  1. Hard for me to really suggest one over another, but the Echo is certainly in a comparable class.
  2. We've had all three - lime, blue and red since the Kymera was released.
  3. Wow, the photos are great - nice spot you've got there.
  4. *warm fuzzies*
  5. They're all lucky.
  6. Yep - red, lime and blue are the stock colors.
  7. Been known to happen.
  8. Hi spblat, I'm also based in Portland! Welcome to the forum, lots of friendly folks and help to be had here.
  9. Lucky #1014.
  10. Our latest prize, to be drawn for one subscriber on May 15th, 2013! This is the exact same kite that Spence Watson and I fly - literally, when we take a new one out of the bag we just add the weights and adjust the bridle to the "nose back" position at the top spreader fittings. Kymera, $210 value! This package includes kite, removable weights and kite sleeve! NOTE: Primary color of the kite in this drawing is RED, with WHITE and GREY. -- Click here to sign up -- Odds of winning are currently 1/343, drawing will be on May 15th, 2013! Our thanks, and the very best to you...
  11. You mentioned the 4D and AirWave, the Echo is also in that same size/application range... Zero/indoor.
  12. Terry, give your lady luck #1030. We had a what is my subscriber # thread going, but for some reason it was in the Off Topic section. It's now located in the Current Drawings section, thanks for bringing it to my attention. http://kitelife.com/forum/topic/5178-subscriber-number/
  13. Sorry guys, Robert said he was fighting off a bug of some kind so I didn't ask for a photo, but I'll see if we can get him to post back here with one later on.
  14. You've got a good attitude, you'll be fine. Really glad to hear you enjoyed the Kymera! *warm fuzzies*
  15. Stephen, for the B2 you won in our prize drawing on Saturday night at Chico's, which would you like... Lime / black STD or purple / gray VTD? Let me know and I'll ship it out this week.
  16. Woohoo! Just got a call from Mr Pyle, turns out ge lives in Portland and is coming to pick up his prize within the hour! Will try and snap a pic if he's not opposed!
  17. Hey hey, tricks are overrated... Just "flying" is a beauty unto itself. End of the day, being able to pilot your kite is worth a hundred times more... How to draw or release line tension to affect speed, changing the size of the arc inside a circle, push turn vs pull turn vs combination turns, etc, etc... These are the things that will bring real control, and I've found they actually deepen the experience of trick flying. Also, take heed - tricks are easy to sort of get "stuck on", I always recommend folks balance their practice with both tricks and fundamentals... No need to ever limit yourself just because of a wing wrap, you can get those no matter what you do, it's all about how you put the kite down and get 'em out.
  18. Hit the axel, slack both lines fairly hard during the axel, then re-load (line tension) to fly away or recover.
  19. Hi, sounds like fun! Quick tips... The black caps are to protect your wing tips, simply and optionally (should be very snug), depends on the turf you're flying on. With regard to wraps from axels, it has to do with slacking that line more so it hangs below the rotation and doesn't catch.
  20. Ditto - and it's always inspiring to see folks advance so much in just a couple of days. Can't wait to ramp it up with some grid team exercises at the May Rev Clinic!
  21. Tip stand = up on tip, simply. Tip stab = Hard landing on one tip only, holding the tip stand. (also called a spike) Black hole = Hard sideways drop onto one tip only. (works best with older, flat-sailed kites)
  22. Hrm... Nose down or nose up? A tip stand, tip stab or spike would put the kite balancing on the wing tip, nose up, at an angle like this: Leading edge landing is also very real, kite lands on one wing, nose down at an angle (ready for a flip or leading edge relaunch) like this:
  23. I tend to prefer narrow wrist straps held in three fingers, something about the slight weight of the straps flicking about that feels yummy to me. Really low winds, I wrap the straps around my hands until i can keep an index finger the line. Only in the highest winds do I actually put them on my wrists. Indeed, no right or wrong - try it all, fly what you like, try it all again, repeat.
  24. Here's the break-down of Rev spars... http://www.revkites.com/kite-product/revolution-spars-rods In simple terms, black race is not less likely to break, only slightly more brittle (less flex) than 2-wrap, but they have a "spring" or "snap back" that I would liken to a sport kite suspension, as opposed to 2 wraps being more like a sedan... Spring, pop, snap, response, all involved.
