Ok, found it. I thought you posted the question. My bad. It is a mesh tear he's talking about, which can be taped but is best sewn.
-
In this topic? I don't see anything like that, however, the method you describe here is similar to a method I have used. Tedlar tape on the back and a very thin line of crazy glue on the front. The tedlar tape sticks to the ripstop very well and the crazy glue bonds to the tape and the ripstop, so you can use a 1/4" strip of tape and the repair will be pretty much permanent. You can use only the tedlar tape, but a wider strip, on the back and that holds pretty well too, or use on both sides if the tear is at a major stress point. At stress points the best repair would be to sew a patch of sail material around it.

No, you did not. You mentioned kite shoppe and into the wind. Now go to awindofchange.com and check it out.

@SHBKF Of course, you realize that this will also slow the kite down dramatically, but you will also lose all the trailing edge flutter when at full speed, which will reduce the wear on the trailing edge. This applies to all quad-line kites, and, come to think of it, duals too. I said you may like it. By that I mean how often you get to fly in wind in that 0-2mph range. Like most things Rev-related, it will take a few sessions (back-to-back if possible) to really feel the difference. If you want to fly with ease (even sitting down) when everyone else is working up a sweat just trying to keep it airborne, then this is definitely worth learning. I have flown my "modified" kites when single-line SUL deltas won't stay up.
-
If you can launch without too much difficulty from the 10th knot, that's where you should be for very low wind. A differential of 7 to 7.5 inches is where the wind will properly load the sail. Try it, you may like it.

Glad you had some fun. Sounds like you're well on your way. Welcome to the addiction. Where there's one kite, there will be more.

Nice video, enjoyed it very much. Good flying too! -
@SHBKF More brake! Next time out in low wind with the Zen, max out the brake. Try it, you will be amazed at both the pull and the ease of control. Eighty foot lines are ok with the Zen. I have flown mine on forties, and although the window is rather small, the kite is easier to keep aloft in low wind. Bring out the 50# lines if you have any. 50# x 120' is awesome if you have the room.

Hi, Frank and welcome to the forum. The kite you bought should be just fine for learning basic control of dual-line kites in general. Eventually you may get into something more sophisticated, but for now it'll do just fine. In moderate wind you'll be able to zip around pretty well. Since you've been flying RC you probably have a decent understanding of flight dynamics. The only difference between a plane and a kite is the lack of engine. Just think of the kite as a glider. Have fun, smile, and don't forget to breathe.

All the answers are here. Read as much of the posts under "Quad Heads" as you can. There are topics on exactly the questions you have posted.

How hard can it be to fly a kite, right? People always ask, "Is it hard to learn?" I tell them it takes a little time, that's all. Once you start it never ends. There is always something new to learn. Time on the lines is all it takes. Have fun, smile, breathe. Fly with others as often as possible.

Yup, that Zen's gonna get you. Once you click with it, there's no going back. I've been hooked on super low wind for a few years now. Demands finesse, flying at your best. Teaches you things about sail loading that cannot be learned any other way. Great way to transition to indoor.

That Zen will grow on you. Before you know it, you'll be craving those 0-3mph days. I'm hooked.

Aha! I think the "News from the Webmaster" only allows admin to post.!? Maybe.

The reply button and reply appear on existing threads which already have been replied to, but not on new posts which have not been replied to yet. Weird.

There was another whole sentence in front of what you see here. It got chopped when I clicked on Submit Reply. It said everything seems fine. A bit too hastily said?

@SparkieRob, and why haven't you installed your new User Profile cover photo yet? Testing, 1, 2......testing, 1, 2.....

No problems working from PC, although some procedures have changed, I'm sure we'll all get used to them eventually. $650 is less than $2 per subscriber, which I would have no problem paying -- even ten times that much. 35 subscribers willing to donate $20 will make it happen. Even raising the subscription price to $34.95 for only the year 2016 would cover it too. Just some thoughts to consider.

Even with the trees, I think they're sparse enough to allow decent wind.

I just re-read this. I was making sure all my pots were where they should be. Then I noticed it says posts.

Is there a comprehensive "KITE" dictionary online ?
makatakam replied to DeafThunder's topic in Beginners
Google "kite types" and click on the Wikipedia listing. That should keep you busy for quite some time. You can also visit your local library. They may have some of the items listed in the Wikipedia bibliography section. -
Yeah, I weigh a whole 140 pounds, so it can be a handful. It's not too bad if I fly it with a ton of brake. Only launched during the lulls, but it still caught me off-guard a couple of times. Ten to fifteen minutes with that puppy is all I want to handle. The other guys I flew with had a Blast!
