riffclown Posted July 28, 2020 Report Posted July 28, 2020 Prototype under way. Varied the strips in strategic places to deter flutter from the angles.. 2 1 Quote
Paul LaMasters Posted July 30, 2020 Report Posted July 30, 2020 will be interesting to see how this aspect effects flight dynamics, gliding for example, love the experimenting sir! 1 Quote
riffclown Posted July 31, 2020 Author Report Posted July 31, 2020 Decide to play with the color placement as well for the other panel. Still a ways to go but it is taking shape.. 2 1 Quote
mebeatee Posted August 1, 2020 Report Posted August 1, 2020 Well you've let your secret out....the flat of empties......lol. Kewl stuff and concept(s)!!!!! bt Quote
riffclown Posted August 1, 2020 Author Report Posted August 1, 2020 @mebeatee I didn't know that Arizona Tea and Monster Energy was a secret but OK. You got me. Quote
riffclown Posted August 4, 2020 Author Report Posted August 4, 2020 Leading Edge is attached and the Center panel is placed in. I may put a design in the center but haven't really decided yet. Edge binding, and remaining trim will be blue. Haven't decided on wear strip color yet. They will be either White or Blue. 1 Quote
Paul LaMasters Posted August 4, 2020 Report Posted August 4, 2020 dugard uses his initials, Shook a compass rose, Bazzer and Rev each use a screen printing process w/logos, you'll come up with something equally unique for your own "brand" 1 Quote
riffclown Posted August 4, 2020 Author Report Posted August 4, 2020 I typically continue the pattern across or vent the center. but since this is a proof of concept I have decide to play with it somewhat.. 2 Quote
riffclown Posted August 5, 2020 Author Report Posted August 5, 2020 I still may doing something with the center but the sail itself is done except for Bridle which will be done tomorrow. 1 Quote
riffclown Posted August 5, 2020 Author Report Posted August 5, 2020 OK just need the proper wind to fly it in.. Bridle check was successful,, 1 Quote
Zuul Posted August 5, 2020 Report Posted August 5, 2020 Great minds think alike? I drew this up last year and never got around to building it. It's slightly different, and has less venting. All strips are 2" wide, and the basic dimensions are like a 1.5. (I adjusted the shape a little.) If you want to build it, go for it. 1 1 Quote
Zuul Posted August 5, 2020 Report Posted August 5, 2020 Oh, and I can provide 100% scale plans if you wanted to have it printed. It's all in CAD. My intent was to allow the weave to act as the leading edge venting rather than add mesh or strips like you've been using. Quote
riffclown Posted August 5, 2020 Author Report Posted August 5, 2020 I very much like your color scheme and may steal that.. That strip arrangement looks similar to the first perspective prototype layout I used for the Window and snowflake meshes, Where the vanish point is in the center and the other strips are parallel. I do like the performance of that particular design. It has a very good control but also eats gusts very well. The strips in both of these are just over 1" wide.. I do love playing with the angles though.. 1 Quote
riffclown Posted August 5, 2020 Author Report Posted August 5, 2020 FWIW, I don't actually use a pattern for anything except the leading edges.. I pretty much free form every kite I make from there.. Quote

I don't know how it affects performance, but I sure like the way it looks! 😄 Quote
riffclown Posted August 5, 2020 Author Report Posted August 5, 2020 I made that change between the snowflake and the widow. I also just like the triangle there.. Makes it very clean looking.. I used it on one of my earlier sails "Yonder" 2 Quote
riffclown Posted August 5, 2020 Author Report Posted August 5, 2020 The angles of the strips on this particular kite made it very hard to control puckers and mis-alignments. I think I got everything but there are a few spots with machine holes where I had undo some of the sewing and do it right. 1 Quote
riffclown Posted November 17, 2020 Author Report Posted November 17, 2020 And Finally some video. Very please with the performance of this sail.. Quote
