Think you'll find out your Limbo is not a bad kite at all for a newbie. Think it's a decent high wind kite no matter your skill set.Would really like to poke fun at you.Saying things like DUH. No one did it to me so I'll refrain.Sunday was definitely another DUH moment for me. Had another one yesterday. I really don't want to remember how many DUHs I've had learning this stuff. Good thing is I've learned to laugh at myself like never before .

Kite Flying Locations on Big Island of Hawaii

If you do go to the top of Mauna Loa post some pics when you get home doing axles on the Mount McKinley summit LOL.Man I need to fly at the top of Pikes Peak.Any of you make it to Colorado Springs I'd be happy to drive you to the top. Might want to bring a small bottle of Oxygen. It is a 14 footer.Doughnuts up there are some of the best. -

Excellent site. I'll visit often. Governments and religions throughout history often divide us.Even in our own countries. It always amazes me how the arts bring us common people together.Even well done graffiti LOL. If maybe some one doubts kiting is an art they need to visit this site along with many others. In my country we're kinda spoiled(good thing for me). We want something we go buy it. Looking at all those kites that were home made is inspiring. We've lost a lot of the art of craftsmanship in my country(bad thing). Most of our young ones are not taught the true value of it.Myself included. If the science of mathematics is taught without the appreciation of the art of music an integral part of self is not explored. Remember Srinivasa Ramanujan.Lam Hoac starts making kites as a kid in Vietnam out of whatever he can find. Now one of the most highly regarded builders and fliers on the planet. Got 2 of his kites and I'll get another.Without those humble beginnings wonder if I would have ever heard of him. I can see myself buying a kite from a master builder in India. Some of the kites being pictured here are absolutely stunning. Hope I get to see someone from India gain global recognition soon. May he/she be building 2 line stunt kites 😁. -

Haven't been there in 14 years and didn't fly kites at the time.Went to the southern tip and spent the afternoon watching people fish along the weed line with kites. It was awesome. Mauna Loa has a shuttle to the observatories at the summit. That would be an incredible place to fly.1300 plus feet in the air so take a coat. -
A lot of Premier kites single and duals are designed by Wayne Brunjes and Jon Trennepohl. Jon owns Sky Burner kites which are made in the U.S. You'll here a lot about Sky Shark framing . Believe he has controlling interest if not all in Sky Shark. Had a Addiction that's been replaced with a Psycho. Grand kids still have one. Kites still a little fast for them. They prefer my Zephyr and Pro Dancer.Kite is a total blast to fly.Out of the 3 similar sized kites I've had it is the fastest followed by Nighthawk and Black Dog. Carbon framed like the Black Dog and a little tougher IMHO. I've broken 3 whiskers on the BD. If you got the parts simple fix that costs about 12 to 15 cents. Those 3 don't fit for your wants at all. Premier Widow ng is a good kite to read up on for a baseline. Then compare to other similar kites. If I were just starting out the newest Flying Wings Silver Fox 2.5 redesigned by Lam Houc would be high on my list. Don't pay that much attention to the UK market but like Premier I don't think Flying wings is in many of your kite shops. Bought and sold kites on GWTW and have not had a bad experience at all. Another option is to contact Krijn thru GWTW. He is a topnotch sail maker and flyer in Holland.Kareloh is another. Both have excellent videos and Icky TV is fantastic. Tell him what you're looking for and then let him lead you to a kite design. He can make you a sail and bridle. That saves on shipping and import costs. He'll tell you how to frame it. Then get your frame from a UK kite shop.Framing is pretty easy. You'd get a ton of help here and the other forums if you got stuck.Pretty sure Krijn wouldn't let you get stuck in the first place. You'd end up with a pretty sweet kite. If Sky Burner doesn't make some Widow Makers this fall or winter I'll be talking to Blue Moon Kites and Krijn for my next sul. I'd get 1 from both but budget constraints only allow for 1 at a time. I'll be getting my 1st true speed kite this winter too. Got all the parts just have to figure out which one to make.Oh and how to make it LOL

Had a Elliot Jet Stream Speed Reloaded. Not a trick kite. I was new and didn't do it justice.I got 9 different kite brands. Totally get wanting to try other brands.I had 2 kites that I'd sold to get a high end kite. Missed them so much I got replacements. One is a Sky Dog Black Dog. A lot of days I start out on it or my Nighthawk to settle me down a bit and get some focus. They're pretty fast 3/4 sized kites. Fly very different from each other, tricky and tons of fun. More I fly the Black Dog the more I like it. You have access to Sky Dog in the UK. I'm pretty impressed with the simple functionality of my Black Dog. Flown it to the top of it's stated wind range and lower than stated. They have 3 sizes of trick kites all framed in 6mm carbon which should make them very durable.Nice looking kites to boot.Should be very competent mid priced kites. If something happened to my Black Dog I'd get the Freebird(smallest) without much thought hoping it would be similar. They don't make the Black Dog anymore. I started on Premier kites and am kinda biased towards that and Sky Burner brand when recommending kites to someone. Just nearing the end of my 1st year but I read a lot 😊. A quad huh? Man that's a dark subject.I got a nice looking Rev 1.5 that I don't know how to fly yet. I'd say get some kind of Freilein, Kite Forge, Pollo, Bazzer, Revolution what Khsidekick said or something else. Another words I'm no help with quads AT ALL.Rain Monday. Snow Tuesday and Wednesday. Freezing fog till noon today and drizzled all afternoon. Been logged in all day popping in and out. Think I might be going a little stir crazy not flying for 4 days in a row. Still better than dealing with a hurricane though. Sheesh I better go for now.

Sunday I went up in very low winds. I'd go up and curve right back to the ground. Embarrassed to say this far into flying it took awhile to figure out my lines needed equalizing. Off by about 5 or 6mm. Makes a huge difference. The launch Exult describes is my favorite way to get in the air. The last link he posted I use the most.

OMG that looks like so much fun.Get to finally meet up with some buggy people this Sunday in Denver CO.Forecast is for 31 degrees so I'm hoping the cold doesn't cancel the fly. I got warm clothes and that to me is better than 100 degrees. They've flown with Tami Frazer who set a speed record at 58.8 mph on a buggy. I got a daughter that's got enough nerve to learn to do that. Don't know if I could cowboy up enough to get to 30 mph LOL. Sure want to try though.

After reading that statement I'd say you're forever hooked LOL.

Patience, persistence, precision. Ingraining the 3 p's has made my practice, practice, practice a lot more rewarding. Bought a sport kite for rehab and it has become much, much more. Kite junky should be a song title. After much contemplation the sound of one hand clapping is whoosh. I think 😕.Could be wrong though. Guess I'll have to think on it some more 🤔.

I did get the point. Thought it was written for our Scandinavian somnad flygblad LOL 🤣. Don't know how to get the dots above the o dang it.

This is one of the more outstanding things I've read about kites. -
Not sure what access you have to Premier but after much research my 1st kite was a Widow ng. I've looked at the Limbo a lot as a higher wind kite. As you get better I think that kite will teach you a lot in 20 plus winds. If you're going to stay with Prism the Hypnotist would probably be better. Limbo will take you thru the nose dive tricks that the Quantum excels at surviving. Kite World in the UK has the HQ Maestro 3 for 104.00 pounds.Going up in price the Zebra is top of the line.Pretty good reviews on both kites. Lots of people love the HQ Shadow. My HQ Delta Hawk is well built and I'll have it as long as I can fly the dang thing. It's named Wicked. Look at some of the cheaper Level 1 models and the Silver Fox line. For your skill set and where you live I think the Maestro 3 is a good choice. When getting my 1st kite it was #4 on my list behind Wolf ng, Widow ng, Hypnotist.Flying Wings Fox 2.5 #5 in that order. A lot more tricky than the Jive or Quantum so I've read. Widow was #2 because of cost. Most of the info I got on the Maestro came from UK fliers on GWTW and Fractured Axle. You can follow how it evolved from 1,2 and 3. The mods folks have done is good reading also. Not a lot of Freilein duels in the U.S. that I can tell except the OSK line. Outside the U.S. people seem pretty happy with them for the price. Mostly from China sellers.Got a great deal on a Mind Trick vented or I would have gotten the Freilein Challenger max from OSK.

My Tekken sul is rated 2 to 12, Zephyr 1 to 18. The Tekken handles gusty winds a lot better. I've flown it in 15 with no shake. Z I usually don't go over 12 anymore. Z feels very methodical to me. Almost plodding at times. The Tekken is more snappy and I can control the speed better. I broke the Zs LE trying a comete not realizing I had the line wrapped tight around the kite.Yanked trying to get out of the spin like on a insane and snap.Did that to 2 other kites till I figured it out. The LEs were broke trying tip drag to cartwheel. Did that to 3 other kites.Should have stuck to learning that trick on the Addiction and Black Dog. They have carbon rods.I'm at the point now where I don't try the trick intentionally. Doing a low pass if the setup appears I'll try it.Sure is a cool trick. Not breaking things as often now. As I get better I'll be able to do it more on purpose. Both kites came from the GWTW forum. Tekken well flown and taken care of.Z from a guy telling me about a sale and I got the kite new. They fly very different so it's easy for me to justify having both. I don't know about the quad thing in the higher winds. My thoughts always turn to a Vicki or thonged quad. I do know I have a blast between 20 and 25 on my Mind Trick vented.HONEST it will trick in those winds.Last week in 20 plus just left of center doing flic flacs nose dived so hard US and both LS popped out. The soft connectors on that kite can be a pain at times. When doing poor moves like that though they save the day. Got that kite 2nd hand here. Without the forums doubt I'd have any of the 3 yet. They're not cheap and rightly so. After my next Sky Burner I'll get a Benson. Benson Super Fly ul for sale at GWTW as of yesterday. I'm kite poor right now and my trade offer wasn't what the seller was looking for or I'd have it.

Well that's just GREAT 😡. Back to the Solus colorizer. Another color combo I wouldn't think I'd like but I do. Spend more time on those dang colorizers than I like to admit.

Whoa there Willy. I don't think we've ever met. Comparing me to a kite might be a little forward on your part 😂😁😀. I have a blast on duels in those winds. Got the broken parts to prove it. Without the forums probably would've quit months ago.Glad you came thru unscathed. Get a thong, go to 30mph and PLEASE post videos. The mantra I say to myself a lot is break it, fix it, fly it and repeat as needed. Keeps my nerve up.
-
Glad you're back to posting more. Like you've mostly had to do I'm learning this stuff from the web and flying solo. Your stuff is always inspirational.Acquiring the kites you have or have flown is a little disheartening though 🤣.

Got to talk to a experienced flier yesterday. He has and has had a bunch of kites. More of a quad flier now. In the short time he flew my Pro Dancer I was impressed with his skills. He thinks his Quantum Pro sul and hyper vented are 2 of the best kites he's flown. Speaks highly of the Zephyr but likes the earlier model over the later but not by much. Not sure what mine is. Zephyr is another kite I've thought about selling a lot to make room for a higher end kite. Still here. Think about selling it.Go fly it for the last time and back in the quiver it goes.It feels a lot like throwing away an old comfortable pair of shoes. Ya just don't want to do it.Very different than my Tekken sul. Most folks say the Z is a light standard more than a ul. All I know is it took a lot of hours , 2 broken spreaders and 3 broken LEs to be able to fly that kite in 1 to 2. Won't trick much that low but as Rob has said sometimes the trick is staying in the air. Moving from my Widow ng to the Zephyr was always a smooth transition. I've probably learned the most as a newbie on the Zephyr.Yeah I think I love that kite.

Yesterday flew my vented with some gusts getting close to 25. Got a small hole by the upper spreader wear patch that I had to redo. Did that and when I came back out winds were going 25+. Called it a day. Get to meet up with some of the Rocky Mountain Kite Fliers tomorrow. Refrained from flying the Hawk cause I REALLY want to fly with others. It's a 130 mile drive and I want to make it. Practiced some different stances yesterday and I'm pretty confident the Hawk won't beat me up like last time. Well up to 20 mph anyways. Went outside several times when winds were going over 30. Man was it hard not putting this little beast in the air. The 14th get to meet up with them again along with some buggy people. SUPER STOKED!!! Zipping along in a buggy at 80 mph would be scary, scary fun. I'd be totally freaking out and having a blast at 35. That close to the ground 35 would feel like 100 in a car.If winds are high Mon and Tue I'll fly the Hawk. I can recuperate by the weekend .

Love the concept. Very cool. Looks like a Mcquad to me but I wear glasses .

Opinion is from duel line flying only. Some days winds here are a rollercoaster. 5 to 20 and repeat. The kite at my skill level that I have the most trouble in those winds uses Sky Shark Black Diamond tubes.Very stiff and the kite powers up real fast. As I'm getting better becoming less of an issue but not by much. Most of the problem is my attitude when flying that kite. Want it to last. The kite that I have the most relaxed flights in those winds is vented with Dynamic framing.More flex, smoother and a lot more predictable in the gusts. Use a lighter lower spreader in winds below 20 and can fly it in 5 mph. Heavier spreader up to 35.I do get the dollars invested in a quad over most duels and the dread of breaking something. However these 2 are high end. In the duel world none better just different.Out of all my kites the vented cost the most but the one I'm least afraid to take risks with above 15 mph. More forgiving when making mistakes in 15 plus. It's already been said that reframing a duel is a pain. Except for maybe changing spreaders you get another kite. It's always fascinating following the discussions on interchanging quad frames.Very diverse opinions and most times by far no one is wrong.I guess what I'm saying is research what you think you need. Until you take the risks you won't really know what YOU need.Take a deep breath and go for it. If it breaks take another deep breath fix it and fly on. Take this with a grain of salt though. It's from a guy that doesn't know how to fly quads and is on his 4th bottle of c glue in 10 months. Having fun though😁.

Only read good things about that kite. Apparently it's got a right proper name. I'd probably be happy to just lick the kite. Not in front of anyone though . Especially in front of the owner . Actually no I'd refrain. That'd just be weird. Ah well back to the reading aspect of this kiting thing.
-
Very cool Grant. People like you is why I really need to get to some of these kiting events.

Winds are perfect for the Tekken sul. Gimping around for the last 6 hours and I don't think I'll be flying today.Snivel,whine,mutter.Thinking the Hawk might have kicked my butt yesterday 😖. I'd really like to fly a Thors Hammer or something like that. If in the next year or so I run across one of you flying a kite like the Thor please tell me to GO AWAY!! Throw things at me if needed. Nothing to hard or sharp please. By summer 2020 flying this little Hawk I should be ready though.

Iv'e taped and have had the pockets resewn at ITW by Brandon. The sewing was excellent when new and repaired. 2nd flight after repair right battan is out.Left is still intact. Still a novice so I can't tell a whole lot of difference if any.Very easy to do rollups on. I think it's more from the way I do them that loosens the battans.Still to hard on my inputs for now. The TE is lower than my other kites and I get excessive wear there also. Once again more from the way I'm flying now and where I fly. Out of the kites I've flown the Hydra gives me the most confidence to try new things and just go for it. Much like my time with the Premier Addiction it's a blast. Last time out I got out of my flying field and landed on a cactus. Now there are several little holes by the spine. Sigh I love this kite and it makes me sad to see the shape it's now in. Still flies great though. The fabric by center tee is taped from a big tear in a 20 mph wind nose dive. This winter my sewing will get good enough for a nice repair. After much research the kite that I think will be close to the Hydra and may be more for the style I seem to be developing is the Benson Superfly standard. Even at $225.00 the Hydra is a hard kite to surpass. At $112.50 I think it's the best deal I've seen so far. It's why I have one 😊.
