The short answer is YES - some of our our regulars are especially keen to help our efforts (a couple folks even have three subscriptions), and every subscription counts for one entry into our prize drawings. Extra subscriptions can be obtained here - http://www.kitelife.com/add-sub/ Thanks so much, back to your regularly scheduled kite fun!

Hi all, just figured I'd post a list of sub #'s and usernames that signed up since my last post. mcclellgm - 1102 Journot - 1103 Jerry Griffin - 1104 Jeryll (2nd sub) - 1105 Konfuzion - 1106 Augustus - 1107 Obiron64 - 1108 bisonium - 1109 Cr8vgls4u (2nd sub) - 1110 Thanks all, and good luck!

Hi folks - just a quick note to let you know that we've resumed restoring past issues of KiteLife to the archive thanks to the studious volunteer efforts of David Hampton. Some of you may not know this, but KiteLife has been online since 1998 (run at that time by my late friend Mike Gillard), I took over as owner in 2003, and all told we've published over 1500 articles... Over the last 10 years, the KiteLife magazine website has been fully rebuilt three times for various reasons - but our most current version is the first time it's been database-driven, so each of the last two website versions had to be lovingly rebuilt by hand, page by page, and we hadn't yet been able to bring issues 5-18 back online for public viewing. Having met David at the Lincoln City Kite Festival a couple weeks ago, we hit it off right away and he kindly offered his help. So, back online for your reading pleasure... Issue 4 - http://www.kitelife.com/magazine-archive/old-issues/1998/issue-4-jul/ Issue 5 -http://www.kitelife.com/magazine-archive/old-issues/1998/issue-5-sep-oct/ FYI - when I browse the magazine archive, here are my three preferred methods: Browse by year from the Timeline page - http://www.kitelife.com/magazine-archive/ (this shows every KiteLife article, Kite Lines and SKQ issue from 1977 to present) (sometimes I go here, press control-F and search the whole archive by title on one page) Use the Google search box in the right sidebar of our main site, just above the article topics. (remember you can search with quotes on search terms like "team flying" for more specific results) Use the Article Topics list in the right sidebar of our main site to browse by column or general topic. Stay tuned for more, I'll try to post a note here when we do, but we're pretty consistent with our Facebook updates... http://www.facebook.com/kitelife <-- LIKE us, if you haven't already! Thanks again to David for his timely assistance (I've been a 1-man army for too long), and to all our patient readers.

Happy Independence Day all, be independent, help others be independent - encourage the dream. And be safe!!
-
Awesome Bob, thanks for posting - I hope you've gotten to fly them?

Re-reading, the SUL did a little better for me in light wind, but I still found it required a lot of attention to line tension in 3 mph or less. Conversely, a kite like the Pro Dancer or Ocius generates a lot of drive and feels sure about where it's going.
-
It's all good - we love questions here, and I especially love "new" kite minds because I get to vicariously learn all over again, over and over - keep the curiosity flowing! Turbulent wind makes flying harder with any kite, especially wide-ratio trick kites like the Silver Fox... Kites with less depth in the sail, or a steeper aspect ratio will tend to be much more stable in less than ideal conditions. You may be able to compensate a bit by raising your bridle points (nose moves away) by 1/8" to 1/2", this increases lift and makes the kite less sensitive, although it does reduce pull and pressure. Also, the Silver Fox is a heavy kite and pretty flexible (not good for generating drive)... I wasn't happy with mine in less than 4mph, and had to be both very active and on point with my inputs to keep it really going in 3mph or less... Just my own experience.

I do a few walks (sans shame) any day out with a dual line, it happens, all part of the process. It's not a bad thing, gives time to relax and replay mentally. Just like untangling lines... If you fight the situation or rush, it won't work. Ommmmmm yeah baby.
-
I will, but I've got street lines - other folks folks use it more than I. Next one maybe!
-
SUL Pro Dancer is probably one of the top five 0-2 mph fliers I've seen over the years... Not a trick kite by any stretch (1/2 axels have to be caressed), but it generates a lot of sail pressure and can be very precise, with good groundwork.

On a boat.

I'm fairly sure all EXP and SLE are now made with nylon... Poly starts with the B-Series, best quality poly (PC-31) comes in the PROs. You'll definitely want to verify that, and older stock may be different, but I seem to recall hearing that recently.

Very nice, great lighting.

I can't wait to find out.

This is awesome too, from Singapore...

Although they appear to be more or less stationary, here's some footage of Red Bull Kiteforce (2x 3 man teams) at Flugtag... http://youtu.be/Bsnt6A5Cdjk

A critical reference, IMHO. http://www.kitelife.com/old-issues/issue-81-hydrodynamics-and-kites/
