I'll hold you to it John. I won't worry so much about supervision if you want to try the M. And I'll try not to worry you too much if I get the chance Dean

I've been saying it, but NO ONE wants to believe it's a conspiracy. Dean

I'm thinking I might be able to make it to Lincoln City after all and WILL be in Brookings. Was a little disappointed to hear about the lack of room for flying though. Gary said he'd let me fly his Gull's. Anyone else want to let me fly thier kites? John? Dean

I've been to both Level One and the Skyburner site and Level One doesn't list the My One. Is this a kite they have discontinued? Can't find it anywhere, not even a picture of it. Dean

Moving above your factory light wind setting is probably the problem. Once you learn with the kite laid back it's easier to adjust to when you pull the nose in. At least it was for me. I've had less than 5mph winds lately and have had to pull the nose in for lift. But I noticed tonight that with the nose pulled in for lighter wind I had to move forword more and give a lighter tug to get the back spin. Seems like by moving in more, when I gave the lighter tug there was enough slack that the tug pulled the nose down flat but it didn't want to roll over. If I didn't move forward enough then I got the roll out so I flipped my hands out as it rolled and put the kite in the turtle. Now if I could just keep the kite from loseing altitude so quick on its back I'd be able to do more than one rung of the Jacobs Ladder If I remember right you started trickin with flic flaks, so I know you'll get it pretty quick. I'll start waving the sign again, maybe RxBurner will sacrifice something small and you could start getting back into the good with the wind goddess and we'd all be cool. Dean

As soon as I get a job (here real soon hopefully) I'll be doing some impulse buying. LOL I can't wait to spend some money. I've almost forgotten what thats like. Dean
-
I'm not 100% consistant with the back spin, but the one thing that made a difference for me anyway was to lay the kite back on the bridle. For me the kite lays flatter in the fade. Then it's just a step forward with a pull at the same time. Now that I'm getting a little more consistant with it I'm moving the bridle setting back to where I'd normally fly it at and I'm able to adjust. Something to consider. Dean

I'd like to know what kites out there are totally trickable, that have 6" or less for pushing or pulling or both at the same time to say axle. Also, 7' or bigger is the size I'm looking for. I'm not kidding about the amount of inputed effort needed to make the kite do an axle say from a snap stall. Nose strait up. Just curious. Also, what wind speeds about are you able to make the small inputs to get the effect from. About anyway. Full 8' wings are a bit too much for my personal strength at the moment. Need to go smaller, but not smaller than 7'. Guess I'm looking for a precise kite under the same requirments too. 90 degree angles in less than 6" of input. Reason I ask is that I fly my fathers and my MEFM (which are 8' 4") and I used to be able to axle, cascade, flic flak, flat spin, tip stab, lazy susan, and ground work plus other tricks and flying dual kites takes strength. Something I need to build up again. I can still fly dual kites. It's just the trickin side of it takes more of a quick pop while stepping forward than I can physically perform at the moment. With longer handles my Box of Tricks (Benson Kites) would do it. It's just not precise enough. Takes a big and quick input to turn a 90. Thanks for the thought and input, Dean

And to all those that own each of these kites, I'd like to hear some opinions on the kites. Maybe like something you were having problems with or took alot of effort with another kite and making the switch to a Sky Sport or R-Sky made what ever it was easier or possible. And if anyone with a Sky Sport (RxBurner), how long is the wait in having the Sea Devil or Fearless made to order? My mind isn't entirely made up yet between Sky Sport or R-Sky. I'm sure it'll be one of the two. Since I probably won't have the oppurtunity to fly either or before I buy one all I have to make up my mind is the input in this forum and the videos online. So far R-Sky seems to have more videos that are really impressive. One thing that is a consideration on the topic of which one, is that I prefer to fly the line. By that I mean for instance, Sky Sport I would probably want to have the V.I.P. for indoors, Fearless for light wind, Sea Devil Std. and the Vented Sea Devil or Fearless. Thats just the way I've always been. Hope ya all don't mind braggin' about your kites Dean

Thats good to hear. LMFAO, I broke the spine at the center T fitting on my Illusion today with less than 5mph winds. Not sure how it happened, as there was absolutly no wear on the spine at all. All I did was a cartwheel onto a tip stand and the sail looked funny so I set it down and went to look and well.... the spin was broke. I haven't spent less that 300 on any kite I own except for the Prism Ion I started with. I'm going to buy a new kite. But since I buy kites that'll grow with me it won't be cheap. I like the Sky Sport line, but I like the R-Sky line too. Wait for one to be made, or buy one when I get the dollars. Damned if I do, damned if I don't. Feels like one of those things. Seeing Mr. Haoc, John B. and Tristan flying the Sky Sport kites intrigues me to think I could do that. But after seeing Randy G. and Mr. Debray flying the R-Sky's I really think those could be the kites to make me look better than I am too. LOL, I'll just have to wait till I get the dollars and decide if I want to wait or not. Dean

I was just watching a video on YouTube. Yuki&Suki I think was the name. They were flying the R-Sky Nirvana's. Toward the end, one or the other breaks a lower spreader right next to the outer most stand off. I'm wondering if this is common? I am just absolutly smittin with the Nirvana and the Next. So I was wondering if it might be a good idea to put at least a single wrap of the packing tape with the strings in it around where the stand off holders are? If nothing else, when or if the rod does break at the fitting the tape should hold the rod. Maybe it would be less of a worry about punching a rod through the sail? Noticed that alot of the kites nowwa days seem to have a little more tension on the lower spreaders. That probably causes a break to move away from the sail, or not? Just curious, I don't have to worry about such things with the MEFM as there is NO pressure on the lower spreaders even if you are extremly aggressive. Light or high wind. Dean P.S. Mr. Greenway's videos have inspired me to find a way come hell or high water to buy either the Nirvana or the Next. So heads up, not that you'll probably ever meet my wife, but I'm probably going to blame it on an impulse buy because of what the guy does in his videos.

Useful tips for flying high end kites
Dean750 replied to Dean750's topic in Adjustments and Modifications
I've been flying the M for so long now that I rarely get the tail to wrap. I've learned over the years how to get out of just about all wraps. As far as Yo Yo's and other wrap tricks, the problem is the lines slide down to the tips. I can unwrap the tips once on the ground without walking to the kite. I'll post some pictures of my current M when I can. This is the kite I will experiment with. You'll see why when you see the pics. I'm sure no one else owns a M in this condition. Flown the piss out of it I have. I just need to know where to put the stoppers on the leading edge. The cage if I decide to go that way, will come with the new sail. I was thinking of pockets over the stand off holders on the sail connected to the Yo Yo stoppers. One snag that frustrates me now a days is snaging the nose webbing. I hope that'll be snag proof on the new one. The line to keep from wrapping the tail and keep the bridle out of the bow string as I remember it is just like the standard Atomic Wedgee bridle set up. I'll post a picture of that too when I take some. Dean -
One thing to consider is the fact that we're yakin bout dual to quad line. Any quad can be tuned to keep up with the others. Dual line MAY be a different story. Smaller kites are generally faster than the bigger, but given longer or heavier lines they don't generally turn or fly as well as a bigger sail. I may be wrong here, but I think bigger and smaller might be a difference maker when it comes to dual line. But you know, it's obviously a money maker. If IQuad can do it with quads then why can't we do it with duals. Dean

BEST FREESTYLIN'$$$ BANG FOR THE BUCK SPORT-KITE
Dean750 replied to Shultzie's topic in Trick Flying
Wish you all would come to Albany Oregon. I'd tell ya if it was worth while for ya. Maybe that could be a job for me. PROFFESIONAL KITE TESTER, Just a thought. Dean -
So what about the Dean fund? Is someone out there working on this. I know your all rich compared to me. I can fly two kites at once and trick (very little in todays standards), I can weind lines, pack kites, hand out buisness cards, tutor on old school stuff, teach a person how to be gental and full of finesse and help people tune thier kites to thier needs. Useful tips for flying high end kites
Dean750 replied to Dean750's topic in Adjustments and Modifications
I'm just looking to stick with the MEFM. If I could get one I'd love to have the MEFM Maxi to match my fathers. Maybe a second Atomic Wedgee too. Course I'd like to have a vented M too though. I just need to win the lottery or something. I think between my Weldon Aerolabs Synchro (Avia Sport), MEFM, MEFM Atomic Wedgee, Prism Illusion (pre 2000) and Fizz Kites Box of Tricks I'm about covered for just about any kind of dual line flying at the moment. After I get my skills back I'll look at other kites. But for now a new sail for my MEFM is all thats needed at the moment. I'm just worried how much it's going to cost. LOL Dean -
I think that if two people flying multiple kites together, they'd be looking more at the team compfigs. That would give a person even more figs to practice. I know that when I get to Brookings, I'm gonna have to fly at some point. I can't go and not fly. lol Dean
-
Another question is.... Are you going to be able to make it to Brookings this year Tony? If so, maybe the 3 of us could fly together. Basic follow the leader, nothing real hard unless we 3 click. Anything is possible. Specially if Gary has 6 of each. The 8.5 and the 7.0??????? Theres a thought. Dean Sorry Gary

Hey Tony, Just curious since you mentioned wraps. Have you attempted refueling yet? As for wraps, after watching you fly I wouldn't worry about putting wraps in the lines. Your kites don't look like they are struggling to fly. If your worried about it, walk back as the kites are going up during the wrap and forwords as they go down. Speed control in my opinion will not only make your angles and round moves easier and prettier, but it'll help you in the stamina department. Also, if you attempt your first wraps as I did (refueling) you'll get over the wrap fear a little quicker. The lead kite does just that and leads the follower. Might want to have the second kite on slightly shorter lines though. 5 feet difference is a good number. That way your lines don't really change the flight charicteristics (sorry for the typo) of either kite. Other wise your going to have one hand fully extended and one at your hip or behind you. Just a tip. Dean

Useful tips for flying high end kites
Dean750 replied to Dean750's topic in Adjustments and Modifications
I have been in contact with Warren. Now if I can come up with the dollars I'll be able to get my sails. I gotta send mine over to make sure it's exact, so I'm sending the one above my name on my posts. It's a one of a kind that'll hopefully end up being a 3 of a kind for my father and I only. Barresi, your still my inspiration. If I hadn't had my forced lay off I might be rubbin' elbows with you kiting now a days The M is still in my opinion the best dual line kite ever thought of. I'm no slouch when it comes to trickin with the M. So I'd love to see and learn from someone who can do wrap up tricks without Yo Yo stoppers on the MEFM. Training wheels or not, I'd like to have them. As soon as I get the 3 rods I need to get my fathers M going I'll be back to flying dual M's. It is an art not many do anymore. Multiple kites period. 2 is my limit for now. But as soon as I decide if I can still trick a kite one handed or not, maybe I'll bump up to 3 kites. If I can still trick I'll be a fairly unique pilot. It's something to shoot for anyway. Maybe if I get good enough I could get a sponsership. At least 50% of my kites. MEFM's of course. That would be helpful since when I bought my original Ray Bordlon M it was $265. Now it's $475 and I even have the custom clamshell fittings. I don't want to give up the kite I started on and made so much progress on and after 8 years am relearning at a warp speed on. Ya know what I mean? Dean -
Pg. 2 is my first response. Dean

A question just came to mind, when turning angles, do you two push or pull turn? Just curious, cause I pull on round turns and push on the angles. Pushing allows the kite to do most of the work saving you from fatigue? Just curious. I also, except for light wind step forward on angle turns. Again, it releases some of the pull and makes the turn a little easier to control. Less over steer. Sorry, I'm sure you guys already know this. I'm a bit of a perfectionist with a problem sometimes of being overly competitive. Dean

If flying multiple kites were easy EVERYONE would be doing it. Most who try it fly round most of the time. Flying two kites seprate from each other is a real test of skill, in not just attention but reaction. 3 kites almost seems insane. Anyone that can turn a 90 degree angle or more with the hips or chest is really getting into what they are doing. I hope to try it some day. For now, I want to be able to make myself feel really good just flying 2 kites at once. Flying the compfigs with the kites together I think I'll get back to pretty quick. Mirroring I'm hoping comes back soon. I tried flying 2 OLD Prism Ions a couple of weeks ago. I never flew the two when I could and did fly dual kites. Don't know why I even tried Way to fast, don't turn real tight, and if they do you over did the control and they flop. I did manage to not run one kite through with the other on the flop I was on 150# line in about 12 mph winds. Thats the wrong set up for flying one, let alone the wrong set up for the first attempt returning to 2 I can't wait to get back to it, hope to see MORE vids from the both of you. You have both stoked my drive. Thank you. Dean
-
Thats a cool video TonyCarl, wish I had a camera. Posting a vid would be so much easier than figuring out how to explain things. When I get my fathers M fixed I'll be working on these... http://www.aka.kite.org/?iskrb_compfigs.html I've watched a few of Ray Bethal, Gary MacEachern and others and have tried to compare my flying style to thiers. I seem to fly a little more square than what I've seen so far. Flying 3 kites seems to me like it would be REALLY hard to follow the compfigs from above. But 2 kites I don't think would be as hard. Keeping the kites together when flying isn't as difficult as say having each kite in different areas of the window mirroring each other. By mirroring I mean the same but oppisite. I hope that comes out the way I meant it. Flying that way in a team would only drive the difficulty level up a little. I'd like to give it a shot once I get a little practice. Dean

Gary, I would love to try your Gull's out. They're so pretty. My MEFM is old school. But I'm learning that some tricks take a little more input compared to newer trick kites. As for the dual kite trickin. I have been playing around a little and have noticed, 1, I don't have the wrist movment anymore, 2, my physical strength isn't what it was when I was flying before my car accident. And my Rev handles aren't anywhere near long enough. I'll get back to you on the throw thing. I'm laid too far back on the bridle settings right now to really say. It may be that I can only do my thing in very light winds. Like I said before, I'm a 0 to 6 mph flier before the accident. Lately all I've had here is 10 to 15 mph winds. So I'm learning to trick in higher winds. I have ALWAYS been a precise pilot. And I've noticed in watching live or on video that multiple kite flyers really don't fly angles. Am I correct on that? Just curious, because I know a person could fly 2 kites and compete at the world level of compition in the pairs class. For that matter, 2 or 3 people could come together and compete in team flying at the world class level. Just a thought that I think alot about. Dean P.S. I don't know if I'll have the gas money to make it to Lincoln City :confused!: But I can tell you I WILL be in Brookings.
