Put up the Jet Speed in 15 to 20 mph 18 degrees this morning. Crashed about 20' off ground not going very fast and broke tee. Had battens bowed out. Kite didn't come with instructions so maybe assembled wrong ? Kite should be more durable then that to fly up to 38 mph I would think.

Glad TSO won the drawing. I was shuddering in fear .

When 1st starting I always looked at the center of kite. I've shifted my focus to mostly the nose. Not much success yet accept 1/2 axle. Most everything is attempt, accidental success. Working on flare, fade, pancake and turtle. Sometimes something cool happens. Thinking about looking down the spine instead of concentrating on the nose I'll have smoother inputs and less panic. Watched videos over and over. Get to flying, get excited and I forget most of it LOL. Had a neighbor stop and watch me fly this morning. Impressed the heck out of them. Not because of flying skills but because I was out in 15 to 20 mph winds 18 F temp. Then again maybe they just thought I was stupid .

Good that means I can stall pretty good.

Sent today so hopefully by Tuesday. Then the winds probably won't go below 10 till April . I'll be ready though .

I swear the dark side is full of evil emissaries spreading the word. Come fly, come fly over here too little man LOL.

Does not get any better !!

I'm thinking It's good enough to get started. Didn't want to go over $100.00 so it took awhile to find a Pfaff. Between learning to fly and sew I should be busy for the next couple days. Maybe more . Hoping ITW will let me see their work space tomorrow. If not no offense but am going to bring doughnuts.

My goodness folks it's like you all are 6 years old on Christmas Eve . LOVE IT !! Videos are great. Very mysterious.

I have always figured they did. Man I got a lot to learn. Stuff looks easy on the videos . I still panic most times in center window nose down trying to flare and most times abort.

Went out earlier with winds gusting 8 to 12. Put up the Widow for about a 1/2 hour until winds got higher. Was on 150 # 100' lines. Put it away got the Addiction. Set it up and before launch got a 24 and 28 hit. !!! Came in called Into The Wind and I am going to Boulder tomorrow to get a Jet Stream. Bought a Pfaff 1122 sewing machine yesterday to build a Faux C. Patience my donkey ! When I want to fly by golly I'm going to fly even if I have to sit on my butt getting dragged around to do it ! Need 2 high wind kites anyhow. Then I am absolutely done buying kites. RIGHT ?

Even w/o the weight the Zephyr is the easiest I have to stall. Khsidekick when the wind is right maybe we could meet at the top of Vail pass or Loveland pass and fly our PDSULs and Zephyrs. Would make for some cool pics. Up there on a sunny day 10 degrees feels warm . Don't plan on team flying though. I'd destroy everything LOL.

It's amazing the difference 20' + or - makes. Iv'e done better on the Widow ng with 100' 150# and the Nighthawk with 100' 90# line sets. As I get better I'm sure I'll gravitate towards the shorter lines. For now sure is nicer having different sets to fly on. The Addiction doesn't care !! Figured from other post that putting the Zephyr away at 12 would be wise. I've taken out upper spreaders on the Widow and Addiction. The flex scared the snot out of me.Still crashing and landing to hard. Haven't put the weight in. unless I go over 12 don't see the need yet. K&FT just called Pro Dancer on the way today . Zephyr probably won't be under 4 very often. Nice know it will though. Asked Marieanne about 4 mm upper and 2 pt lower for Zephyr. Advice was keep it as designed so I will. Funny how we the consumer always try to tweak perfectly good designs and are not that successful. Sure is fun though.

I am now banging out the chords to Runaway LOL.

Really starting to like the Zephyr. Went up late morning in 4 plus for a couple hours. Very smooth and methodical in it's movement. Able to see things a little better than my other kites due to the lower wind and slower speed. Winds started hitting 12 so I took a break. Came back out with the Addiction and 1/2 hour later winds not over 4. Put the Zephyr back up on 80 lb 65 ft lines and was able to fly pretty well. I've got a Extech 45158 wind meter and I think it's a pretty good one so the low wind speeds should be pretty accurate. On the 90 lb 100 ft kite starts coming down below 4. The 50 lb 50 ft seemed to short for the kite size and my skill set. Left the spreader in and was still able to keep the kite going in 2 to 4. 1 and down it comes. Still had to wait for 3 to 4 puffs to launch. Came away believing 65 ft 50 lb lines, lighter spreaders and good flying skills the kite really will fly in 1 mph. Just not for long. Tricking below 4 ? I'll let ya know in a year when I know how to trick . P.S I can't run very well yet but a year from now bet ya I can do that too.

Only thing I could find remotely related was ITW Wisp .

The Dark Side is whispering softly in my ear. Very scary .

A lot of folks have started on the Quantum. What Makatakam said echos everything I've read on the kite. For around the price of a Quantum you can get a tough beginner kite and a good intermediate one. Beginner kites under $40.00 Hq Bebop, Flying Wings Rock On, Premier Osprey and others. Intermediate/advanced under $100.00 Premiers Wolf ng, Addiction, Flying Wings 2.3 Silver Fox, Acrobatix, Insync, New Techs, Paladin. Shop around be patient and learn as much about different kites as you can. The deals are out there. Not knocking Prism kites at all Have 3 . Just showing you more bang for the buck. The most frustrating thing so far for me is low wind flying. That's why I have a Prism Zephyr and a Skyburner PDSUL on the way. Did I advise patience? Maybe I should shut up and follow my own advice LOL.

Nice to see another noob posting besides Justin and myself. I started on a Widow ng which is a little pricey but I was hooked from the start. Take Exults advice to heart. Out today on my new Prism Zephyr and got a 1/16 inch tear in the sail. Less than 3 hours on kite sigh. Little nylon repair tape on the back and you have to get right up close to see it. If your not sure you want to get into the advanced tricks yet I suggest the Flying Wings Rock On. It's supposed to be tough and has a roll cage type frame to help relaunch when crashed. Bell Chu a top notch flyer/designer in China wife and kids do a great demo on you tube. Around $30.00. Less at Fun With Wind I think. I've got a prism snapshot 1.4 foil which is fast and a lot of fun. Most of the time it will self launch too. Yesterday in 20 to 25 winds got away from me and went about a 1/4 mile away. At least I got mine back. That might be the longest walk of shame ever. If you want to get close to the $100.00 mark the Premier Addiction is great. My Grand kids and I have had a blast on that kite. It will trick really well and is very tough. Started looking at stunt kites 3 months ago. I now have 9 different kites.Only wanted 1 but the more you learn and fly you'll understand the many different reasons for having more than 1. Plus it's fun fun fun !!!

Guy across the road comes across my front yard to land his plane. 240' lines might scare the hell out of him . Might think it's my pet Condor and call animal control. I gotta a few birds. Jester the Contester. I like that.
-
If you need the kite high altitude crash tested I'll pay for shipping both ways.
-
Thanks yes it does. Only have 2 adjusting knots. Thought something wasn't right. Didn't get over 4 mph yesterday and while messing with bridal pretty sure I undid forward knots. Don't remember how or why LOL.

Yay Mike !!!

Could some one post a pic or 2 of the Zephyr bridle please. Think I jacked mine up. Thanks
