  1. All of the kite shops advertising on the main portion of this site are reputable, as Kitelife deals only with companies that have some understanding and care about the kiting community... A couple of calls or emails, and you'll know who genuinely wants to take care of you.
  2. Sandman, can you tell us about the difference you felt? Always curious to hear from others.
  3. It's important to note that Penny flies Revolutions exclusively, which can fly without a bridle... Dual line kites all require a bridle of some kind. And the simplest way to answer "what is a bridle?"... It's the harness attached to the front of the kite, which you then attach your lines to.
  4. If the line came with the kite, it may be no surprise... I hate to say it, but Go Fly A Kite isn't known for their product quality or design. Do what you can for the time being, but ask around here on the forum next time you look into buying a new kite... Budget, goals, all relevent to kite selection.
  5. Might be good to have some way to "kill" the kite, should the power get out of control at any time... Example, an extra line tied to a loop on the bottom edge of the kite... If it gets hairy, you can haul that extra line hard and collapse the kite, killing the power. Safety is paramount. We want you to keep on flying!
  6. No internet?!?!?! NOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooooo... LOL
  7. Hey all, For those of you who are official Kitelife subscribers, I encourage you to take a look at the new and improved members area... It's been re-organized and beefed up, hopefully making it much more fun to browse through our special content. http://www.kitelifers.com In the members area you'll find almost 1,000 photos (many of which are not on the main site), 12 festival "medley" videos, 10 large resolution competition videos (720x480), 3 demo videos and 1 promo video... Included in this content are the top five teams from both the 2005 and 2006 World Sport Kite Championships, in 720x480 for your viewing pleasure. Also, for all you techies... Many of the videos are duplicated in iPod format! I'll be going through our raw (local) video archives, adding more large resolution and iPod versions as time goes on. If you're not a subscriber, you'll find more information on the Kitelifers.com home page.
  8. I just caught elsewhere that you're in Long Island... I'd read that bit about Goodwinds, and assumed you were in the Northwest. Sorry Rob! I'd agree with REVflyer, do what you can to look up some fliers in your area. The pay off will be huge.
  9. Rob... Really, truly, it sounds like you need to come out and hang with some other fliers for a weekend. We've got an event coming up in Westport (WA) next weekend, and it's not too terribly far from Seattle... Nothing beats spending time with other enthusiasts. The Westport event is both a kite festival and kite competition, but no one expects anyone to compete... Kiting is a social, laid back scene. You'd learn more in a single weekend than you would spending weeks on the forum. Any chance you can make it?
  10. Found the (nearly complete) list of quad line articles on Kitelife, found here: http://www.revkites.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5
  11. Indeed, Rev has a basic quad flying video that comes with their kites. The Kite Connection also has a (semi)advanced quad video here. Last but not least, there is a light wind flying article here. Do a web search on "REVisions" in the Kitelife site, great articles there... There's been one in the last 1/2 dozen or so issues.
  12. There's a small batch of custom patriotic Rev I's on Revolution's web site, for anyone who is interested... http://www.revkites.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=66 Also heard in the rumor mill, we just might be seeing a limited run of Ron Gibian designed Revs coming though soon... Word has it, each kite will be unique. Keep your eyes open for more news on this!
  13. I posted replies to Obijuan in the appropriate sections.
  14. Our pleasure Doc! If you'd like to see this kind of content continue growing, I'd heartily encourage you to consider becoming an official Kitelife Subscriber. Info - http://www.kitelifers.com
  15. Congratulations kitepilot, well done!
  16. Hi Mark, glad to hear you've stumbled into our site. Although no one has replied here, you might also post your question(s) here: http://www.gwtw-kites.com/forum http://www.kitebuilder.com/forums There are a few more kite makers on those forums than you'll find here.
  17. I'm pleased to let you all know, the Kitelife subscribers area now has it's very own domain... http://www.kitelifers.com Much better layout, dynamic photo gallery and we even added iPod versions of several subscriber videos! Check it out, and let us know what you think! We'll be adding more and more subscriber content as the year goes on.
  18. Quad KiT, in this case I'd get in touch with that store and kindly let them know... If the ultralight rod was the center (ferruled) rod, I might understand it... But typically all the rods in an SUL frame should be marked pro use only.
  19. Don't sweat it Dorsal... It's all just chat, all in line.
  20. FYI - you can put quad sticks on a Rev too. Info can be found here. Also, if you have the ability to download videos... Check out some of the "quad ballet" videos in our Kitelife archives, you'll be tickled pink!
  21. Indeed, check with all the various shops... Particularly those listed on Kitelife. As a flier, my personal favorite is www.TheKiteShoppe.com - they have the most comprehensive (in stock) inventory of rods and parts I've come across anywhere in the USA.
  22. Personal taste is a heavy player here... But, I'd recommend the 1.5 SLE... You'll NEVER break the SLE rods, and the 1.5 is the most precise quad line kite in it's price range, hands down. Spend the extra $, you won't regret it. Another factor with the 1.5... You can always buy lighter frames for the same sail, and change them in/out with ease.
  23. Thanks for the update Robert, best of luck in life and your future record attempts!
