  1. Very sweet! SUL's, barely feeling the wind yet the kite feels empowered by it. The calmness of action, the impossibly s-l-o-w rotations. A feeling of oneness. I love flying my SUL most of all. I'm glad you like your own 'vana and look forward to hearing more.
  2. Even the cheaper Spectre lines have a little bit of spring in them. I wouldn't use poly lines on a 2 line kite. Poly has a bit more spring in it. Braided poly is ok for single line kites as it can absorb the wind gusts. Spring is the last thing you want on a controllable kite. A Nexus is a great kite to start on, comes with its own lines and bag. While it's not a competition grade, it's not intended as one. Good on you for wanting to support your local kite store. I like to get a kite that I like looking at, after all you'll be looking at it a fair bit. Let us know how you are going. One thing, check if there is a kite club in you area. Get in touch and go and ask to fly what they recommend. Who knows, they might have a kite you like even more second hand.. Sent from my iPhone using KiteLife mobile app
  3. And down the rabbit hole you go... Unwind your lines and check that they are all the same length. Even a little bit different can matter. Do your handles have long leaders on top? That is the bit to line with a series of knots at regular intervals. If so, connect on about 3/4 the way out. 60 footers are OK to start on. Things will happen a bit faster but so long as you are prepared for it, it's all good. Ok, Urban flying. 30 foot is great for tight spaces and for moving freely about. Check out the thread "Urban kiting tips" for so info. (I'll get the link and post back). If your kite has the EXP rods they are 3 Wraps or 3 Feathers. They will be ok for about 8mph up. If in an urban environment the wind can vary greatly, from zero to lots. Breath... If the kite looks like it's going to crash, step forward and push your arms in front of you. This takes the energy out of the kite. But most of all, lets us know how you are going. Quads are damn good fun. Sent from my iPhone using KiteLife mobile app
  4. At a recent festival, not sure where, they used balloons to fly the kites as the wind had bottomed out completely. Sent from my iPhone using KiteLife mobile app
  5. A great kite in all respects. Sent from my iPhone using KiteLife mobile app

  9. Yes. Small change. Fly it to feel it. I fly with the nose back with the sail quite square to the wind. The sail gets quite stall happy but very wind efficient at the same time. I have a few different kites, SUL UL, so I don't have to trim for the wind. I just change kites. Sent from my iPhone using KiteLife mobile app
  10. The "Kitelife" app is now on the Oz App Store, and my phone! Sent from my iPhone using KiteLife mobile app
  11. That will be how you adjust your kite. There are different methods that each maker prefers. Did you try adjusting or just leave it as is? Make sure it's even each time in case it moves. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. The lines to the upper (top) spreader usually have a little pigtail with some knots on them. If you connect to the knot closest to the edge of the kite this will make it easier for light wind. Nose towards you. If you connect it on the knot farthermost away from the edge of the kite it will make flying in high wind easier. Nose away from you. In between is a variation of the extremes. Obviously these are very general directions. Someone who has a Q will chime in with better specifics. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Good, good, good. Lots of valuable lessons there. Not sure if the Quantums bridle is tunable for light to heavy winds. Might be worth a look. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Watch out for the international members, they can be online at odd hours... Welcome. Ask lots. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Budget and wind speed. The EXP is a totally different animal to the others but will do EVERYTHING in any Rev video you've seen. Has certain limitations. I started quads on an EXP and it was a blast! I have flown the Quantum and the Zypher. The Quantum is a fairly "heavy" kite. Needs a bit of wind to get going. Very robust and has some great crash coping mechanisms. Made well. The Zypher is a lighter wind kite. Not a delicate low wind kite. I found it OK. Response was good, finish was good. Heard mixed reviews of the E3. Heard lots of good about the Kymera. Look for RTF kite packages. Ready to fly. That means they come with lines and straps/handles. If you are dealing with The Kite Shoppe, Theresa is very good to deal with. Tell her what you are after and your budget and she won't steer you wrong, personal experience with her. Quads or duals, couldn't hurt to get one of each... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. If the pull becomes too uncomfortable, stick to the edges of the window. If you're not sure what that is, Wind Window, I'll try to explain. With your back to the wind imagine holding a ribbon in your hand. The ribbon will run in the direction of the wind. Now about 45 degrees left and right, and above of that would be the area that still be usable without the horribly uncomfortable pull. At 25mph it will still pull, just not as bad. Glad you had fun. Don't worry, the crashes get less and less. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
