  1. Man I'm hitting that danger zone where I've learned enough in the last few months that now I think I might know something. I think it's called being donkey brained. Maybe just ASS.
  2. If you post some pics of the LE someone will know.If not here GWTW. There's a mod you can look up at GWTW for the standoff. Supposed to take out some of the risk of a puncture. I read that the heavier frame takes 7 to 8 to fly. 1 version is rated 3 to 25.Really like that color scheme. Man ANOTHER kite I got to read up on. When redoing your bridle someone has probably come up with a better one over time. Going to make my 1st bridle soon for a Psycho. Not sure yet if it'll be a 3 point or 4. I don't know enough yet so I had the bridle of my TOTL checked out at Into the Wind.Paul thinks it's okay. Got to learn though cause where you going to find these old bridles.
  3. Thought about selling my Z after I got the Tekken. Very glad I didn't. Hadn't flown it for awhile but the last few light wind days it's been out. It's easy to forget how smooth the Z is. The Tekken has a more edgy feel for me. I like that a lot but the Z is very comfortable and forgiving. Learning and completing tricks doesn't feel like I'm about to blow things up.Still do though. It's funny how you adjust to different kites. I seem to fly the Z with longer steps, longer pulls with a somewhat bouncy movement. When I'm on it's like gliding around the field. Tekken short quick steps, a lot more wrist movements and I seem to go from stance to stance. Find myself hopping at times. Pretty odd compared to how I fly my other kites. Could be those eyes give me the illusion I'm under attack and must prepare accordingly. Mom and sister live in Granite Falls WA. Visiting them will be a good excuse to go fly on a beach. From here to there going thru Portland instead of Yakima isn't that much difference. From Portland to Vancouver BC besides you and Jack there's about 30 people I know of I'd sure like to fly with. These kites keep showing up. It's like a affliction or something. Got a helluva deal on a Rev 1.5 today. Probably won't learn to fly it though cause now I'm to poor to buy the handles and line set 😢. It never ends does it.
  4. Flooding sucks. Glad it wasn't worse for you folks. The silver lining looks fantastic!! Very cool you've rediscovered something you've had for so long.Looks fast. American Kite Magazine says the Griffin should be in the hall of fame. Kite had 3 different frame configurations. Which do you have?
  5. Never heard of the Burnout. Something to keep in mind. Really excited about the Psycho. This is the kite that will jump start me into building my own kites. The Psycho should be a ongoing project for along time. I think this is one of the 1st modern type tricksters. Maybe it's kites like this that made fliers be able to pinpoint what they wanted a little easier. Meaning that as designs have evolved changing a Zephyr or Widow doesn't make much sense. You'd have to be really, really good to better those kites. The more I fly the Tekken, Mind Trick and Widow Maker the more differences I'm seeing. One is not better than the other. Just different. Lots of possibilities in the Psycho for a newbie to explore.Still don't know much of the why in kite aerodynamics(panel layouts etc).Read a ton but until I actually do it most info hasn't really sunk in. Pretty fair understanding of frames. Sails? People have been tweaking them before written history.Having and working on one of the 1st trick sails to compare to my others should help a lot.My TOTL is so different than my other kites I haven't gained the insight I thought I would when comparing them. I put the TOTL and a Lam next to each other and all I can think is this must be some kinda wicked MIND TRICK 😲. TOTL different beasts . Okay not completely different 🐪🐫.

    How and why

Wife's a nurse. Calling her Nurse Ratchet does not go over well 🤐 Look sweety it's a really good deal. Are you crazy? You don't need another blankity blank kite. Stooopidly I reply "Well don't go all Nurse Ratchet on me". Then ducking I grab my pillow, blanket, kitty cat and haul ass to the couch. It's really not that bad but I have to be very, very careful. VERY!!!
  7. I've watched these videos a lot. Entertaining and the instruction is clear and concise on every trick shown. The fun going on is contagious and makes me smile every time . After watching these videos I've read up a bit on the Psycho and the different mods. Steve Tapp loved the kite so much he made his own with different versions of bridles and frames. He never found it's upper wind range having flown in mid 30's.No vents. Think he said Devon tricked the heck out of it in 20 to 25 at the 2013 Grand Haven festival. Got some rereading to do. Maybe someone here saw that. That's Devon though not me 😞. Yesterday winds were a roller coaster. 2 to 3 and came slamming in at 15+. Very bumpy. Was flying pretty aggressively so stayed on the Hydra. Mind Trick vented is so much better when I'm calmer and more calculating.Hitting 22,23 called it a day. Missed my Addiction a lot. Type of day that is perfect for that nut job little kite. Last night thinking about this video and posts on GWTW made a offer on a Psycho. $45.00 + $13.00 shipping has gotten me a Psycho that needs a LS, some bridle tweaks, a little TLC and 2 never used 100' x 150# LPG line sets. SUPER STOKED . Miss that radical flight of the Addiction. Psycho should fit the bill nicely and then some. If I've done my research correctly this is my 1st project kite and it should never leave. Wear it out and build another while doing so is the plan. P.S. The hairdos leave some thing to be desired though. Proper haircuts consist of hair to the waist with a nice braid down the center of ones back 🤨. Makes me feel very Samson Like LOL.

    How and why

Here's something kinda silly that might be fun. Name 5 of your favorite movies that illustrate your perception of how and the reasons why you fly. Clockwork Orange, Natural Born Killers, Fried Green Tomatoes, Something About Winn Dixie and Princess Bride. Yeah I know to much time on my hands. Interpret my choices as you will. It's a Catch 22 (one of the funniest movies ever)kinda thing 😈.
  9. Clam skewer. What else could it possibly be LOL.
  10. Yeah strategy has had some adjustments. Couple kites showed up seemingly all on their own.Fortunate enough to fly most days. The drawback is not a disciplined strategy on trick learning that others acquire by having less time on the lines. My bad but it does make for some wild and crazy fun flying 😹. Winds hitting 32 kph +.Close to 2 hours of that on a vented and needed a break before something broke. Seem to break things more often when getting fatigued.Imagine that. Seem to care less and less about the repairs as time goes on. That's probably a little nuts too. Fly it, break it, fix it and fly it again.
  11. Thought about this a bit. Waiting for the glue to set up on my Hydra so I can go back out. Lost another do hickie. Experience has shown me they're a pain. Back to plastic tubing. Hey it's stock on my Sky Sport kites. Seems to have a little more Kush to the push. Gusty winds are 50% or more are part of flying here. One minute 5 next 20. Sometimes even more extreme. Without the wraps doubt line would've broke at 12 on the Tekken SUL. Quality lines might not of either. I calculate the risk at the low end. Heavier lines dampen the low end and I'd rather risk the gust for more enjoyment. Broke 90# at 82" and 125' at kite when gusts banged 25 + before I could get to edge. Same on 130# at 30+. 150# on Widow ng around 20. Tekken has flown in 15 mph on LPG 120' x 50# with no singing. Stunning kite. I'll continue to risk my lines for the low end flight. Destroying my 80' x 50# lines was pure D LAZY. Probably do it again sigh.Hard headed that way. Sure is fun though 😀.
  12. Could be when you pass along kites to get another. Then you want the ones you let go back.

    Icarex

Surprisingly my favorite so far. Excellent name. What a honey 😍.
  14. Procrastinated way to long getting a 80' x 50# line set. Hadn't had it to long and was using it on the Tekken sul and Pro Dancer. Winds had been blustery all day. 0 to 3 and bam 12 to 15. Then back to the bottom. Flew the Hydra this morning when winds weren't bumping to the top so much. Weights in on 130# lines. To lazy to drop weight, get a 90# set and do the footwork. Got the Tekken and 80' x 50# set instead. Early afternoon winds went more to the higher side and fairly bumpy. Still dropping to near 0 but not as often. Started thinking I'd better switch kites and line set. Naw it'll be okay for a few more minutes (long walk? No!!) Tried a comete. Went insane instead. Pulled out with a lot of line wraps. Winds were probably around 12 and bumpy. Very pleased once again I'd done a trick coming out of a mistake. Even started whistling a bit. Going up I started spinning to snap stall undoing the wraps. Went the wrong way. Line broke about 50' out. Now I'm back procrastinating on another 50# set. All my life being lazy has never panned out.EVER!! Sure do enjoy it at times though. Just not today .
  15. I'm in. Miss the one I had and this one probably has some kinda cool joo joo vibe going on.
  16. I am not a kite nut. Denial is the 1st step to denial. Number acquired doesn't have to mean you still have them.1 to 3 learning, getting good and still stable. 4 to 25 lost it a bit. Get the shakes when you look at another kite.Lots of agonizing counting pennies and doing research. Becoming dedicated to the craft. 26 to 50 you've gone nuts. See a kite you MIGHT like. Boom it's yours. Know more than you ever thought there was to know. How any sail loads or unloads makes perfect sense at a glance. Kite configurations cross your mind hourly.Permanent grin on your face when grabbing a kite even when there's no wind. 51 plus ? TOTALLY DEDICATED !!! Learning and sharing all things kites has become embedded in your soul. You might be nuts at any stage though if you think it'd be worth the trip to fly at a pink lake. 🌰🥜s.
  17. I fly the Hydra the most because I get excited and try things I'm not good at yet. It's tough, fast and I seem to have a better chance of correcting because of speed. That could just be a false perception though. Outer battens are stressed mostly from roll ups. Where I fly is fairly rough. No rocks but stubborn vegetation would be accurate. The spot is called a Playa. Different then the surrounding pasture. Have 2 on my property. In wet years filled with water by now. Not this year which sucks. No frogs, toads or dragonflys. Won't be very many migratory birds coming by this fall.Having to adjust to the day is one of the most appealing aspects of kiting. Slide stall practice and 1/2 axle attempts daily no matter the wind.
  18. Flew the Hydra yesterday in pretty bumpy and gusty winds. Nothing above 5 was smooth and increased throughout the day. When gusts started hitting 25/26 mph I quit. Way above the Hydras wind range but hey what can I say.Should have went vented but I was in a damn the torpedoes kinda mood. Kite is quick and above 12/13 gets really quick. Tons of fun. Thinking about this post while flying I have to agree with the advice that bigger and slower would be best. I've only flown a Vision twice. Had fun but the Widow ng is a major step up. That would be my choice. A lot of good reviews from excellent fliers on the Silver Fox 2.5. Don't know of any other kites in that price range that are that good. Another plug for the Widow ng is your access to Kites and Fun Things. If you want radical the Premier Addiction is a blast for not much money. Fast, tricky and tough with a wide wind range. Haven't flown the Pro. Should be a little better. Maybe a consideration for your 3rd kite 😊. Was fortunate to have the Addiction, Nighthawk and Widow ng at the same time. Very different kites. Sucks I couldn't keep them when moving up the food chain. Out of the 3 the Widow took me the furthest.
  19. GRRR going to go do 1/2 axle attempts. Again!!!!!!!!!
  20. I had the Nighthawk which evolved into the Wolf ng. Really liked my Nighthawk a lot. From what I've read the Wolf is a little better. After a ton of research my choice for my 1st kite until I found a Widow ng at a great price. Liked the Widow ng so much I sold it and the Nighthawk for a Widow Maker Pro. I would choose my Hydra over the 2 but not the Widow Maker. Not even close. I fly the Hydra a lot but it has some flaws for a newbie like me. I was warned and do not regret having the kite at all. The cut out for the center tee is to small. Nose dives lead to stress and tears. Easy to repair and reinforce though. I've lost the outer batten. Been replaced and reinforced on both sides by Brandon at ITW. He also reinforced the TE where it had been worn in a couple places and leach line was showing. Better than new. Had rip stop tape on the weak points cause my sewing still sucks. A top notch flier would probably not have had these issues or at least not so soon. Except the battens. Agree with KF. Look at the Hydra and Kymera. Best deals out there . There have been some really nice kites at GWTW the last couple weeks.
  21. Being 57 also and just starting out I feel the same about flying no matter the wind. Have duel line quiver for 0 to 30 now and a bag of busted parts.Wind was fantastic this morning. This afternoon hit 40 mph. Man I need another high wind kite.(Spiderkite Neon 1.2 soon) Don't regret the cost of kites or parts because I'm having a blast.Lament a bit but that's just my sophisticated way of whining about it . Started late and a lot to learn in a short time. Acrops advice about 50# lines is spot on.Waiting for winds just drives me nuts but I'd probably be better with a few more kite dollars to spend.2 months in I got a Prism Micron that comes with 50' x 50#. The line set was a disaster in my hands. Snarled,,twisted and snagged that line till one day I destroyed it having fun in 20 to 25 mph winds shaking the heck out of the Micron. Used it on my Pro Dancer and Zephyr also. Just sucked. Swore 50# line was a waste of money and time.No it was me. Few months ago got a LPG 50# x 120' and go figure I love it. Use it on my Pro Dancer SUL and Tekken SUL. Yesterday got a 82' x 50# dyneema set. When I determine the length for those 2 kites in 0 to 3 I'll get a better quality line. If your like me sometimes ignoring the wise advice of others and just gotta fly get some 50# dyneema. Pretty cheap if you buy bulk and make your own sets.
  22. The Synapse comes with 60' x 80# polyester lines. I have the Prism snapshot 1.4 that came with 100' x 150# Prism lines. Nice prize. I enjoy my 1.4 foil and think you will too.
  23. Got the Cadet and 50# line set this morning. Winds were a little gusty. 0 to 8 or 9 but staying closer to 0. Flew the Cadet for about 10 minutes. Only comment about it so far is that I really regret letting go the Premiere Jewel.More time on the Cadet I hope it comes close but 1st impression is no. Went up on the Tekken SUL for about a hour and a 1/2. Satisfied with the new line set for now. After yesterdays dyneema time fairly relieved. Didn't fly the Pro Dancer because of the higher gust. Totally relate to what Wayne said. Tekken has no adjustments and once powered up flight remains amazingly the same all thru the wind range and window. On 90# lines changes a bit above 12 but not much. Kites stated range is 2 to 12 on 50# and Iv'e found that true. If winds gust to 15 I use 90# sets and max out in 15/16 on kite. Pro Dancer has 3 different characteristics to me and I think there are 4. Totally different kite than the Tekken and I think in 8+ gusts would easily break a 50# line set. Kites rates to 12 but I don't go very close to that anymore. For now.Running back and forth doing nose adjustments in gusty winds doesn't pan out most the time. Make my best guess and go. Why am I not flying now on such a nice day you may ask. HOT cause it's HOT. Ya think I lived in a semi arid desert it's so HOT. Oh yeah I do.
  24. Got some clouds cooled off a bit and flew for a couple hours this evening. Thinking on this thread I took my Black Dog and Widow Maker out with 80# x 80' dyneema line set. Been maybe 3 months since I've used it. I'd never flown the Widow Maker on a Dyneema set before. Ouch. Never will again. Got to remembering that the last 3/4 of my time with the Widow ng was on 150# x 100" prism line. Maybe the last couple months I've gotten more attuned to the kites. Zoomed around a bit on the Black Dog and had a good time. Didn't feel a dramatic difference if at all flying it with Prism 90# x 80" or the dyneema. Never flown it with LPG. Switched to the WMP and wow was it noticeable. Winds were a blustering but not overly bad. Between 12 and 18 mph.Should have been flying the Mind Trick. It handles blustery like you wouldn't believe unless you fly it for yourself. 2 near damaging nose dives that I think were from lack of response in the lines that I hadn't adjusted for . Just to the right of mid center window did a lazy, back into turtle and started rotating to nose forward. Wind gusted a little, kite nosed dived towards center gaining speed as it went. Pulled out but barley. Next one center top, pancaked caught a flic flac, missed the next but held the fade for a bit. About 1/2 way down kite dipped and headed straight for the ground powering up.Avoided the crash but it was even closer then the 1st. It ended in a tip drag which is way to close for me unless intentional. LPG set and I don't think I would have been near that close to disaster. Might have even been able to make another move instead of that was close. Flew a bit more. Winds got to shaking the kite and it's hey stupid your on 80# lines in winds going over 20. Go take a shower.Took the shower and winds dropped under 15. Could have flown another hour dang it. Hopefully the 50# x 80' dyneema set that'll be here tomorrow won't be such a dramatic difference on the Tekken or Pro Dancer. Starting to kick myself for being such a cheapskate and not getting LPG 50# months ago. Do have another ( justified) kite though 😁. Buy Shanti, Skybond or LPG. Man I'm starting to become the kite snob I always hoped I could be LOL.
  25. There is a list 🎶. YAY!! Watching videos of Devon, Wayne B and you Rob made me want a Solus from just about day 1. If it has more in common with Lams kites than the WMP that will not be a bad thing AT ALL. Hopefully I'll have one before turkey day. Winds are great right now but it's hell fire hot. For me way to hot for beer 🤤. Now I got another reason to look forward to those cool fall days. Really stoked but alas no dorts. Shut up already. There are no dorts never have nor will there ever be dorts. Got it!! Sorry no probably not but the search continues. Purple and pink is still number 1 in the colorizer though. If you would have told me 6 months ago I'd be drawn to a purple and pink kite I'd said you were nuts.White too.Still kinda blows my mind. Some of you around here are a bad, bad influence
