  1. Okay, try this... Go to "My Settings" Click on the "Profile" tab Look for "Facebook Connect" It's also accessible in the upper right corner of our login page. That's it.
  2. Aha, a couple of mods made to the "reputation" system... 1. Members can no longer + themselves, I'd over looked that one. 2. There is no more negative rating option. Remember, "tip your hat" to especially good posts and hit that little + symbol!
  3. Upgrade is done! Active Topics vs New Content Settings can be found here - http://kitelife.com/forum/index.php?app=core&module=usercp Any other lingering complaints? I'd genuinely like to know.
  4. FYI guys, due to popular demand, the next version of IPB (coming out soon) will have your choice of Active Topics (old) or New Content (new), presumably configured through your account settings. Just thought you'd like to know, will post here when it's been installed. I'll be staying with New Content, since I don't always have time to read everything and don't want to lose the listing of new stuff when I leave the site.
  5. FYI, I'll be at WSIKF too... Just look for iQuad and the mega team of 4-line Revolution kites.
  6. I think you've found a pretty good resource right here on Kitelife... We've got an extensive archive of magazines, the largest online collection in the world: Kitelife - http://www.kitelife.com/magazine (12 years of bi-monthly) Kite Lines - http://kitelife.com/...ads&showcat=114 (30 years of quarterly) SKQ - http://kitelife.com/...ads&showcat=113 (4 years of quarterly) There's also our newly developing kite archive which has a growing listing of kites... http://kitelife.com/...-kite-archives/ Our video listings on YouTube... http://www.youtube.com/user/kitelife Don't forget the 20,866 posts we have here on the forum, which can be searched here. And of course, when you have any specific questions, ask our friendly forum members!
  7. Coming to WSIKF Jynxie?
  8. Just started on a cool new project! We're working to develop a growing listing of all kites produced on a commercial or specialty level, with as much info as we can find including (when available) MFR link(s), YouTube videos, photos and essential product info. Initially divided by dual, quad and single line, I'm sure it will eventually branch out into sub-sections like indoor, vented, etc. Members will be encouraged to add their own reviews, modifications, tips, photos, videos, stories and history for any of the kites. You can also rate (1-5 stars) any kite once it's added to the archives, so we'll have a running tally of ratings, comments and content from our forum members, all of which will serve as an incredibly rich and comprehensive listing of kites for years to come. == Here's where we're at now: Many hands make light work, and I know there are quite a few authentic kite junkies here who might get a kick out of participating in this little venture. The actual minimum details I've deemed necessary to first enter a kite is the product name, company name and photo. Bonus items would include the designer's name, a YouTube video, specifications from the MFR's website, link to the MFR's product page, etc. This is NOT limited to high-end kites... Be Bop, Nirvana, Fire Dart, Wizard, Viper, Cheetah, CA Wasp, you name it, we want 'em listed! == I'm looking for a few good fliers who wouldn't mind dropping a few minutes into this every now and then... We'd be quite productive at that rate, since it takes about 60 seconds to add a new kite with the minimum details. I think I'd like 10-12 people all told, to get good coverage from all the various styles, etc. If you're game, I'd be deeply grateful if you'd send me a PM through the forum... From there, it's kind of a probationary thing... I'll provide you access to the Kite Archive portion of the forum and let you have a look around, read the notes there, and see exactly what you're getting into... Again, it's SO simple and easy, but I'm sure some would like to see before saying they'd like to help. Looking forward to hearing from you.

  9. Great to hear about your successes, bonus points for paying it forward.
  10. Sweet, congrats.
  11. We hope to be at the field around 1pm on Friday, will be "working" until dinner time since we have to train JD on the Back in Black routine.
  12. A little history... I first saw this concept implemented as an after market addon for any delta sport kite, called "The Bone". Designed by Bob Childs and distributed primarily during 1991-1992, it got no use on the competition field, and didn't turn up too often except on Bob's own charter kite design called the "Wizard". Didn't see anything like this again until 1993 when Vince Bobrosky (of Stinger fame) released a kite called the "Pro Warrior" which featured double bones, essentially extensions of the wiskers (stand offs) that continued well past the bottom spreaders, bowing back until the other end of the bones (opposite from the sail) connected with fittings on the top spreader. This last one seemed to be the most practical in design and handling. Hope that was of some interest!
  13. Aye folks, we've just enabled Facebook Connect on the Kitelife forum... Your settings - http://kitelife.com/...s&area=facebook As you can see, it'll update your status every 24 hours with what you have on your Facebook page, profile photo, avatar, etc... Totally configurable, and optional, but a nice tool for those who can use it.
  14. Oh yeah, I can't wait!
  15. Choccy, would you mind providing an example post where old links and smileys are still having problems? I rebuilt all the posts, smileys and such *should* be coming up. If I have a sample to look at, makes it easy. Thanks!
  16. Have you considered the possibility of turbulence or gusts? A kite like a parafoil might not do well in rough wind. Would be curious to hear your experience with it in "beach wind".
  17. Alright folks, I've got the external link issue worked out... Links in posts, signatures and "about me" stuff in your profile will now open in a new window.
  18. Cheers Robin, welcome and good luck with your endeavor.

Ha, super cute kid... Gonna be a star kiteflier.
  20. If I'm not mistaken, the 2008 World Champion team (Air-Rex from Japan) flew the competition (by Skyburner) model of this kite last year, for the win.
  21. You don't need Quicktime Pro, rest easy. Just download the files (xxxx.mp4), then drag them into iTunes after downloading. iTunes should be able to play them directly on your screen, as well as sync them to your iPod. I hope that helps.
  22. Another good source... http://www.gkites.com/ (spin off site from www.gombergkites.com) Also, whatever you see on these sites, you can almost undoubtedly order through your local retailer. Always support your local shops, whenever possible.
  23. Headed out to this field today, probably from around 10am onward, as long as the wind is decent (which it should be)... Meeting up with Dean, probably some other folks too.
  24. Just checking in with y'all to see what's hot and what's not. Right now, I'm mainly flying these three dual lines: . Exile by Blue Moon Kites Mid-size kite, great balance between trick and precision, excellent all-arounder. http://bluemoonkites.com/exile.htm == . Jump by Level One Small kite, very durable, quick with excellent trick/precision ability if given small inputs, wide wind range. http://www.skyburner.com/levelone/jump.html == . Shiva by Cavalier du Ciel (no longer made) Full size, deep sail, outstanding precision and low wind performance, minimal trick ability. == . Bonus points for those who post YouTube (or similar) videos of the kites you list. Looking forward to seeing what y'all are enjoying, and why! REMEMBER: Videos are examples only, viewers should take into account varying skill levels and understanding of the kite being displayed... Word of mouth is 2nd best, hands on testing is the most reliable.
