  1. Seeing these big wings makes me wanna rob my father of his MEFM Maxi. It's only 11 feet across, but fun. 0.5 to 18 mph wind range. At 10 mph it's pulling me across the field against my will. Dean
  2. Being's your on a beach, I'll assume you don't have a lack of wind. No one's mentioned it yet, but a Revolution B-Series Vented would also be a great kite. Not speaking of price cause I don't know what you can spend, but it's a kite that gives the pilot complete and total control. Hit Mr. Barresi up on it. He'll let you know all you need and want to know as a beginner. I read of people flying on a regular basis of 20+ mph winds weighing about 100 lbs them selves that love it. Dean

    What goes with me everytime

The minimum kites I take everytime I go fly
  4. WELL HOW'D IT GO? Dean
  5. That is the key in flying a dual line kite as a quad line is attaching your lines to the 4 points where the spreaders attach. The length of the loops top and bottom is how you'll tune in more or less brake. (ability to fly back wards) I never got past just the 4 pigtails because my kited never tried folding in half. Let me know how it works. Dean BTW, if I remember correctly, if you are having trouble flying in reverse or even dive stops it's more than likely that the top loops need to be longer. With your handles in the nuetral position, the kite should be standing up and the nose should be slightly layed back from the handles.
  6. good starting point is to make a 3" pig tail to larks head around the existing bridel at the top spreader. the knot closest to the center of the kite. Same with the lower spreader connection. But make those about 1.5". Add a quarter inch on all of the loops to count for the larks head around the bridle line. Try it in light wind if you can. See how much the frame as a whole flex's and where. This is going to be a trial and error thing. It should take quite a bit to break anything with the Beaman rods. So there is some tolerance here. When you find how long the pig tails need to be ( maybe longer with incrimented knots ) then You add a knot just to the inside closest to the upper and lower connection and larks head a line between the two. Keeping a very slight amount of slack when tow points are pulled taught. If you notice the kite wants to flex like it wants to fold in half you might try going from the center T to the middle of the line between the upper and lower spreader. I have tried going quad on my Prism Ions, Benson Kites Box of Tricks and my moms Allegro. It's cool, but I bet you just end up skipping it in the end and buy a Rev. Something about a dual line kite flying backwards just doesn't seem right You'll see what I mean. Dean And yes, Rev handles will work. You may need upper and lower pig tails incrementally knotted on the handles to tune it in though.

  8. Dude, they are awsome. It helps give me a direction to where I want to be someday. Indoors and out. Keep it up. Dean
  9. Can't wait to see it. Wish I was there. Maybe I'd of had the chance to make at least one butt pucker. Even squeak Dean
  10. GREAT VID WATTY!!!!!!!!! I wanna call ya a Turd for being so gracful. But I won't. Turd I really hope one of these days I'll be able to meet up and fly with you and John B. Hope this doesn't offend him (Mr. B ) but you Mr. Spence are a really good inspiration in all aspects of Rev flying. Even though your a turd for being able to exhibit control and provide pics and vids of flying while on vacation. Something Mr. B can't do, since when he travels to fly, it sounds like it's his job. Keep the vids coming, I watch'em all and enjoy every minute of it. Dean
  11. My Prism Ions simply suck for flying dual kites. I tried that yesterday. Took about 5 minutes to realize that even with enough wind to fly one, they suck trying to fly two. A little too touchy and they don't seem to wanna turn tight enough. Think I'll give'em another whirl, but will undo the Radical nose line. Dean
  12. welcome to my world (but on 1.5 vented!) flying with more brake on these days but the wind can still drag me around sometimes featherweight, Ya know, for me anyway, I fly my Rev in high wind like I do in low wind. Meaning I start letting the brakes out to get more leading edge forward. I know it's wrong, but it adds lift in low wind and dumps the wind out the back in high wind. Either way I still seem to have enough brake. I'm goofy I know but so far it works. Guess I have to work with more brake to see what it does. Tried it yesterday in 20+ and it seemed to increase pull and decrease my ability do dump wind. Maybe I had too much brake? The lower tips of my handles were up over the top lines at times to get the kite to go forward. I'll have to get pics of my handle tuning. Dean
  13. My bad on the 7 wrap thing. I was wrong. It is the stiffest rod I've ever seen though. Holding the ends of the rod I can't really flex it it's so stiff. Or maybe I'm just a whoos. In thinking about it, not only is there not much flex on the rod in flight, but there wasn't much flex when I used to fly mine and my fathers stacked in 15 to 20 mph wind. Or I could just be tarded on the whole thing I've owned the kite for a long time, and flown it maybe 15 times. If that. Dean

    My Rev 1

    From the album: Just tryin

  15. Yes it does say Revolution Equipped on the rod. And I apologize. When I bought the kite I was told it was a 7 wrap Rino rod. Even in 20+ (with the bridel on) theres not much flex on the leading edge. And having hit more than one drift log at speed, I haven't broke a rod yet. My bad. I've only flown one time on 90# line and it was only 50' or so. and that was in 7mph or less and it was real light. Top hand needed to be pulled in about a foot or so for even horizontal flight. I just assumed that what I was told was what it was. And thought that with the lighter, shorter lines flying the way it was proved it has HEAVY rods. Hey, what can I say, I thought I knew what I was yakin about. But I love you too John Thanks for setting me strait. So will it fly better on 80' lines better than it did on 50 footers? Dumb question I know. Dean
  16. I haven't really been flying my Rev alot until lately. Mostly lighter than 7mph with 150# 100' lines and the stock 7 wrap rods. So it fly's real light. Fine by me for the most part most of the time. But I was real smart and put it up in 20+ today. Didn't matter how much brake I gave or took away, it was a truck. A drag truck that is. won't be that tarded again. Amazing what a refresher fly can remind you of. Whoops, ohhhhh s#*@, woo hoo, uh oh, LOOK OUT!!!, that was cool, damn this pulls a little I really don't think they had 20+mph in mind when they built these early Rev 1's. Dean
  17. I'll take what I can get Dean
  18. Since it's so close to the time I should get my stimulas check I'm in. Dean
  19. Guess I'll have to watch the video of the Shiva in I think it was Brookings. Thanks for the input. Much appriciated. Dean
