  1. As much as we all love to fly, family comes first. Take care of them, there will be plenty of time to fly later. Hopes and prayers for everyone to be home safe, healthy and happy very soon!
  2. to the annoyance of any person; .... Heck, people annoy me all the time over all kinds of stuff, I've never felt the need of having to pass a law or an act to "protect" me. What a silly world and times we live in.
  3. They look fantastic! Please keep posting pictures as you progress, and a video of the completed project in flight would be great!
  4. Oh, I have and love my quads too, but I'm still partial to flailing around on my duals. And while I'm only going to be 57 at the end of March, I was always told it's the mileage not the age that makes the difference. I was rode hard and put away wet for a long time! If I could just get someone to put some grease fittings on my knees and ankles...
  5. Okay, so I'm not the only one! Ordered a custom Mirage stack awhile back. And while I'm not forced to stare at them without flying them (yet!) the waiting sucks still! Rob, I'd love to fly in the winter! But the legs don't work so well even in warm weather, even less in the cold. I'm a fair weather flyer and a cold weather wannabe flyer!
  6. I haven't seen or experienced them yet, so can't give an informed opinion. They look cool though! And I like that Prism finally updated their website.
  7. #1 and #5 from the first options, leaning towards #5.
  8. Been sick and fell asleep, so ran a couple of extra hours. But finally, the winner is... 7 Tried to copy the random number generator box, but it eluded my simple abilities on the web. Szobelda, CONGRATS! Send me a PM with your information and I'll get your new kite out to you tomorrow.
  9. Planning on drawing around 6pm EST, so it's not too late for you stragglers to get in! Tick... Tock... Tick... Tock...
  10. Let's keep the karma flowing! Up next is a lightly used Silver Fox Pro standard dual line kite. Kite is complete with sleeve and in nearly new condition. Reply with an "I'm in!" for entry, random number generator will pick the winner from the list in order of reply. In so far: @SS Kites @Paramedic @Stardragon @reefaddicted @Mikelp3586 @Mike Klaiber @szobelda @cerfvoliste @drdemonx Standard Karma Note from the Moderators This is a Karma Drawing. The winner of the drawing is expected to pay it forward by offering their own prize for the next drawing. Please do not enter unless you are willing to offer your own prize, preferably not the prize you just won. Drawings should be open for entry approximately 2 weeks, and the next drawing should be posted as soon as possible to keep the Karma rolling. These drawings are run by and for KiteLife forum members and DO NOT require a paid subscription to enter. The moderating team only ensures that your drawing post contains all of the pertinent information (drawing date/time, adequate prize description, drawing rules) before approval. If you are a KiteLife forum member from the US or Canada, you are eligible to enter. You do not have to be a paid subscriber. Members from Canada, Alaska, and Hawaii are welcome to enter the Karma drawings provided they are willing to pay half of the Karma prize shipping cost. The method and timing of the payment will be agreed upon between the two parties after the drawing for a particular prize. Here is the link to the original Rules and Guidelines thread: http://kitelife.com/forum/topic/5426-rules-and-guidelines-please-read/ The mechanism for the drawing itself is entirely at the discretion of the person offering the prize. In the past, entry number has been determined either by order of entry or by the post number in which the member declares entry into the drawing. The drawings have been performed using the RNG method (http://www.random.org/sequences/) or by choosing the numbers out of a hat (I believe an adorable daughter did the picking in that scenario). The only requirement is that the method of selection is clearly spelled out in the drawing post. Entry into the drawings is done by STARTING a post in the drawing thread with the entry phrase chosen by the drawing host (Traditionally "I'm in", but "I LIKE" has been used as well). In order to remove any confusion or misinterpretation, only entries with posts that START with the phrase will be considered. As with all other KiteLife drawings, bantering is encouraged. This is for fun after all.
  11. Woohoo! Thanks everyone for the congrats and especially for Zach for the awesome karma drawing! Now to sort through my stuff for a drawing, hmmmm.......
  12. Not sure on the color coding, but the lines with the red flecked sleeving looks to be the thicker of the two sets. At least from my perspective in the picture. You should definitely be able to feel and tell the difference.
  13. Peter Powell tube tails? Lightweight, can make them any length you want, easy to attach with a spot of velcro. https://shop.peterpowellstunterkites.com/product/individual-streamers/
  14. Looks awesome, can't wait to see it in person.
  15. That was last year's Carolina Kite Fest in Atlantic Beach, NC, put on by the good folks at Kites Unlimited & Bird Stuff. This year's Kite Fest is October 29 - 30 at the same location as this Google map picture, the Sands Villa Resort in Atlantic Beach. I'll be there, hope to see some of you others too!
  16. Welcome! I've never ventured "out west" to fly with them, but I've flown with some of the members of a kite club from around the Charlotte area when they came to the Outer Banks. Nice folks and great kiters. They're known as W.A.C.K.O.S, or Wings Across Carolina Kiting and Okra Society. Website is http://www.wackos.org/
  17. Oh, was that a couple of stacks of Warbirds/Mirages I saw flying around? Gorgeous! Thanks for posting the pictures, look forward to many more.
  18. If you want to have a set of 120's ready and waiting for you this weekend, I'd suggest you call Don and find out if he has a set ready. Have him hold them for you if he does have them, or get him to make them for you and have them ready to go for once you arrive. Great folks and they make great line sets! https://www.facebook.com/Kites-Unlimited-BirdStuff-etc-82661657778/ http://kitesandbirds.com/
  19. Riffclown and Lynn, anytime either or both of you want to get together and fly sometime let me know when and where. I work in Suffolk and spend quite a bit of time in the area. Kites are always with me!
  20. PLEASE don't worry about being a beginner! Will you be a quad flying master after one weekend? No, but you WILL be a better flyer. You'll pick up things that you don't know you've picked up until later when something clicks and you go, "Oh, THAT'S what he was talking about! NOW I get it!" and then you'll progress by leaps and bounds. Just be a sponge, soak up all the great experience and knowledge, try to not get frustrated with yourself and most importantly, have FUN! Really want to go, grumblegrumblegrumble...
  21. I have standard JB 1.5 and Shook mesh. Was about to pull the trigger on a JB Pro when all the hullabaloo went down. A Phoenix Pro is on order. I've seen the Freilein before at a distance, put my hands on one for the first time a month or so ago. Materials and build quality looks surprisingly good but no experience flying one yet. Soon. The future of quads looks just fine, even with what's going on with Rev.
  22. Experience, time, learning from mistakes are all great teachers. Teaching someone else what you can do well, will move your own learning by leaps and bounds. By that metric alone John is a Grand Master.
  23. Congrats Rob! You winning it makes it almost seem like a karma drawing. Thanks for all your great advice on this and other sites, and for your great videos!
  24. Wish I could join you all again this year but unfortunately I'll be stuck at work. Marshall, Mark and Ed from last year I recognize on the list, any others? Hope you have great weather and all learn a lot and most importantly, have a good time.
