Agreed, very different animals - and I'm pretty sure both do exactly what they were designed to do, Carl Robertshaw is one of the greatest kite minds on the planet, imho.
-
I know you've only tasted the ST so far... FYI, set up of each Djinn model has rendered the "light frame + vented sail" combo moot for me and my pilots, much for the same reason I change kites half as often than I did on my B-Series and NEVER change frames anymore, for any reason. ❤️
-
I'm with @makatakam, if you already have standard and mid vent kites, a full vent is the next logical step - the Djinn VT will start up pretty solid around 9-10 mph, again, due to the careful placement of venting... Should be pretty happy up to 25-28 mph, long as it's tuned right.
-
I placed the venting in our mid vent very specifically, so as not to lose sail pressure in the wrong places, and the vents are also a bit smaller than most mid vents with the Sync Bridle working to moderate speed surges and pull, so we didn't need as much - all this means more sail in the lower end. Its still not a standard, but it's not that far off in terms of flyability, and a much bigger upper wind range. A little venting also helps absorb gusts and turbulence, but not so much as to kill your power when the wind drops out.
-
Nope, sorry!
-
This is true of most vented vs non vented kites. 👍🏻 I would offer that the wind range on the MV, VT and XT models of Djinn are probably wider on both ends than most of the comparable models from other brands except maybe a Shook Mesh or vented Polo. Last year, we had the STD, MV and VTD all flying team together in about 7 mph beach wind without any issues. The MV is a highly versatile inland kite for better than UL conditions. And, I LOVE kites, always appreciate a chance to speak with someone passionate about it, especially if they're new-ish, the questions are better. 😇
-
Ah, rounding up the quad array with a vented kite might be useful, in whatever model you find most appealing to you... Vented quads have an amazing upper range, and can generally maintain control / comfort at least 10mph over that of any dual line.
-
I'll back up what Riff said... Buy whatever new kite you find of interest within budget, but you do already have what you need to get an excellent flight experience and education - key things now are learning how to tune the kite, make sure the lines are equalized and advance your understanding of the interface, the richer techniques.
-
No bridle on a 1.5 is less than ideal for control, less cupping, less control - I just wouldn't do it, myself, except to enable easier catch and throw.
-
All good! Not really much precedent for this discussion, since all quad bridles previously have been pretty much non-adjustable. 👍🏻
-
My team will be arriving on the 25th, leaving the following Tuesday. If you know where to find us, you are MORE than welcome to chat and observe us working.

Copying from the Djinn owner's group... How do I tune the Sync Bridle on my Djinn? Always to taste, but here is some added info that may help you decide. There are 4 knots at the “limiter” (adjustment point) which make 3 clear gaps that you can move the bridle between: Easy - maximum length gives easier lift (feels lighter), reduced sensitivity, easier high wind management. Team - middle position gives balance between sharp response and “ease of go”, all Djinn are shipped on this setting as a good default. Sport - the shortest setting, sharper response and easier axels, requires more knowledge of conscious sail loading. “My Djinn feels heavy compared to my other quads” is something we hear on rare occasion and we wanted to share an insight... The nature of the Sync Bridle on the Djinn is designed to cup and hold air, the “heavy” feeling some feel is easily remedied by lengthening the adjustment knots on the bridle itself - shorter means more compression and trick ability, longer means easier tilt / change of attack angle, whereas the shorter settings are for experienced pilots who are familiar with “whump” and advanced sail loading.

It's a shame they were discontinued too, the 3rd shades were really nice. Oddly enough, I think they grey actually brought some strength to the pink/purple combo that it wouldn't have had with another purple instead.

ALMOST. 😎 Note the yellow in the green fade instead of the final grey we went with for green and purple (lacking availability of 3rd Icarex Pc-31 shade of either).

True story. Wind was about 7mph, and we had all three (ST / MV / VT) flying team together with no problems. 🥰 Taken the same day:
