AzKiter
If you guys had to choose between a Hq kite Bag and a ITW kite bag what one would it be? I'm not sure what one is better quality and would last longer.
bbailey49
I have 3 ITW bags. 2 of the 48" length for my stunt kites (one for duallies, one for Rev's) and 1 of the 62" for my SLK's and any stunters that don't break down small enough for the 48". I've never had a problem with any of them (other than filling them up with too many kites). To give you an idea of size, I think I can fit 10 or 12 revs in a 48". However, I carry my lines and handles in a separate bag.
RobB
If you're talking about the basic HQ bag, just a long tube with one small pocket in the end... that one is a piece of cr@p. I say that because I have 3, and the seams have let go on all of them. I rarely carry them outside the house, and just use them for storage of kites that I don't fly much. The ITW bag is built out of better material, and is worth the extra few $$$. The ITW bag that I have is over 10 years old, and is still in great shape. I also use it frequently to carry from my house to the beach, the HQ bags have been to the beach less than 5 times each.
Wayne Dowler
Got a Rev friend that has used an ITW bag for several years and it is so much better. Better made, better material, better features. HQ bags have no where near the same strength!
Brucifer
I got an HQ Proline kite bag for Xmas and I think it is fantastic. The Proline bags are nothing like the cheap ones and include backpack straps so you can pack other stuff to the beach at the same time.http://www.metropolis-drachen.de/shopframeless/images/katalog/zubehoer/taschen/hqprolinekitebag.jpg

But what do they cost? The ITW 48" bag is only $40.00 if you can get it locally, +s/h if mailed.
Reef Runner
These (MLD Big Wings Series) are worth checking out. http://www.rudystoys.com/Departments/Kite-Bags.aspx Just simple duffel bag style, with, or without pockets. I've got one of the 48" bags, with one outside pocket, and I've used it for Revs for years. Very tough and durable bags. My bag came with a shoulder strap, but I removed it, so I just got the two regular handles on mine now. The Zippered pouch works well for carrying several line sets. I generally lay a couple of handle sets inside the main bag, on top of the Revs. Most of my other bags are open on one end (quiver style), with a should strap, and homemade........ Brucifer
Here is the cheapest I've found the HQ Proline bags at $90-100. http://www.funwithwind.com/store/viewallcategory.asp?idcategory=167 Placed one order with this outfit and had mixed feelings about the experience but I'm still thinking of ordering the larger Proline bag from them for my longer kites. Seach Google images for other views of the bag. Has nice zippered pouch on front with multiple mesh pockets for kite line, etc. I have 15 kites stuffed into mine (including 2 Microns). Backpack straps allowing vertical transport are great, no worries about swinging a wide load around.

I had one of those HQ (long tube) bags, years ago. I likewise found it to be much be less than desirable. (very little protection and very poorly made) I gave mine away to someone to use for an umbrella, or something Don't really have any experience with the newer HQ Proline style. They do look a lot better !
Wayne Dowler
Yes 2 straps are the bomb!! As a bowler I had several straps laying around, just added one to my Rev bag. Now I can carry my bag like a backpack - up and down - and leave my hands free for other stuff! Plus if you wrap them back around the bag, the 2 straps give you 1 handle for 1 handed carry. 3wrapframe
Skydog, thats what i would do. I have the ITW one but the skydog one is much nicer and just as inexpensive, plus has 3 more pockets.
AzKiter
I know I ventured away from the two brands I asked about. But I think I made a great decision, I went with the 8 x 48 2 pocket MLD Big Wing Series from Rudys toys. Awesome bag and quality.

RobB
Nice looking bag, it looks like it would be a perfect size for Revs. I guess you could leave one end open to accommodate full-sized dual lines kites and SLKs ?
Reef Runner
IMHO, that's the perfect Rev bag, especially if you put your individual Revs, back into their sleeves, which I always do. I've been using that same bag (MLD from Rudy's) for years now, except mine is black with only one red outside pocket. If I were going to do it again, I would probably add the second pocket, but mine has been quite adequate, so far. Otherwise, it's roomy, easy to access, and tough. I didn't order the optional shoulder strap, so I eventually removed the "D" rings and tabs, simply because they just kept getting in the way when zipping the bag. Again, this is a very substantial bag (1000 denier Cordura), and it will give you many years of service. Good choice and well worth investigating, should anyone be looking ! Wayne Dowler
Because I carry my bag pretty far distances, I would recommend a 2nd shoulder strap. That will let you carry it backpack style, and leave both hands free for other stuff. Single strap over the shoulder, always wanted to slip off and ended up needing a hand to balance it. 2 straps stop that from happening.

As Wayne mentions, they always want to slip off, and usually require an extra hand, to keep them in place. On a personal note, I rarely carry my kite bag, any further than from the garage to the back of my truck, so I really don't need a shoulder strap, or double straps. When I get to where I'm going to fly, I normally park, open the tailgate, unzip my kite bag, and assemble the kite (rev or dualie) of choice, right there, at the back of my truck. Then, all I need is a set of lines, handles or straps, and a kite stake. I'm usually no more than 25' to 50' from the back of the truck, while I'm flying, so not much walking involved, plus it's not a problem to just walk back to the truck, should I want another kite, water, or whatever. I suppose it all depends on what you need, and your own personal circumstances......... (just my $.02) If I'm at the coast, I simply carry the kite(s) I'm going to fly, up the dunes or out onto the beach, fully assembled, along with line-set, handles, and stake......... SparkieRob
I have never minded a single shoulder strap. Carried my tool bag like that for longer than I care to admit. Never seems to slide off. I use the roll up types though so I don't need that hand to hold anything, I've rolled it all up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
John Barresi
MLD is the "standard" of kite bags, used them back in the early 90s when Rudy was one of my sponsors, seems they've outlasted (availability-wise) everything else that has come along over the years.
