    Kick turn

Kick turn makes more sense to me than 1/2 axle because of the kites behavior. This is one of the 1st tricks I learned. Went through a spell where I lost it but it's back pretty consistent. My moves start with a small pop on bottom push on top and snap for rotation. Yesterday didn't fly enough to really get zoned in. Winds were really low and struggled to keep my Tekken sul aloft 1/2 the time. Another flier with a lot of experience and kites to envy showed me the one hand top wing move. Seen it in videos. In the beginning shied away from it because I couldn't move forward fast enough. So I went more the Mama74 route.Fella doesn't fly duals in very high winds. That's why he buggies and has quads I would guess LOL.His opinion is the trick is to be performed low to the ground at the window edge just as kite stalls. They're beautiful when he does it and seems just about effortless moving to the cascade.Disagree that the edge is where the trick is to be performed. If you can stall the kite the trick can be executed.1/2 axle can be done center window in 20 mph doing the the 2 handed method. I believe it's a trick I need to master any where in the window up to 25 mph but thats me.Talked to Lam only once but a couple things still resonate. He'd just came back from a trip to asia where winds were running 40. Took me a couple months to figure out that was KPH not MPH. Still some pretty high winds to trick in. The fliers were paid to perform and were expected to put on a great show. No matter the conditions if folks came to watch the show must go on.Think there are a lot of fliers can 1/2 axle center window in 25 mph. Lam is one.The epiphany for me was the one handed makes the comete smoother and easier to catch. I'll see later today but I think the Slot and Taz will still be easier using the 2 handed method.I still struggle with the comete. On a good day I won't succeed even 25% of the time. Broke more parts learning it then the going across the window doing cartwheels.Think today the Comete is finally going to start to come into focus. Got a very nice lecture by the 2 fellas yesterday on the need to fly with purpose. Think I've heard that from EVERYBODY with experience LOL. Going to really try today but this stuff is so much gosh darn fun most times I just go willy nilly laughing and grinning till my face hurts.Patience my burro.IF YA CAN'T DO IT AT LEAST FAKE IT!!! .
  2. Got to fly a Ocius SUL today.Very little time on a Aura or the Ocius. Took to the Aura right off. Ocius not so much.Frame is really light and I was afraid of breaking it. Very sensitive is a good description. I think I could get a Aura SUL and get right to it. The Ocius SUL I'd need to be real careful and become a better flier before I'd be real comfortable on it. I definitely liked the speed of the kite. Could have flown it longer but a 00 frame with my skills is a little intimidating. Especially being OPK. If someone were to put them side by side and say you can have one 😁 I'd take the Ocius no doubt. Then try like hell to buy the Aura. There was a 7 sul in the air too. Wow is that a neat kite. Fella has a full set of the 7's and a Mohawk. Maybe one day he'll think I'm good enough and trust me to fly one. Wouldn't if I was him but ya never know LOL.There was another sul kite that I got to fly maybe a 1/2 hour. Came from England but don't know what it's called. Story was 6 or 7 years ago a teenage guy kinda lit the stunt kite world up for a bit.Won some competitions and built some kites. Speculation was he's at college studying engineering to hopefully be heard from again soon. The one I flew he built when he was 16 😲 Pretty high aspect and when turning at about 2/10 o'clock there is a clicking sensation. Little unsettling till I got the feel for it.It's like a little tell that helped me with timing. I didn't get to do enough on the kite but I bet that sensation is at 4/8 o'clock too.Really, really liked that kite.
  3. Yup but some days ya keep going ya keep adding to the fix it pile LOL.
  4. Well I called Erich von Daniken(Chariots of the Gods). Been awhile so conversation took awhile to get around to the Jacobs ladder thing.Mentioning kites relevancy abruptly ended the conversation. He's threatened to block my phone number before. Think this time he might have actually done it.makes for some real interesting ideas for a kite design.
  5. Susan was actually a lady named Susanna from Paris France. At 17 her talents for cooking got her a scholarship to Le Cordon Bleu culinary school. There she honed her skills as a pastry chef. While there she met and fell in love with another student named Jean. Together they learned and dreamed of opening their own bakery which they soon did. Few years later Susanna became sad and morose. All they did was work, work, work. Her passion for her art was fading. Jean didn't notice. He cared for nothing except his Susanna and baking. When she asked to go have some fun he'd laugh and reply we are having fun.Making pastry is the funnest thing in the world. One afternoon she slipped away to a nearby park. There she saw a group of people flying kites. She was astonished. She had always thought kites were for kids. From then on she would at times throughout the day go to their shops rooftop to see if there were any kites flying at the park. If so she'd watch till they were done for the day. One day she decided to ask if the fliers would teach her to put up a kite of her own. They were more than happy to oblige. To show her appreciation the next time she brought them each a pudding. They were all absolutely blown away. Best pudding any of them had ever tasted. Soon she was a permanent member of their group. They would set up her kite while she laid out each person's favorite pudding. Although Jean didn't like her absence he quickly realized how rejuvenated she was upon her return to the shop. Like a good man in this type of situation he kept his mouth firmly shut. One day she was asked to go with the group to a beach called Berck-sur-Mer (before the festival) and meet some other fliers. Off she went taking along all the fixings for her puddings. The puddings were a hit and a grand time was had by all. As time passed her friends became better and better fliers. She became a better and better pudding maker.Pretty soon they were traveling all over Europe to all kinds of events. She'd whip up her puddings to share while the others set up her kite. When done she would sit in a VERY comfortable recliner, sip her flask of brandy, tend her kite while dreaming of what she and Jean would create when she got home. When asked why she didn't sell her puddings at the events. She'd reply no they're for the special fliers who bring me so much joy and contentment. Watching them fly their beautiful creations inspires me. People who didn't understand her relationship with others assumed she was kinda lazy letting other people set up her kite and hanging out in a big soft chair most of the day. Those that DID know jokingly started referring to her as Paresseux Susanna. One year they all went to the Twenterand Festival. That time of year it's very cold and the days are short. Everything went as usual except a couple things.Susanna sipped a little to much brandy and fell asleep. Everyone thought someone else had taken down Susanna's beautiful purple and pink delta. Back at the lodging it was soon realized what had happened. They rushed back to get her but it was to late. There she was head tilted towards the sky, slight smile and her favorite hand crafted line spool clutched in her frozen hands. As the kite was being brought down everyone watched with amazement as the kite fell on it's back and started turning in the most graceful manner anyone had ever seen.Few months later at the Berck-sur- Mer festival a guy walked up to a group of dual line fliers putting their kites on there backs slowly rotating them in a circle. What the heck is that trick he asked in english not knowing French. Couple of the fliers could speak a little english and tried to explain the tribute they were paying to there lost friend Paresseux Susanna.Few months later that fella was at the Basingstoke festival doing the trick. Guy asked what the heck is that called. Lazy Susan, I learned it in France he replied. The name stuck. Time has passed. Jean and the group are getting a little long in the tooth. Jean has hired a young, very industrious couple to do most of the baking. Mostly because they like kites. The group doesn't travel as much. Flying sessions are shorter. More time spent with Jean sipping coffee and enjoying the most exquisite puddings.Took Jean awhile to understand that without the good friends she had and their shared love of kites he would have lost her long before he did. He understands now. Loves them and kites almost as much as her.If in Paris you can find a park that quite often has many kites in the air. Just around the corner is a always crowded little bake shop with a purple and pink delta kite shaped sign out front that says Paresseux Susanna. Walk in and ask if anyone knows how to do a Lazy Susan.Much mirth and friendly laughter will come your way. How foolish you are they'll all say young and old alike. It's not called the Lazy Susan. It's called the PUDDING.
  6. Remember when making another no 2 snowflakes are alike LOL. Very cool!!
  7. Taz is a whirling little dirvish type dude from Tasmania. Some think he came from King Island, others say Flinders Island. They all agree though that he's a pesky little bugger that will make off with any unattended kite he sees. Most to never be seen again. Legend says he travels the world searching for kites that catch his fancy. Upon his return home he stashes them in a hidden lair somewhere around Cradle Mountain. Many have searched for this mythical stash of kites. Some sadly have never returned.Oddly enough Robert Brassington the world renowned Tasmanian kite builder has never lost a kite to the Taz.This has led some to speculate that Robert himself may indeed be the dreaded Taz.Personally I think Taz just is just Taz. Having a tremendous amount of respect for his fellow countryman I think he's just chosen to leave Robert in peace.Be very wary of the Taz. He is very machine like in his kite acquisitions.
  8. Ever have one of those days?Winds nice, sun is shining and temps just right. Ya think boy oh boy this is gonna be good.Up ya go and blah.Timing is just sucky. Fly a bit and hey axles are good. 1/2 axles are coming okay.Maybe it'll just take a bit and the groove will come. Try a little bit but nothing much is clicking. Then ya lightly hit the ground in a position that you've hit a hundred times before with no ill effect.Horror upon horror the kite seems to disintegrate right before your very eyes. Dejected ya plod towards the workbench mumbling about how bad the day has turned.Put the poor mangled thing on the bench and bang , viola, epiphany. If fixed differently then the last 5 times it'll be better than new.Joy ensues with lots of smiles until you realize it's going to take FREAKING FOREVER for the needed stuff to arrive.Relearned lesson of the day? Better to feel impatient than dejected. Poor Hydra 😧. Love that kite and it's owed a good refurbish.
  9. Okay now I got to put together some kites side by side and REALLY look at the BMK Mongoose. Extremely pleased with it. The Mongoose feels very silky to me and haven't understood why.Now maybe I will 😊.Took awhile but I got a descent Pfaff 1122 for $58.00.Needed a good cleaning so I followed some you tube tutorials. Doesn't have the walking foot but that can be bought.I think a lot of the newer model machines plastic parts are to eliminate the need for most oiling. Some of it's cost but some makes sense ,weight etc..Some of the older machines(60s,70s) I researched that were on the list were White from England, Singers made in the U.S.and Canada and the Kenmores made in Japan. Some really nice ones in my area for less than $100.00. Going back to the 40s and earlier some are just stunning to look at.Went the Pfaff route because of the popularity amongst kite builders and not knowing a thing. The 1122 is considered fast for a newbie and have found controlling it a little difficult. Won't be long and that won't matter.Should last a good while. Been looking for a large sewing cabinet to make feeding easier. Lots of smaller ones at good prices. The bigger ones get a little pricey. My sewing room got delayed but it won't be long. Watch the classified free section. Amazing how much free glass pops up for your cutting table.
  10. The Grid from Air One uses the G Force skinny.A lot of differing opinions on them. Not a love it or hate it thing. Seems to me more kite specific and style of flying kinda thing.Makes it a bit confusing trying to figure out if I'd like them on any given kite.Leaning more towards the 2 panel Arrow because of the Sky Shark framing. Seems like 1/2 the kites flown in competions throughout Europe are R-Sky. Got one more kite to get and then a Superfly. Going for the standard but really curious on the ul reframe.Do not like the mylar on my Zephyr much at all. I'll be staying away from kites with mylar unless being used to beef up a TE like on the Hydra. Mylar panels sure look pretty in the sky though.IMAGINE a back lit Tiger racing by at 80mph made totally of mylar. Jaw dropping I would think.
  11. Believe I got this right(asked)but maybe not. The rise in material cost, decline in kiting interest and the price point of both kites made production unprofitable. Asian price points are hard to compete with no matter what one builds. Sucks cause I'd like to have both in sul. Believe we lost the Inak and Nik Nak for the same reasons.Prism 4d the culprit? Not a brown nose here but looking around the globe at prices the Kaiju is impressively low. Keep looking for a tricky PDSUL replacement. Keep going back to the Air One kites. The indecision here is getting to me a little. Won't be that many 0 wind days around here for awhile though. If it takes until April 1st hope I don't fool myself.
  12. Today was the day. OH MY is a GROSS understatement. Good time on my vented till 25. Horsed it around a bit until 30. Got out the Delta Hawk. Wowsers. Measured 37,38 and 39 while flying. After I put everything away heading for the shed measured 43 mph. Think I got 30 minutes in the air right around 40. Kinda terrifying. That's why it was so much freaking fun. Got my stones in order, wound up the kite and crossed center window 3 times.OMG fast.Do believe I now hold the fastest kite record. Well in Yoder anyways. I think. Didn't see any other kites so at least the record for fastest in the air today. Dang near face planted once. Rest of the time zipping around the edge, winding it up and turning back before hitting full on power zone. Good thing that kites tough. Boy is it ever.My Prism Micron was a complete snooze fest compared to the Hawk. Gonna take some serious time on the lines before moving to the faster speed kites.Less pull will definitely be something sought after. Even the Whizz pulls less(Addict Kites). Kept thinking about the warning for Spiderkites Neon 1.2 foil when starting to buy. Wound up the Hawk just off TDC slightly into the power. Came screaming down at about 8 o'clock. Lost it and BLAM!!! Really good chance that impact would have blown out the Neon.Super glad I have the Hawk to learn this aspect of kiting. It is now 2nd nature to walk around the wind window when resetting a kite above 15 mph. GOOD THING!!! Being in the path of that little monster or the lines would be zero fun in today's winds.I place the kite away from center. Then walk around in that same direction. If for some reason the kite self launches it will have the tendency to go towards the power zone. Don't count on it though. Few extra steps is good for me.Winds will still be high early AM. Hope to do it again tomorrow. IF I can walk then LOL.
  13. I too like Fudge but after Turkey Day I've had enough LOL.Wound my lines individually until I get the routine down. Monday I got invited to join the Mile High Kite Club. Going to be GREAT flying with others. Some are quad fliers and I'll learn a ton. When learning to fly duals I was okay with the damage part of learning.Actually looking back less then I had anticipated. No one sugar coated the learning pains.Think people should have prepared me a little more on how addicting this stuff is though.Don't know how anyone could have done that but still it's kinda rough. DO NOT want to go thru the dang it broke AGAIN quad learning curve very much at all. I got my 1.5 with the mind set that it would be a learning kite. Soon as I got it changed my mind. To nice and to old to bang around. I have a huge sentimental attachment to the B series already. Making it look like my Hydra within its first year would be a awful thing. Yesterday flew in 20 to 25 mph winds. Got into it pretty good but only lasted a hour and a half. Winds went a little higher in the afternoon. Sissied out cause I wanted to fly some today too 😁. Winds will be 25 to 30 this afternoon. Forecast 30 to 45 with gusts to 65 by late evening. Full moon and no clouds would make for one wild night of flying 💃. Have got to learn this quad stuff so I can go all hardcore. Video of JB flying the Djinn in 35 mph is going to be awesome. Hoping when possessed by the spirit of the Djinn it influences me towards the good flying.Dive bombing my unsuspecting Alpacas with it seems kinda evil. Would be REALLY fun though.
  14. Well I don't know about this quad stuff still. Line set was awful.Seemed like every unwrap of the winder there was a snarl. 2 hours later then started undoing the mess on the left side of the bridle. 45 minutes later equalizing lines. One was off by more than a foot.No wonder that kite is in just about pristine condition. Couldn't be flown like that. Winds maybe hit 5 mph for a 1/2 hour. Went up for about 3 seconds, veered to the right and soft crashed. Put the B together.Man was it nice everything went together smooth.Well once I figured out (unlike the 1.5 ) the leading edge is a different size 🤯. 4 hours and no air time but hey that's kiting. If it doesn't teach one at least a modicum of patience and self deprecating humor one will quit or go broke buying parts. Winds will be going 20+ the next couple days so no Rev practice. Really like the B series color. Lot nicer up close then in the pictures.

Played with the Solus colorizer till I was blue(maybe green) in the face. Getting close to the build . Now I'd rather Jon T does what strikes his fancy at the time. If I have to choose I will but I haven't seen a ugly one yet. I like to bring the colors in towards the center so it gives a eyeball effect.Polo's colorizer allows for that too. Maybe I spend to much time with Lam eyes looking at me LOL. To my eyes your Phoenix draws me towards center also. Designs like that give me the illusion of movement when sitting still.
  16. Picked up the Rev today. Spent the day in the city so no flying. Winds are forecast for 5 mph tomorrow for late morning and afternoon. Should be nice winds to start getting a feel. I've spent a year building muscle memory for duels. Going to take a little concentration keeping that at bay.Might need to write on the back one hand"laugh dummy laugh". The other"it's not the kite stupid". Hopefully I won't need to tattoo it LOL.

GREEN!!! I want one in purple and pink though. Well maybe purple and silver. Dang maybe neon green and yellow. Really starting to hate colorizers. Well maybe not. They are a lot of fun. Then again they waste a lot of time. On the other hand though.Whoops I digress.Seeings how it's you and not me LOL I'd get the green one for sure(pretty sure). GREEN!!!
  18. I have gotten used to walking back and forth this last year 😣. Good for the ego LOL.It's taken a while to get comfortable on my 120' and 125' sets. They're LPG and the nicest lines I have. Today winds were 0 to 4 with just a few minutes above 5 mph at times. On the 120' x 50# flying my Tekken sul. It was really comfortable. Tekken is not so good under 2(stated 2 to 12 mph) and spent about a hour out of 3 bouncing on the ground.Quads on 80' x 90# to start does seem the prudent move. The 120' flying with others is a definite goal. Got to try and be good enough for next years mega fly at WSIKF. If not helping out on the ground would be a blast too. You seem happy with OSK lines Wayne. That a good place to start or LPG/Shanti best to start on. Did not know how much more critical the wraps would be on a quad Makatakam. Makes sense now that I have to think about it. Kinda leary of using my older Laser Pro Competition set now.
  19. Kinda feel like I did. All the great stuff on this forum PLUS this. Gonna have to stay here for at least ten more years so I won't feel like a thief.Got 5 grandkids out today. Showed them the picture of the kite. Much excitement. Took a bit for them to understand it wasn't here yet LOL. Couple immediately took off for the kite shed and had to go retrieve them.28 degrees F with freezing fog. Moms said no flying today. NO ONE brought warm enough clothes GRRRR.
  20. Overkill but I got 80' x 150# Laser Pro Competition. Old but I think they are in good shape. Will work well for a Djinn Hard Core I hope. You are like a hurricane there's calm in your eye 🎶, wow I gotta stop!! Fly mostly on 100' with either Sky Dog 80# or HQ 130# lines. As I am getting better the switch to my LPG 120' and 125' is getting pretty dramatic.A lot smoother feel.ALWAYS seem to be adjusting my Prism lines and don't use them much anymore. Will be shopping for a spool of the 80# Shanti Speed. Think that will work best for the duels and for now the quads. When I get better Sky Bond for the quads is the plan. That's my thought but it is subject to change 😊.
  21. I've not traveled any long distance yet.Read a post from a guy that travels a lot. He uses the aluminium tubes for fishing rods. Seems like a great idea but would be pricey buying new for a bunch of kites.
  22. About a year ago someone said it is futile to resist. It is your destiny. Well dang I guess so. Went to a Breaking Benjamin/Five Finger Death Punch concert with my oldest son last Wednesday. Last night whistling Neil Young tunes. This morning wife, granddaughter and I were singing Eddy Arnold songs. Like kites one must have a variety to "Love the One You're With" 😁. Yesterday the great guitar player Roy Clark joined that great band in the sky ☮️. MAN could that cat play!!!
  23. You are absolutely correct fine sir on the reference 🎼 Flying does make one feel like one has a "Heart of Gold". Maybe flying one fine night under a "Harvest Moon" I'll name the Kite "Cortez" LOL.
  24. So I got this 4 line thing coming seemingly right out of the blue (sky ya know). Think it's called a Bev-R series or something like that.Don't have a clue on how to fly it. Does anyone know if there's any info or videos on such a kite? HA, HA, HA I just crack myself up. Think I'm going to enjoy the heck out of this part of the forum too.Oh nuts.Things just all the sudden got kinda dark around here. Fumbling and groping around looking for my wallet . Can't see a thing except kites dancing in front of my eyes 😟.
