Just a though for no or low wind kites
SparkieRob replied to DeafThunder's topic in Adjustments and Modifications
Or, like kite surfing, have an inflatable frame. Wouldn't take much to use a party ballon tank of helium... JB, hook line and stinker! Lol. Funny thing though, this is how lots of new products are first conceived. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Should really list some in my OWN country that I want to go to... Redclife Kite Festival, Bondi Festival of the Winds. Ironically, kite flying is prohibited the entire year except for the festival!

Just a though for no or low wind kites
SparkieRob replied to DeafThunder's topic in Adjustments and Modifications
About 10 years ago I saw some engineers making very thin rods with a construction like bird bones. The internal 3D lattice kept them stiff and very light. It wouldn't be much of a stretch to do that in a Hydrogen/Helium atmosphere to trap the gas in the pockets. -

Just been thinking about this. The gas inside will make it weigh less but won't change its mass.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

As cool as that sounds I don't think I would like it. I throw my kites around quite vigorously so having the mass is good for me. I have seen some balloon kites that are used for lifting. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Just going to BUMP this and say to the folks that have just joined, a subscription gets you automatic entry into these drawings. That and the kick arse tutorials! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I got a few sets when I found out that they were available. For me, I am 2/3's the way of them anyway. I got to buy the line and ship it to Australia. Then knotting the first one is easy, matching it isn't as simple. I have made a few sets from old bridle line but TK's are much more uniform than mine were. Not only left/right were they uniform but also the spacing between each knot. I can't see myself making my own again, only if TK isn't making them again. Thanks TK and JB, very happy with mine. Plus, I can now say "I fly on JB's brake settings"... Lol. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Kind of building my own festival out of necessity too. Not a thing here on the west side of Oz. I'll know when I've done it, I'll have my own Peter Lynn octopus!

Always a good thing to have goals.

Do you have a festival that you want to attend? The size difference was a factor, World is just too big. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Reason I ask is we are planning a US Tour as a family holiday. Not going everywhere the first time. Most likely West Coast due to Disney Land is that side. Which puts the festivals that side a little higher. HOWEVER, as we will be leaving Oz to get to the US that doesn't mean th East coast is out. My wife likes NYC for Christmas too! Then there is the Europe trip... The Asian trip... I'll upfront and say WSIKF is a high priority to attend. It looks hugely popular and hugely attended. And goes for a week which fits a tourist travel very well.

Simple question. What kite festivals are on your list to attend? Are you going to just watch or fly? Even compete? SLK's, stunters, quads, freestyle, precision or a little of everything? Do you piggy back festivals that are close both geographically and time wise?

Green house means that's your "home point". Others will see you as a red person. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

And the green one.....? Yep, found you. the grey rendering doesn't give much of a contrast to the white character.

From memory, I just followed the instruction given. Drag pointer.

SparkieRob commented on dragonfish's blog entry in Dragonfish's Kite Adventures
Great report. Kite Party is definitely on my list to attend. This whets the appetite even more. Thanks. -

Don't know why the quotation marks did that... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

"Sent from the Kitelife mobile app" I like that!!!!!!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I play to the birds in the park... Tricks Party may not work outside of Europe. Still, it's very exciting to watch. I know the comradery between the pilots is great, the crowds are big.

Can't like this enough. If polling the masses at a future date, I'd be happy to purchase a KL app.

Once I'm happy with the set up, I'll send you a set to test out. Copy. Replicate... 😎

A while back there was an iOS app, IPS Communities, that was an equivalent to Tapatalk but can't seem to find it anymore. Quite often if I was using my mobile browser it would ask if I wanted to use the IPS app. For or what it's worth, I only use Tapatalk to read the forums and comment. If I order anything I use either my iPad with Chrome or a real pc.

4 months on and I'm replacing the nylon studs in the bottom two verts. I must admit since putting them in I have been a little more aggressive with the landings, either 2 point or wing tips. Now actively making prototype number 2. Just using the mods I mentioned earlier. I did put an "O" ring inside about a month back. The rods show not fractures or chips which is good. 1/ making the magnets this time. 2/ the lighter flints have proved a little more work. I've used some epoxy to glue a Zippo flint in an interference hole. Haven't taken the out....yet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
