  1. OH yeah, I did much better!! A couple of solo demos and an attempt at a 30' follow with a friend! I had a great time (not sure about lines though)!!
  2. What's more important than weight, is how do the kites perform??
  3. If you get into Revs (funny, I said if), watch John's video on line management til you're sick of it! Pays off though when you finally hit the field and you can wind and unwind lines easy and tangle free!! Once you find a system that works for you - don't change it!! Do it exactly the same every time!! Make it habit, automatic, so much better than cussing at those messed up lines every time!!
  4. Make your Tedlar patch plenty big, it's invisible and you want to completely cover the hole! Tedlar is a brand of repair tape sold by most kite stores for fixing small holes, etc.!
  5. It is the set in question, "T"!! I had good success with the soaking thing, lines felt good again! So I'm thinking that worked OK, and they weren't in my bag long enough to mold or anything! They were used in less than a day later - dry to the touch, but not fully dry!! I did have to buy a new set because I had a line cut by another flier accidentally! Lost another 50' line when I caught a stake while flying!! Oh well, they needed to be replaced!! YIKES, tough weekend on lines!
  6. I'd tape it with Tedlar - front and back for best strength! Since it's clear it shouldn't even show!! Make the tape patch oversized a bit, so it completely covers the rip! The super glue method I've heard about, but never tried yet!
  7. I think Berry Blue is no more, I'd stick with either Laser Pro gold or Shanti Speed! Flown both with positive results!! Dacron works for single line kites, stretches as the wind gusts and lulls, but wouldn't use it for any stunt kites!! Too much stretch and it will melt the good lines if it comes in any real contact!! And no Kevlar either, cuts anything else flying!! UGH!!
  8. Nick - I did soak them overnight in the solution of water and baby wash! Left them out for a goodly amount of time to dry to the touch, then wrapped them in a washcloth for another good bit! Packed away in my bag for the trip to this weekend's festival, I'm going a couple of days early to fly with friends already there! We'll see if the "treatment "worked!!
  9. I'm just dropping the whole thing, winder and all, in a large bowl to soak! Usually works OK on lines I've used at the beach before! Got rid of most sand and salt residue! But this is new to me, and a new set of lines to boot! Would really like to save them!
  10. Yes, correct John! Pollen has just about killed these lines already, and they're almost new! After the baby wash treatment, I'll see how much that helped, flying this weekend!
  11. On one person's suggestion, I've tried using a baby wash and water to clean them! Waiting to see how they fared, I'm still open to other methods! Sticky lines are not good for team flying quads!!
  12. Question for anyone out there with some experience in this - What do you use to clean new lines, flown on a grass field, that have become sticky and feel like really old lines!! I can barely get 2-3 wraps and they're binding up!! Wrapping up is brutal, you can feel the glue-like stickiness on the lines as you wind up!! Anyone got any ideas??
  13. Maybe he is getting old, mistaking abuse for love!! LOL!!
  14. My 2 short sets (50' + 30') are both 50#. On that short length, I don't notice the stretch that much! And the lighter line seems to work better for me in light wind! IMHO!
  15. Also, some smaller kites need more wind to fly. Meaning you're up, but he's grounded!! NO FUN!!
  16. Young whippersnapper!!
  17. Still will - and you won't be invited to join in!!
  18. At least it's back!! Now to wait a little longer....!
  19. No, Nick , hold on! The Manta completely went out of production for a while, that's why they weren't available! ITW just got the permission this year to re-introduce them! That's why the delay! The Skate and Echo and Hydra were all in the same limbo, until ITW stepped up to remake them! Still no word on if they will do the Reflection (indoor)! So you see ITW didn't take 4 years, the whole licensing thing did!
  20. Into the Wind is the new supplier of several of Paul de Bakker's designs! They are having them made by others, then selling them through their store! Taking the time for the maker to get it into the pipeline! Paul is no longer making them himself (Focus Kites), but has licensed out some of his designs! The Manta is one among several!
  21. N O T ! My thoughts exactly!! (Sorry bout that)
  22. The Manta doesn't use a coin slot like the Skate! It used a much larger weight that I think attached to the spine, somehow! I hadn't seen it, just heard about it and was told it seemed way to big to be used indoors! But with a sail so big, I'm guessing you would need a large weight to balance that out well!!
  23. Gotta remember that baby is almost 10' from wing to wing!! I don't think it has the nose weight the original came with for indoor gliding, as it is aimed more for the outdoor crowd! I've seen one too, very impressive!!
  24. You need to ask John for your #, he has the master list and can give it to you! Most of us add it to our signature, so there's a record of it for us! He's at a Canadian festival right now, should be back next week! Post in the topic and he'll get back to you as he catches up with things! Good luck!! (NOT)!
  25. Yep - the Manta has a release date of sometime this summer on the Into the Wind catalog! Big difference from Wala to Skate, even bigger, Manta to XL!!
