I too liked the green but would choose the warm. Had a warm Nighthawk that I didn't care for. Then I put it in the air. Wow!! I changed my mind quick. Much, much respect JB on how you're approaching your trip to Berkeley. Most folks wouldn't think about or have the regard for the effort of those promoting an event. Not saying they would be evil or anything just a little blinded by their ambitions. Happens at all kinds of events whether cars, airplanes ,electronics etc. As of yesterday I am kite broke for a short while. I've dipped my left little toe into the world of quads a wee bit. Instead of getting lines and handles for my 1.5 I got 2 more duels and some parts. My Rev is a 97 in A shape. It's going to be very educational learning on that kite and figuring out why the Djinn is the way it is. Next quad WILL be a Djinn vented. My black, red, and white one on the colorizer looks awesome !! I know, I know Dorts will cost extra .

There are 2 Prism Snapshot 1.2 foils on Ebay new for $45.00. Won't be much good over 25 mph with the stock polyester 55# x 85' lines. The 140 has the cheaper line set too. I've only flown my Snapshot 1.4 on the stock 150# x 100' lines. I do the best job on sleeving 😁. Took me 4 times to become an expert because 1 time it was 15 F outside. You can to can become a pro in just 3 frustrating lessons.I don't know enough yet to know what would work best for me either. For my duels I pick Speed cause I like that word better than Skybond. Got another TOTL C today. Needs a lower LE , whisker and some fairly major sail repair. Nose needs some work too. It'll be my first nose repair. Didn't steal it but close .Think it's worth getting back in the air. Going to be a fun project. Put 4 vents in it, gain about 25#s of muscle, 250# x 150" line set and it'd be a helluva beater in 35+ winds.
-
Yeah I did. Had to fund the WMP. Really happy ones coming back. New ones are getting rare. The Shanti speed at 150# is probably lighter than Chinese 90# dyneema or close to it. Pretty sure if you stayed under 15 on the ng Shanti or LPG 90# would hold up. Didn't have LPG when I had mine. As much as I've thought about it I still wonder why I don't have a 1.2 Spiderkite neon yet. Must be subconsciously scared or something. Get the beater kite thing. Got my Psycho dirt cheap. When I get done though my Psychos won't be beaters. They'll be high wind trickers.
-
Didn't to me. Understood completely. I'm tickled pink to have a TOTL C15 like Pam Kirk had when she became the 1st female champ. Pretty nervous letting my grand kids fly my Hydra and Zephyr. The kite they all seemed to do well on myself included was the Premier Nighthawk. Kite I have regretted selling the most. Brand new one will be here by Friday. Not sure if I'm an addict or just kite stupid. Probably both. Don't like to think about it.

I got a HQ 130# x 100' set that I like better than the stock ng lines. Don't think the quality is any better but I like the 100' length. Use it on my Hydra and WMP the most. Hoping it wears out soon so I can justify 1000' of 90# Shanti Speed. My Prism 100' x 150# is nicer. Got 150# 100" Laser Pro competition quad set that I haven't flown yet. My favorite lines are LPG in 120 x 50# and 124" x 90#. Flew the ng on Prism 90# x 82' below 10 but always got nervous above that. In low winds I'd take the ng weight out and with the 90# set could window hunt quite well down to 3. Don't know much about adjusting weights yet. Zephyr stays in most of the time. Played with different positions on the Hydra. Now in winds below 12 spacer is at top. Above they're all in and that's about it. Got a new 80' x 90# set that'll be here by Fri. Sadly they'll be attached to a brand new Premier Nighthawk. Jon T told me he thought Premier made a mistake stopping production of that kite. The one I regretted selling the most. Is the velcro not staying attached ? Never had a problem.

Ha but thanks for the compliment. Agree with Rob It's apples to oranges but I'll give it a go. Jewel,Wolf ng, Widow ng are Premiers spider series. Didn't have the Wolf but had the closely related Nighthawk. Widow Maker would be the crown jewel. There are some side by side comparisons of the ng and pro. The consensus seemed to be they were very similar in flight but better build quality on the pro. 3 to 5 mph real similar for me. Above that not so much. Steve Tapp tweaked the lower LE some when he was sewing for Sky Burner.Mines a Tapp sail and that could be why my experience is different. Ng sail loads slower and it's louder. More pull and it pushes thru the wind in very predictable rewarding way. For me not to much fun above 15 mph.Very deliberate flight. Pro is lighter on the lines and needs gentler inputs. Not as forgiving as the ng but is more responsive. When making mistakes close to or at center window you'd better react fast or you'll pay.Has 6 nose adjustments that I haven't got figured out yet. A lot of my kites I've flown depending on my mood. The pro can be adjusted to just about any mood I'm in from 3 to 23. Seems to slide thru the wind. Pro Dancer and Zephyr are more of a gliding type feel unless 10+ on the Z. Then it starts to drive. Tekken, Mind Trick and Hydra drive thru the wind no matter the speed. Neither feeling is better than the other. Just different. From what I've read the Bensons and similar kites have that sliding feel also.I maybe got to 20% of what my ng could do. For what it cost great value for any skill set. It's different enough from the pro that I could justify having both. Pro has the IT factor. Can't explain IT but you know IT when you feel IT. Got lucky and got the last brand new, never flown, Tapp sewn Widow Maker Pro for sale. What Rob said about the why he goes boutique at times applies to my WMP hands down. Worth a lot more to me then what I paid for it. Going to fly it till it can't fly no more. That's why it was built. I am in awe of my Widow Maker Pro 😻.

Took me a surprisingly long time to get to the flying with purpose. I have way to much fun flying with reckless abandon. 0 to 3 flying with a Pro Dancer has helped a ton. When I get to flying my quad I think what I've learned on that kite will help me understand what the hell you guys are discussing here. I do believe if all I had to fly over(input) was concrete I wouldn't have a kite left.

My intent this summer was to get a Benson Super Fly or Super Nova. Think I want both. Was very close to having the funds and a Lam Tekken sul appeared. Close several more times but some oldie but goodies showed up. Was very close again and Sky Burner is hoping to make some Widow Maker Pros and Solus this fall. On the list. Funds diverted to Solus standard and holding 😁. Now Lam is making the Fearless 2. Many people think the Fearless is the best kite they've flown. I've got 2 of his kites and am struggling to not divert funds to a Fearless 2 light vented. Very pricey but I believe as in a Benson you get more than what you pay for. Got a Rev 1.5 but haven't flown it yet. Kind of afraid to. Like it and I'll have a Polo,Bazzer,Fulcrum ,Djinn , ABS living in the barn with a stupid grin on my face. For me I want to be a duel line trick master. Solus, a Benson and Fearless 2 are on my short list. Never flown one of Tims kites but I will. 2nd on the Benson. My kites touch the ground a lot cause I push way beyond my abilities. I know I'm getting better because the repairs are less frequent. You would think that higher priced kites would make a person more careful. Nope. They make me try even harder. Love my Ferraris (kites).

You can take some tape and wrap the female end a few time to strengthen it. That's been done to my Mind Trick vented. Iv'e had it in 30 + winds and haven't broke anything yet cross my fingers. Helps that I don't crash as much.Put the c clips 3" from end of tubes. Make a loop in both ends of your bungee small enough that it fits snug over the c clips. Make the bungee length so it's snug not tight. If you do break the LS and don't mind the extra cost replace with Nitros. I never did the mod on mine. The last time I broke the Widow ng spreader was trying a comete. Wrapped the line around the kite with line above the roll up.Yanked not knowing where the line was and pop. Took awhile to figure out what to do in that spot. Broke the Hydra and Zephyr LS doing the exact same thing. Now I put kite on back and rotate away from the wrap. If I can't do that go to ground in a controlled crash. Been working so far.

Thinking the last 2 weeks has been the most miserable non productive time in my kite flying life (some fun though).Could be an exaggeration but I don't know.Temps have been mostly 95+. Couple cooler days but lightning became an issue. I'm a fan of Mr. Franklins but flying a kite when lightning is around is kinda stupid. Last Sat. morning 10 year old grandson and I went out early AM. Little over an hour in Midget Fade rattlesnake came wandering across the flying field. Spooked the boy pretty bad. Fades are a light green this time of year and hard to see. 5 to 6 feet from it before we saw it. He was done 😓 . Later that evening we went back out. Got to the gate that exits the yard and there was another. No convincing him after that. 4 in the flying field this year but so far only the 1 in the yard. Sorely needed rain next 2 days and he had to go home. Boys getting good and it sucks we couldn't really get going. 3 came out Tue. for a few days. Could not BELIEVE they left their kites at home. Was really looking forward to flying their Addiction. When I asked why they didn't bring theirs they said why we came to fly yours 😲.Winds were really light so we flew the Zephyr. Grand daughter is 7 and has flown the Hydra pretty well. Broke her arm a couple weeks ago so she didn't fly the 1st day. 2nd she couldn't stand it and had a good go. The boys are 6 and 9 and I was pleased with how much they have learned. Both can belly land nose away pretty well. Can't relaunch the landing yet but they're getting close. By early afternoon near 100 F and I was toast. Badger dug under 2 fences that night and ate my gander. 13 years old and was quite the loss for all of us. He was excellent with people. Next morning we got 2 more geese (Swan Geese). Flew the Z that afternoon and nothing broke 😀. Amazing!! Near 100 again and I pooped out on them in a few hours. Swear I drank 5 gallons of water and nothing came out the other end. Up and out at dawn. Winds were up so Snapshot and Black Dog time. Had a blast but by noon close to 95 and I was done. Then they left. Today out early on the Pro Dancer. 1/2hour switched to Tekken SUL. 1/2 hour later on the Widow. GRRR wind. Little over an hour and it was getting vented time. GRRR wind. Took a little break. Went back out 93 and rising. Wasn't noon yet and I was done. Supposed to cool a bit the next few days cross my fingers. 95+ I'm not flying so well.Swear I'd rather fly in 20 degree 20 mile an hour wind than 10 mph and 100 F. You desert rats may have a different opinion.

Grand kids still got a green one. Upgraded to a Widow Maker Pro and a couple Lam kites. Was going to replace it with the Addiction Pro. Got kite poor due to some couldn't pass up deals.Bought a Flexi Foil Psycho that fills the Addiction spot nicely. Plus a Rev 1.5 and TOTL C15. I'm on the list for a Sky Burner Solus that'll hopefully be here before Thanksgiving. If I keep this up I'm going to have to go pan a handling to get my Addiction Pro. Still one of my favorites.

Now you know why I think the $4.00 I gave Kites and Fun Things was money well spent LOL.

Since I got my Tekken SUL my Zephyr has been a bit neglected. When first flying it all the negative things I'd read about it not being a true UL but more a light standard seemed true. As Iv'e gotten better the kites usable low range has dropped to 2 to 3 mph. Winds were roller coasting today from 0 to the highest measured at 16 mph. Stayed on the Z with stock line set. Thought about getting lighter spreaders but haven't and probably won't because of my other kites. I've flown my Tekken in 15 mph plus gusts on 50# lines but I'm heading to the edge in a hurry. Close in size to the Z but the pull is a lot lighter. Think the Z or Pro Dancer SUL could break the 50s at 8 to 10. For me the Z has been a very methodical learning process. No great epiphanies just very rewarding as I progress. For example today I did a combo sequence I'd never done before. What The, into Oh No,directly to the LOOK OUT ending on the WOW Lucky,Lucky,Lucky. Great fun.Changing the frame just a little can change a kite for the bad more often than for the good I've heard. BUT being a poor student it couldn't hurt to much to try. Sky Shark P200 spine , lighter spreaders and a 50# x 80' Shanti line set might get you what you're looking for. I wouldn't go any lighter on the spine because of the weight of the rest of the kite and balance issues .That opinion is from reading not experience. I've got LPG 50#x 120' but they say Shanti is thinner, lighter and stronger. Shanti will be my next 50# x 80' and then I'll have more nerve to fly the Z on 50s. Should be even better from 3 mph down. If the frame mods don't work out for you build a kite that has the same spine and spreader specs or a little smaller.Spent some of my kite fund recently buying a few older kites. Thought about selling the Z quite a bit to fund a boutique UL. Glad I haven't and don't think I will any time soon if ever. Kite demands patience and a easy touch from me below 4. Taken awhile to learn that but well worth the effort.

Goodwinds Composites in MT Vernon WA. Paul DeBakker works there and he's a master flier and designer.Helping you with the Wind Cheater might get those folks a bit excited. You could be a test monkey for their new tubes on a older design.Looked at Kitebuilders and GWTW briefly but no luck. I don't go to kitebuilders much (for now). I get lost and lose focus on what I need to be learning now(flying). Post your question on both of those sites too. My bet is it's not that long of a shot. I seem to be reading more about older kites lately than new ones. Starting to get a glimmer of the how and why some things have changed while others not so much. Keep us posted. I'll be following with much interest.

From what I've read below 2m yes. Above that kite shape starts coming more into play for the kites purpose. How the surface area is measured can be different between a power, traction or static flying kite. Riffclown posted a really good breakdown that was pretty easy for me to follow (before you ask which power kite should I buy). Search aspect ratio in the forums search engine and a bunch of good stuff will come up about all kinds of different kites.

I'm in the same boat as Makatakam. Have Prisms snapshot 1.4 foil and Zephyr stunt kite. Completely satisfied with the quality and flight of both. Watched some you tube of the Radsail. Can see why you're looking for something a little smaller 😲. That'd wear me out in 5 minutes. Maybe sooner. I wouldn't think the attachment points make much of a difference. Both are proven designs. There are people here who fly the quad foils and have a blast. Great videos. The Radsail video I watched was a Quad. If I were to go bigger than my 1.4 I'd get a 4 line. More fun. Another option for you and your kids are the high speed foils. 1.2 m speed foils might be of interest to you.Be something different than you have. Spiderkite neon will be my next foil. Not much pull, rated to 40+ mph and clocked at 120 mph. Draw back is crashing at high speeds and blowing out the baffles. Not much help to you but welcome and have fun with whatever you choose.

That is over the TOP nutty !! Can't even imagine being that far out there. Shudder, quiver, shake 👽

Lucky man!! Enjoy. My time with a Widow ng was awesome.

Got a 1.5 Rev UL that should be here by Tuesday. 4 panel ,white center, with straight logo . Believe that makes it a 1997 model. Think it's in really good shape. No fraying or damage that I could see in pics. Should I send it to JB for reinforcements and whatever upgrades there may be. Does that make sense with a UL? Will I benefit a lot by upgrading the bridle so soon into the learning curve? Lead upgrades asap for sure. Leaning towards ITW Freilein handles and 90# x 82' line set.$65.00. 120' x 90# Sky Bond will have to wait. Maybe 3 wind handles are better or getting the Revs and doing the Stone in the Shoe mod. Thinking I should get 15" even though 13" seems to be recommended for newbies and the faster kites. Last week I was grounded in 30+ winds.Looking at high wind speed kites and plans I kept thinking about the Vickie. Thanks for all the Vickie posts and pics(dripping sarcasm)sending me down this dark, dark path. Decided I needed to start with this kite. Looked for 1 I could hole or thong . Won't be doing that to this one though. All I know to start is upper line out at farthest point with kite inverted. Move the top line back on knots until launch. Turn kite right side up and immediately Flic Flak while rotating into a tip stand.Relaunch to hover 15' up. Axle and repeat. Should take about 10 minutes or so to get the hang of it .

My 19' delta scared the wee woggins out of me. But I'm a sissy so I sold it.

Got my rip stop sail material from china. Real cheap. If your going for a high end frame and sail Kites and Fun Things would be a good place to start. Fly market has good prices and some really good sales at times.Ali Baba has good prices on Crystal tubes. They're in a lot of Freilein kites I believe. LM Toys in Malaysia has some amazing deals sometimes. From reading and looking at completed builds I think you're on the right track with the Le Quartz. Most days my winds are not very stable unless high. My best kite for roller coaster winds is the Mind Trick vented by far.It has a DT 10 and a DT 12 LS for different wind conditions. It'll fly in 4 to 35 mph. Trick from 5 to 25. I don't recall any Le Quartz vented kites. How to vent has many opinions. The one I value most comes from Sky Sport Design. He designs a kite and figures out where to vent after he's done. Doesn't design specifically for vents. He posts on GWTW as Fearless Object. Interesting discussions on his kites.Read up on the Fearless Light vented. Widest tricking wind range of any UL I've read about. If forced to have 1 kite I would get the Fearless 2 light vented and a 2nd stronger frame to swap out in higher winds. Like 25+. Using your school equipment and access to aerospace minds venting a Le Quartz could be pretty quick to figure out. Put vent covers and wind brakes in the design. A Sky shark P 200 frame with a 3pt LS could get you a 2 to 15 mph range. With vents and brakes up to 20 with bumpy winds being smoothed out. I have that frame in a SUL that flies in 2 to 15 pretty easy. It's tough.Sweet spot is 3 to 10. Had it a little higher in gusts but not a smart thing to do.Took to that kite faster than any kite I've flown. 1 kite won't do it all but with good planning I think building your own Le Quartz could get you damn close. Karelah and Krijn have some excellent vids, pics and posts on the Le Quartz. Keep us updated in your progress. It'll help motivate me to get back on my sewing machine 😊 📐.

My sincere apologies and regrets to those of you trying to contain your kite accumulating jitters. Flew right on past nuts and now approaching kite 🤪. Next kite should be here by Tues. Dipping into my Super Fly fund pretty hard.

Wayne it sounds like you have the same reaction to the Psycho that I get with the Addiction. Got the kite today and it's in a little better shape than I thought. Solid B. Put the upper spreader in and started giggling. I think this kite is going to be a ton of fun. Thought I was getting new LPG lines but no. To good to be true. LP competition quad set in really good shape. No complaints but deal went from platinum to gold. Seeing how the sail tensions to the nock might be where Lam, Tim and others got their inspiration. Going to make it like my Tekken and Mind Trick. Hole is pretty big where the bungee goes thru LE so maybe a grommet. Thinking of doing that to the Sky Sports too.
