  1. Bummed to see JB won't be through Vegas :/ can't say that I blame him..... Safe travels JB and TK.
  2. JB recommended the Akubra as well, a couple years ago
  3. Out here in the desert, the only Tilleys that will do are the LTM8, or the TM10- the entire crown is mesh!
  4. Hey Kelly, The mesh under the leading edge helps greatly with reverse flight. The mesh is present on MOST Revs, definitely on all the B-Pro kites. It is a weak point, IMO it is the weakest part of the kite, providing the sail has wear strips for the vertical rods. -Dave
  5. Rev flyers tend to call the difference between the top and bottom lines "differential". It does make sense to compare the two, however, I hesitate to use the number as a baseline for comparison to other pilots' setups. Reason being is so many factors adjust this number, including line stretch, and how you hold your handles.
  6. Leaders are there specifically to tune the sail to current conditions. Just based on that statement alone, I can tell you that for maximum performance, one particular setting will never be enough. There are many other variables besides conditions that influence tuning as well; line stretch/creep, bridle stretch, sail stretch, etc. Here's what I look for when I tune (when wind speed is optimal for my setup)- while dead-center in the wind window, I can (just) hold an upright hover, and can laterally slide upright while maintaining altitude. I say "just" meaning the kite won't travel upwards any farther without an input from me, it's just barely able to hold an upright hover without having to constantly whump the sail to do so. In crazy light winds, the above won't work, I tune for lots of brake, so my hard forward inputs won't pull the Rev right out of the sky. I also tune for lots of brake in high winds.
  7. Yes! The SLE is stiffer than the 4 wrap. It is a 1/2 ID TUBE, compared to the 1/4" ID used for the 4 wrap. I think the SLE, even in the 3 wrap version, is quite a bit stiffer than a 4 wrap.
  8. Why deal with the suspense? If everyone would just surrender their entry(s) to me, I would automatically win, and we could all sleep better then, knowing a winner had been chosen. That's logic. 957
  9. Whump - Putting kites to work since 1991!
  10. I'd say you're thinking here is logical, but don't miss out on the chance to fly your midvent with the 3 wrap, its one of my favorite setups
  11. Ah man JB, who's gonna crack the whip on me when I get lazy and don't want to fly team? Oh that's right, Katrina will be there I haven't been to a kite related gathering without seeing you there, Beth and I will miss you.
  12. .... a little further north, where they realize they made a mistake, and proceed to ship it to the southwest!!
  13. I'll be there first thing Friday morning! Very excited
  14. Another good reasons to buy Tilley is the warranty- they stand behind their products hardcore, like Rev does, Costco, Nordstrom, and a few others. Check it out, guaranteed never to shrink, fade, stretch, they will replace it no problems, if it happens, and usually fast. Also, easy to clean!
  15. To each their own! Wind was perfect at Huntington Beach, I was getting bored. I was so bored in fact I'm reading out there in a couple weeks to be bored again
  16. I'm only 5 short hours from the beach... But I like it inland just fine To explain: First time flying at the beach was last year at Kite Party! I was so stoked I was like a 6 year old at Christmas, at first. Then I began to notice something... After an hour of flying Revs in the smoothest wind ever, I was getting bored. Bored! I'm used to constantly struggling and fighting with the wind, and it makes for a more entertaining flying experience, for me anyways Ps- I wish I still flew dualie trick kites, I would love the beach wind for them.
  17. I love these stories! My kite story begins with cabin fever. I gamble for a living. About 6 years ago I switched from playing live poker to playing almost exclusively online, as the logistics involved in live play were really starting to grate on my cheapskate nerve. At first, this was fantastic! But soon, I was staying indoors for days on end, not leaving my house at all, not getting any sunshine or fresh air... It took a couple years, but I began to get sick, and it wouldn't go away- sick in my body and sick in my head. I went and saw a couple of doctors, and after some tests, they told me I was vitamin D deficient and just needed some sunshine and/or vitamins. This would help my mental state as well, they told me. Well I took up R/C hobbies, as I had a friend who was just getting into it, and now I could afford to (I used to drool over R/C when I was young). Had lots of fun, got outdoors, felt better. Cars, then boats, then planes. Starting pricey, and getting increasingly spendy... Then R/C helicopters. Oh my. Costs went exponentially up here, due to the costs involved with crashing. I remember thinking, often, how I could fly it better if I just had some feedback through the sticks... My Buddy Roger tore up his tires one day, so I stayed at the track with our cars while he went for parts. He came back with a kite, a Prism Snapshot 1.9. I made fun of him for probably an hour straight. He struggled with it for more than 2 hours that day (less than 4 mph wind). So Roger calls me up one day and says the wind is strong enough to fly this kite (it was 10 mph) and he can show me how to fly it. He tells me how I'm going to love this, as it will appeal to my athletic nature. I get down to the park and see this parachute looking thing flying for a couple seconds at a time. It looked BADASS when it was up! He shows me how to fly, and within a couple minutes I'm tearing up the park- low ground passes, crazy fast spins, I actually "whooped" out loud uncontrollably a couple times! I loved the feedback the Snapshot gives, and a connection to it that I could FEEL through the handles. I hadn't enjoyed myself like that in YEARS. I bought my own the next day. I basically quit my R/C hobby a year later, when I was introduced to the Revolution kite, again by Roger. Roger doesn't fly at all anymore, due to health concerns I was introduced to the kite community when I went online looking for a way to avoid snagging my lines on my handles and found the Rev forum 4 years later, I'm a daily flyer. I have a deep appreciation for kites and kiting. It has changed my life, and for the better. I have found my passion. I love the kite community too! I will always be flying some form of kite, not matter how far into the future you look me up! And I will always be seeking out others who do the same
  18. Dude! Pat yourself on the back Scott, nothing to change there!
  19. Them's axles! How we get there seems it will be our own. I don't look like Scott does when I axel, but all the components everyone is talking about are on display there- slide or slide achieved while floating forward, trailing wing wingtip pointed at pilot, de-powering with the leading hand, and impact on the trailing wing brake line.
  20. It's in the B-Series DVD that JB talks about LE down setup... anyways, it all works. Everyone learns differently, better to learn as much as you can from as many sources as you can, as long as its relevant information. That's why I'm on the forum everyone here has great opinions
  21. Brutal wind there! What's scary is how much more you really did have left to go BEFORE your Xtra had problems, and even scarier is really what conditions you would have to be in to see damage occur... I flew in 25 mph sustained (40 mph gust) on my Xtra a couple days ago, 4 wrap frame, 90# line. The sail was definitely over-loaded, lines were singing off and on, and the LE had a frightful curve to it, but I felt it could go another 10 mph sustained with 150# line. While the kite can take those conditions, I'm physically uncomfortable with flying above 20 mph, for very extended periods of time anyways. Things blowing in my face and ears, the loud wind noise, and the Xtra, even with all its venting, still pulls like a truck above 20 mph.. It's the most controllable truck on the planet though
  22. Welcome to the forum!
  23. Lol I capitalized the wrong letter- I need nylon hoes!
  24. (That girl who says puuurrrpplllee is cute) Geography is of no concern to The RNG. This one is headed to a die-hard, to someone who has paid their dues and has some sweat-equity built up. Haha yeah right! This one is headed my way #BabyNeedShoes
