Wow, I did the names w/phonics early in the morning so I'd get it done.. They probably want to egg me I butchered them so bad... Now, here are the correct spellings as they are in the festival book. A very nice book I might add. Picture this: Kite fliers ~ Flying for the crowd. Sundowners and IQuad Gary and Nancie MacEachern Ron Despojado & Susan Shampo Lam Hoac Brian Champie Al Washington and Aaron (A.J.) Penny Lingenfelter (that's me) Nathaniel Ostovar Steve Bladell Al Stroh Susan Shampo Kite Makers~ Showing their stuff Ron and Sandy Gibbeon, Deb Lenzen John and Mary Gabby Ronda Brewer and Lindsey Johnson David Gomberg (who flew kites) Cindy and Rod Thrall Many volunteers and the WIND CHASERS!!! Go Windchasers! I don't have my book with all the names in it, and they are misspelled something terrible. I'll bet I forgot some awesome fliers and builders. The line up was fantastic. Two days was not long enough. The crowd was interactive and appreciative. I wonder if the flyers knew just how good they are. I don't think kitefliers went any where without being recognized and congratulated. I heard whispers everywhere.. do you think they'd mind if I got their picture. ... Aww, let them eat! Now where in the world can you see a line up like that?! The word down the pipe line is that we are all invited back next year to do it again, only better. Now, only a few more weekends of events before WSIKF! Woo Hoo~ Long Beach!!! BB Penny ~who is open to help at Kite hill this weekend for the Family Mentor Program. It's all about kids and kites, not a show.

Wow, Spence, smart idea. Without the back on it, you can spin around easily. I'm stealing that idea. BB Penny

Hey Wen, they have fun events you two can both register for. Mass assensions, terrific territory, pun fun. Teams can always use you, or you can make your own team.. (You won't have a chance against the crazy ladies of L.B.) But mom can jump right in. Litsong, You can certainly donate the massage to the Dinner Sat. night. I bet it would be a hit! I believe the money goes to helping the kite museum. You two will enjoy the museum to, and it's in walking distance. My mom is a massage therapist, but I don't bother her much. Kewl, you two are ready for road trips. I try to keep my van like that. Wen, are you sitting down and flying the rev yet? I got a skinned knee the other night sliding on the gym floor. Sometimes I think I'm to old for this.. NOT!! It's getting closer. You all have a great day. BB Penny

Hi Litsong, Sorry, about the spelling. It all sounds good to me. Food at Long Beach is part of the fun of Long Beach.. There are restaurants and food vendors within easy walking distance. You can cruise the town~just walk around and look even after hours. It is 2 miles to Wildwood, and they usually have a trolly that goes to camp from town. You probably won't need that, but it's good for teenangers to get around too. There is a grocery store just about a mile down the road. Food, transportation, kites, you have it all covered! What if it rains? This is WA.. we do get rain. And sometimes it rains all week at Long Beach to get rid of the fair weather fliers. By Sat. 1/2 of them have gone home and then the sun comes out!! So, if it rains? We use to camp in the mountains and it rained a lot. Daddy had us dig a small trench, uhmm, ditch around the tent, so that it didn't flood. Will any one out there have a shovel at Wildwood? lol It shouldn't be that bad, but maybe I better bring a tarp for under the tent? Food, clothes, flashlight, sleeping bags? How do you travel with camping gear? BB Penny ~who's got 3 events before WSIKF.. but that's not keeping me from packing now! hello penny we just had a great weekend in Brenton Point park in Newport last weekend. two more events before WSIKF ! we will be in vancouver WA from 8/11, and most likely to go to the long beach on 8/17. every excited about meeting people in reality after reading the forum for so long. i am very amused about my new name from you Liftsong, ah, you are probably right (will talk to you more about my names later when we meet). don't worry, you don't have to change the label, you are allowed to use it just as you like. just so you know, most people call me "Litsong" or "songsong" your one (Liftsong) may be too hard for most others to say so i think we keep it between us. as for you, a woman with extra talent tracks, feel free to pronounce that as you please. thank you so much for loaning us the tent. that sure help out a great deal (at least my friends who lost my tent won't feel so bad) i had a great offer of hospitality from Glenn the good hearted and all my issues of "how to get to BASKC and WSIKF" are resolved. so i am very happy to say we are somewhat ready (not register for the program yet.) love and all gratitude Litsong about car rental, T recommended 4 wheel drive car, what am i expecting from driving around the area? a bit confused. about survival can anyone tell me a bit about their food plan? i have not done 8 days camping nor events longer then 4 days i don't like to eat dogs and burgers (no meat for me, thank you) i don't know if we will have time or energy to cook after long day on the beach walking, and flying (yes! the sherpa actually flies, a bit). Wen usually hang out until dusk before he calls it a day, then he loves the "after flying hanging out" very much if not more), yet he is a big eater of wholesome food. yeah, we are food people any advice or information welcome.

I heard it's been hot, hot hot! Hopefully, we'll have blues skies and wind. See you there! BB Penny

Sunday to Sunday heh? I am off all week, too, but I wasn't sure if I was going to get down there right away. I"m going to meander and see friends, but I can make it down there on Sunday if two things happpen. REMIND ME!~ lol I'll be packing, playing and be bopping all over. Remind me before I leave. I'll put a not ein my van. Then, where can we meet up? At the beach!!!! OK, Liftsong, you will have to find me on the beach. That usually isn't a problem. We can pass notes to people.. Penny was here.. but she's gone to find so and so.... she'll meet you on the beach.. oh, Penny was here, she went to go to the restroom... she'll be back.. Oh, Penny was here.. she went to get a kite out of the van.. OH.. Are you Liftsong?! She left this for you!! We will make it work! Tia, I'm probably staying at Andy's .. free camping, hot tub... friends..you know.. Everything Wildwood has, but further away. Wen? Can you fly on the wheels, with the kite, blindfolded with only one foot down? You two should be fun to watch! ( (Spence and Wen) See you all soon. BB Penny ~Who now will be at Long Beach on Sunday.

REV II STD to UL or SUL
Penny Lingenfelter replied to layangman's topic in Adjustments and Modifications
I think the nice thing about the twos is that they are fast and precise.. You can go as slow as you want and as fast as you can and still have fantastic control. Yes, I've seen rev. II 'SUL's fly inside and a stack in side is real kewl, too. Shorter handles make a big difference making it much more controllable in high wind. I like a vented Rev. II best of all. It flies cleaner in those ugly winds. Two reasons I mod it to SUL and the LE to 3 pieces. 1) The winds here usually sucks and comes in little "farts"...know what I mean? 2) Portability - since I travel alot, the 3 piece LE made a huge difference, I can stuff it in my luggage bag! I agree the REVII is a blast to fly, although not precise, the speed makes up for the it. -
Hi Lift Song, I have a 3 man dome tent you could borrow. Some friends just brought it back, and I made them promise to dry it and sweep it out upon return. It's already packed in my van. (I'm packing already) lol I still have plenty of events before hand, but I can't wait till Long Beach! I look forward to meeting you and seein our young guys flying. BB Penny hello folks we lost our tent (brand new) through a friend who kept it, and now don't really know what we will sleep in.... yet we had our airline tickets and camping spot reserved, so we are sure to be there (sunday to sunday). we hold a spot in wildwood camp ground, but so far only have our sleeping bags and pads what else do we need ? advice? our video recorder went to the repair http://www.kitelife.com/forum/style_emotic...fault/wacko.gif crossing our fingers that we have it back before the trip we leave on 8/9 to Boston and fly to portland 8/11. this is a big trip and we are excited! Hopefully we get the video recorder in time. see you soon Litsong

Carl, you won't be at Brookings? BB Penny
-
Maybe Rachel or Glen Day will be there. They have been taking great video. BB Penny
-
OK, I will be at Long Beach all week, or at least in the area. Spenbce and Wen, be sure you have short lines for the Indoor fly. The whole gym is rather small and the ceiling has low beams. I'm looking forward to watching you both fly. BB Penny~who should be at the indoor a few nights.

I don't want to leave the last post as a sad one. Here's some indoor video. Have you ever seen a kite fairy? The voice over starts: Have you ever seen a kite fairy? http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6592665475602400591 Lincoln City, OR Indoor Kite Festival: Fun for everyone. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=786986055037678677 Slower Rev flying. Nice site.. I saw it earlier.. Mario, you all are doing fantastic. Keep having fun. See you all soon. BB Penny

Hmm, how did a Lincoln City question change topic headings to Ocean Shores Summer Heat? lol Lincoln City was awesome. Seriously, the ocean and sky were the bluest I've ever seen. Perfect winds, 21 Octopi in the air for the world record, and a few little ones they didn't count, but once I find out what they feed the big ones.. mine should grow. BB Penny who didn't talk about Summer Heat, but thinks it will be marvelous.
-
Can you take a picture of Mom with a coconut drink? I'll live vicareoulsy (sp) through you till we get a vacation. Fun flying, safe travels young man. BB Penny
-
I'll be there. Lincoln City is bringing in the Wranglers from CA, OR, and WA I believe. They are having "Ooodles of Octopi" The Wranglers handle the large Peter Lynn Octopi and are trying to break the world record or at least N.American record of Octopi in the sky at one time. Pray for wind, not to much.. just enough to get them up. Amy Doran, AKA Charlie Chaplain will be there. Bob Serack with banners, stacks, etc. Rhonda Brewer, Deb Cooley, David Gomber, probably Dancing Al Washington, and I don't know who else. Hope to see you there and hope hot weather doesn't mean no wind and kill Penny on soft sand. Lincoln City ~ Everything is better at the beach! BB Penny

Awesome. I planned on being there all week, but there might be hitch. Keep your fingers crossed. We'll see you there. BB Penny hey, watty and Penny: we just arrived in the USA last week, now in RI. we do hope to make it to the WSIKF (although i had not gotten the details yet) majory because we want to see the indoor thing (4 days! ) we will get our bearings in a couple of days and i shall look into the details to make it happen..... flight and lodging, etc. see you there Litsong Try not to take too long. Places around Long Beach during WSIKF fill up quick. I got reservations at the Thousand Trails camp site 120 days in advance.

I've been so sad, I couldn't even write in Kitelife. I've been flying for close to 20 years and in all that time I've never had a single kite come up missing, unless I left it in the back of someone's car on the way to a plane. (Thanks Terry Lee) People are good, or at least 80 % of them. Usually I can find something good in everyone. So I've been shaken to core, my heart feels like it's broken, I'm in complete denial that my Red/White/Blue Custom Flag Indoor/Nowind Revolution kite has come up missing. I took my three grandkids to open the Crossroads Park in Bellevue (Seattle area) to help people fly kites. It was awesome to see the beautiful manicured green lawn come to life with the color and activity of families flying butterfly kites and little diamonds. It was difficult handing out kites, teaching untangling tails so no knots were made, warning people the kids had sticks in thier hands.. (There was no wind) and keeping an eye on a 3, 5 and 8 yr. old in the crowd. Scary fun! I brought the Rev and UFO out just in case, though that was at the beginning, and my flying with grandkids probably wasn't going to happen, but just-in-case. I put the kites in my kite bag and tucked them under the tarp with the other flyers items under a tent. It was sprinking at the end, so when I pulled my bag out, and noticed it was unzipped, I didn't think much about it, except that hmm, I had zipped it shut. Later, I realized I didn't see the two kites in there. They and 2 ribbons and a butterfly were all that were left in the bag when I was done. I didn't catch it till on the ride home.. it popped into my head. I didn't see the Rev, or UFO handle w/ line on it. My hope was, they had just fallen out when I dragged the bag out of the pile, and accidently ended up in another kite fliers gear. Hey, it could happen. There were both red/whit/blue like most everyone's gear there. There were only about 4 or 5 kitefliers there, so the tent didn't always have someone at it. I've been through my gear repeatedly, through my house, incase a child carried them in and set them in a strange place. Still no INdoor Flag REV. I'm so sad~~ I'm fine at work, a little heavy hearted, but when I get home and see kite paraphanila, my missing kite is all I can think about. It's so sad. We went from the park to the Fauntleroy/Vasion/Port Orchard Ferry dock and never got out of the car on the ferry ride. Straight home and no kites to be found. I contacted the other flyers and they have been through their bags. I still hold on to some hope that it is mixed up in some ones gear, with their red/white/blue.... it would be the best scenario. My heart goes out to people who''s gear has been stolen. It really hurts. Please keep your eye open and pass the word. The kite is the one on my avatar. Maybe I'll attach a picture so it can be copied and pasted. BB Penny ~who is helping her daughter move this weekend while she dries her tears and misses kite events everywhere!

Awesome video again Spencer. Wen, see what you will be doing soon? You guys are doing great in such a short time. I'm so glad to see it. Come to Long Beach for the indoor wen. See you there Spence. BB Penny
-
If you build it they will come. That's what Scott Davis tells people about creating new events. I keep tring to talk Brian Champie into just creating events, move on to the next. It is a lot of work Dean, and I'm very thankful for those that do it. BB Penny
-
tNo problem, To each their own. I'm not even into Rev tricks. I'm not a quad snob, just a rev fanatic. It's all about the control, the brakes and always having a dance partner when you fly to music. It's just kiteflying without music you know. I bet Prism is Nation and international, not just N.W. BB Penny
-
Sorry, I have to chime in here. What is wrong with going with the Rev. as your first kite? lol You know you want it. It's not going to help to know how to trick a dual kite. They are great.. and you are going to say... why didn't I go with the Rev first? That being said, Kiteflying is going to give you lots ot ramble on about, so go ahead and ramble! BB Penny
-
Hey Dean, I'm not sure.. Your talking to someone who wants to remain "just a kiteflier'. You might talk to other production company's and see what works for them. I imagine like any booking agency it takes a lot of foot work. You'd have to canvass to find the locations, facilities, venues, people who need entertainment at their event. Shcedule, etc. and get a cut of the pay. Some people are good at this, but we kite fliers are not promoters. Actually I can think of one that is good and he can ride off of his pass for many years. Other's who have more credentials don't have the know how and do not get the gigs that they wuold take pleasure from. it's not easy getting your name out there to start with. Self promotion is difficult for many of us. I have a friend who was a booking agency for a band. For her it was easy, but our venues would be different. I keep plugging away at ideas. Maybe it's God's way of saying.. don't make money off of kites, just do it for a good cause. Know of any good causes? lol I forgot Deb wasa an alumni or Oregon. Ok, did you actually contact them for help, or not? We know they are busy... but remember... it never hurts to ask. BB Penny
-
Fly at twilight.. Your almost guaranteed no wind.. At least your not changing gear and getting some real flying in. BB Penny ~who's freckles hide the sun burned spots.
-
Hi Dean, It sounds like a good idea, but I doubt if they would be the one to actually start it. They are one of the highest paid acts out there and I believe they have two circus schools now. (Something to that effect) Very busy and it is thier income. It never hurts to dream and it never hurts to ask! Is there a good cause they could work with that can bring them in? It would take a lot of work. If it's to much, you might find others that are closer to bring in. You are in the Oregon area. John B. is down there, Ricketts from Synergy was down there. You have quite a few N.W. fliers in the area. Just having a fun fly and doing a few hit and run fly's in strategic spots to promote, or even planned assemblies might help. Getting a few fliers together is sometimes all you need to get things started. All a good kite comp or show takes is a large gym with seating. We need a N.W. kite production company. A booking agent for kitefliers. Could there be one in your future? BB Penny Good catch! I was hoping you would make the connection when I posted their indoor flying link I'll send you a PM..... Theresa
