Those maneuvers are extremely dated and simple, some calls details have evolved, but the basic movements required should serve as good practice items. With regard to 40m, I believe that is the international (non US) team standard, it’s close enough to play - the only challenge it presents is during “follow the train” maneuvers where kites with shorter lines are leaving wake or turbulence, through which anything on longer lines will have to fly (like driving a bumpy road). Worst case, it’s easy enough to shorten within a few minutes, which I am happy to personally assist with if it’s agreed to be advantageous.

Join Scott Weider and John Barresi for two full days of ADVANCED quad line instruction on the beautiful shores of Long Beach WA on Aug 4-5, 2018... Unlike most of our other quad clinics, this event will focus exclusively on more advanced techniques in both individual and team formats focusing on aspects including: Clockwork (all fractions) Bicycle rotation (static and traveling) Reverse flight (directional control) Tip pivot work (forward and reverse) Slack line tricks (axel, flip flac, etc) Flight and cornering without stalling Use of line tension ("pulsing" and "whump") And more! Any team flying exercises will also incorporate more use of and training on these details than usual, to provide a good group learning environment on the topic(s). == SKILL REQUIREMENTS (to participate): Relatively stable hover in any orientation, including inverted Basic reverse flight ability from a sideways hover Basic flight shapes (circle, square, diamond) == Testimonials - http://tinyurl.com/jb-testimonials Sign up link - https://kitelife.com/forum/store/product/93-advanced-quad-clinic-aug-4-5-2018/ == Ideal choice of equipment for this class is any model of Revolution 1.5 (includes EXP, SLE, B-Series, printed specials, etc) or similar "1.5 platform" models (like Djinn, Phoenix, Freilein, Los Hermanos, etc)... Registration is $150 per person ($125 for KiteLife Subscribers) and includes full access to the clinic on both days (10a-4p)... Stunt Kite Clinic (Aug 11-12, 2018) **canceled**
John Barresi replied to John Barresi's topic in Scheduled Events
This is an excellent opportunity for folks from our last stunt kite clinic to "level up" the information they absorbed in June, as well as to receive the key tips they need to perfect whatever tricks they added to their repertoire in the meantime... We will still do the "stunt kite 101" for first time attendees or those who wish to experience it again, but we'll also keep at least one master instructor available during that timeframe (either Scott Weider or Paul de Bakker) to assist folks who would rather get right to flight exercises, we'll also try to incorporate more opportunities for group example and exercises in the interest of improving the learning experience for everyone, as well as a bit more scheduling (so we all know a bit more what to expect).- 3 replies

Bear in mind, the stock leaders on the B-Series are actually shorter than what most experienced pilots use... As you learn more, you’ll figure out how to use long leaders and still get the kite moving with a little kick or “whump” to activate and maintain the forward drive. There are examples of this in both the Launch & Control and Sail Loading tutorials. Key is, it’s harder to start forward flight when the kite is resting (flat and no frame flex), but once you can flex and hold the frame in a different shape the drive ratio changes to your advantage.

Sorry for the delay on this folks - was neck deep in a quad clinic all day yesterday in Wisconsin, drove 6.5 hrs to Detroit last night and flew back to Portland via Chicago today (on the bus to my house as we speak)... Will draw this ASAP, tonight or tomorrow morning at the latest. Thanks for your patience, as always. 😇- 24 replies
