I've been flying when I can... most of the wind here has been too high to fly dual lines in, so the RevVent has been getting most of the airtime. I've actually flown it so much that I finally broke it. The endcaps have cracked & tape doesn't hold them together too well ! I've learned all the hover positions, and have even been able to paste it to a flagpole a few times. Yes, I'll probably be looking to get a standard 1.5 soon. How much better are the pros ? Would a hack like me notice a difference ? The last good wind I had was back in December... I took a little video. It might not look it, but the wind was very low.

Dave got this kite custom made for me... He was a great guy to deal with, and I wouldn't hesitate to order something else from him...

Finally ! Let's see if this gets a dark side-r to see the light ! Congratulations, Nick. Merry Christmas ! Now lets see some pics/video !

Congratulations, J. I think I would've chosen something 4 line related, as well. Or maybe a SB Pro Dancer. Tough choice. I do like your choice in sail pattern, though.

Learn to fly on the Hypnotist, apply what you've learned on a QPro, Once you're confident with your flying skills, get a QPro. Although the Hypno and the QPro share the same sail shape, the difference is night & day. This is assuming that you want to stick with a Prism kite...

The Kymera flies great in COLD conditions. I filmed this last Feb... there was no snow, but it was in the twenties this day with a lively breeze... http://player.vimeo.com/video/37085633

WHoever wins this one is on for a treat. One of the favorite kites in my bag, has a very versatile wind range, and is just plain fun to fly...

The wind was solid 30s here today with gusts that made it hard to breathe. I was thinking about taking out my 1.5b vent, but then thought again... Let me ask the Rev people... when you put both frames in, they go side by side ? What about the endcaps ? I mean, did I read something wrong somewhere... I could swear that I saw that you put both frames in when the wind gets nuts. I've been flying the 3 wrap in winds up to 20mph, maybe a little over at times, never saw the need for even switching to the 4 wrap. ~Rob.

Thank you, Peter. This is such a good idea, it's very difficult to explain certain tricks with your hand.

But it doesn't work on Netscape ?!? -

John & Spence tried to help me out when I had my IE issues, but after going around & around, I gave in to using Chrome. We all wrote it off to the way I had my machines configured for work purposes (high security). There's a security setting that's off in your IE, I'd be willing to bet. Have you tried adding Kitelife to your 'trusted sites' list ? That would be my first guess, also make sure the security level for your trusted sites is set for low. BTW, I notice this page is 'https' instead of 'http'... has it always been like that, or is that something new ? -

Unless there was a backround change to Kitelife, it is almost certainly Windows updates that did this to you, Nick. It is what it is... you want your security updates, that's certainly not a bad thing. I make my living figuring stuff like this out for my customers. Sometimes it's the firewall, sometimes it's the network, and sometimes it's the workstation. Every day, it's a puzzle. Splitting my personal web activity onto another browser was easy to get used to. I do my work on IE, and the rest on Chrome. Shrug my shoulders & move on... 8) ~Rob. -

Hey RR... Are all these computers accessing the internet through the same gateway ? Did your internet service change recently ? I had trouble a few months ago using IE, but a switch to Chrome took most of the quirks out of the site. I have to use IE for business & connecting to secure corporate sites, and was very resistant to having to use multiple browsers. It's just the way of it, though. I have some corporate sites that don't work in IE on some machines, but work fine with Firefox. Some sites are designed on and intended to be viewed on a Mac. There's a good possibility that a Microsoft security update caused your machines to not view the site properly, also. If you haven't all ready, try adding kitelife to your 'trusted sites' list, and drop the security level for your trusted sites all the way down. Good luck, but my final resolution was to just give in and switch my 'personal browsing' to another browser, and keep IE for business sites. ~Rob. -

I had to switch browsers about six months ago because my IE8 wouldn't work with the site. Tell RR just to switch his browser like you told me... -
Thanks, you guys are right, I do have a few dozen dual line sets. I could just equalize up two sets of old Prism 85'X150#.

Ok, in the three videos you posted, it looked like you, TK, and Spence were flying on what looked like 60'-85' lines. Maybe it was just caused by the camera distorting distance, I don't know. But... I haven't really clicked with the 120s, I'm used to flying my kites (duals) on 50'-85' lines, depending on wind speed. I'm just kind of looking for someone to say... 'cut those 120s down'. I've really decided to cut them, just want advice on a good alternate shorter length for a 1.5b full vent. (That's all I've got right now) John, I also wonder if you're the camera person in the 2 videos that you're not flying ? (Spence & TK's) The camera work is exceptional in all of them, some of the best kite videography I've seen that's shot by a human, not a tripod. Good work, whoever's on camera duty !

That's some cool stuff, J & S. Gotta say, I'd like to see the natural color version, too. One thing I noticed... in this video and the Double Dippin' video, shorter lines, not the 'standard' 40 meter ones. After over a year of having a Rev, I haven't found a single other person to fly with, and I think the long lines are a handicap. I was told that I have to have the long lines if I want to fly with someone else, everyone uses 120s... So when you guys freestyle alone, you choose to use shorter lines ? Am I going to learn faster and clean up my act quicker on shorter lines ? What length do yous prefer when freestylin' alone ? ~Rob. BTW... Nice videos !
-
Dust... what kind of lines do you have ? Quality lines like Laser Pro are an important investment to your kite flying hobby. I've messed around with the other brands of Spectra, they're all pretty much as good as long as they're even. I never do any maintenance to my lines, when they wear out, I switch them out. Like Spence says, up to 3 years is what you can expect from good lines. I do 90% of my flying on sand, and my lines go in the salt water frequently. Like I said, zero maintenance except for occasional length matching. I get 15-20 wraps out of all my linesets before they bind, even the oldest, fuzziest ones. There's something wrong with your lines if you're only getting 5-6 wraps. Oh, I should mention that I fly dual line 98% of the time, I don't really wrap my quad lines more than 5-10 times, they do tend to bind quicker. Don't know what you fly...

Some real nice flying there, Spence. That KiteLife Rev is one of the nicest looking Revs I've seen.
-
Hey Jim.... You'll be able to fly the Rev right away. The initial learning curve is fast & steep, that's probably why they call it the dark side. Good luck ! ~Rob.

You know, it's funny. The first stunt kite I bought ran me around $40. Total impulse buy when I was visiting a nearby tourist town. I remember that the people I was with looked at me like I had 2 heads... 'you're spending how much on a KITE ?' Most people can't wrap their heads around how a kite could possibly cost 10x that. So they want to get into it, and think that $100-$150 kite should be GOOD ENOUGH to figure out if they like it. It's a shame that the knockoffs don't at least fly well, because all those people buying them are probably disenchanted with the whole kite flying thing and loose interest in the whole hobby. So, the legitimate kite industry is really getting screwed twice... once when the design is ripped off, and twice because the crappy flying knock-offs are knocking perspective fliers out before they get hooked.

I can't believe how fast time has flown. Too bad I haven't gotten a chance to fly much, but we finally got the Pyros in the air. Well, at least 2 of them. I needed another hand to manage the last kite, and it was just the 3 of us out to fly on the inland spot. Well, that's the first fly for the beginning of kite season here. Thanks to Kitelife for such a great prize ! They fly great, and are big kites that don't pull too much, they were easy for the kids to fly.

I remember a dirt bike rider riding through a game of catch I was having with my father when I was a kid. More than once, and there were other places he could've been riding. On his third or fourth pass, my father nailed him with a fastball in the side and yelled something I wasn't supposed to repeat. Last time he rode through...

Breaking is part of flying. I guess you figured out that's why you have more than 1 kite. Kite flying season starts in 2 weeks here... can't wait !

Well, I really like mine. Never heard back from HD about how it flew. Maybe it was too hot for flying in Texas this summer...
