  2. Oh damn, you guys spoiled it ... with all the travel and different time zones John has been in recently, it might have worked with some help. Geez ... Grumble, Tom

    hi all

adybug, welcome to the forum. Hope you enjoy it here. Don't forget to check out the Rev forum for some of your questions. Baloo might have some info on folks in your area ... he lives cross country from you. Getting some one-on-one help is the fastest way to learn with Revs. Yep, trees will make flying more difficult. Theoretically, you need to be ten times the height of the trees away from them to get clean air. Ane, three times the height of any trees in front of you. In practice you don't need quite that amount, but you still need a good run of clear land to obtain smooth air. If you can fly on 40 foot lines, you'll have no trouble flying on longer lines. With longer lines, the wind widow gets bigger, the kite speeds are reduced, and the brain has more time to think. Group flying calls for 120 foot lines as a standard length. Your local club/group will probably have a standard length of lines for small group flying ... generally in the 75 or 80 foot range. Check around before buying another set. Cheers, Tom
  6. Are you attending? Cheers, Tom
  7. Hmmm, peaking a little early aren't you? Cheers, Tom
  8. I'll let you look at it, but it is coming back home with me ... just to be clear on the subject. Cheers, Tom
  9. Oh John, you say that to all of us ... how promiscuous!!! Cheers, Tom
  10. 1) Well, as much as you drive to get to club flys and festivals, it should be Daytona. 2) I said Dayton, it's just my Midwest accent that showed up in the keystrokes as Daytona. 3) It's Ohio, it could use a little dressing up!!!! 4) Don't you hate that about spell checker? It's not as smart as it thinks it is. 5) Your wife hasn't told you the news yet? 6) Sorry ... Cheers, Tom
  11. FYI ... this sleeving how to showed up on another forum. The pictures didn't come up on Firefox, but they did using IE. Cheers, Tom
  12. Hey Dave, great to see you posting on Kitelife. I've really got to comment on this thread though. You posted about making kites from Dollar store materials and said "I will see if I can dig up some photos." That was in December of 2009 ... is your shop really that messy that it took almost three years to find the kites and/or pictures? For those of you who have not met Dave on the Kitebuilder forum, he's a very prolific kite builder. Not the intricate, detailed, multi-celled kites, but less complex kites that make you smile. Ask him about his fighter kites. Or the kites he builds for his grand kids ... or just the neighbor kids. Cheers, Tom
  13. Welcome to the forum kruski ... you're automatically entered. Good luck! Cheers, Tom
  14. A Wind of Change sells the stacking lines for $12 ... you've got two 1.5 REVs ... go for it!!!! Daytona Dave has small pigtails on the three REVs he flies all the time. He simply places them full vent first and full sail last, larks heads the stacking lines to the pigtails, leaves all the bridles in place, and goes flying. Very simple approach and quite fun. Cheers, Tom
  15. The factory lines for the Rev 1.5 are advertised as 4.5 foot. I've had good luck with cutting 60 inch lengths and then looping and tying them off ... close enough to 4.5 feet for government work!! Do post pictures of the results. Cheers, Tom
  16. But Duane, the bag I showed you really was close to what Nick proposed!!! But, then YOU had to ramp it up a notch ... and malign my good intentions. Geez!!!! However, I do like the idea of the Waste Management bag ... that would really work. Earlier this summer I saw a 200 sq ft kite pull a sand anchor free and start across the beach. The sand anchor was still filled with sand, but skipping easily across the sand while it picked up speed. Just as the kite approached a hotel building, an updraft caught the kite, sending it and the sand anchor skyward. Luckily there was a wire cable stretched across the front of the patio. It caught the line and cut it in a instant. The kite deflated quickly and was easily retrieved. So, it does pay to visit Gomberg's website and read his write-up on the proper use of sand anchors. Cheers, Tom
  17. This bag isn't exactly what you've been talking about, but close. From the looks of it, Duane will be able to take lots of stuff to the beach in his new bag. Cheers, Tom
  18. This posting made me smile. 1) The first picture is of you flying at Treasure Island ... and the guy in the red shirt in the background is a kite flier that I get to see each morning in the mirror. 2) I have a couple of 18" Gomberg sand anchors that I jerry-rigged as a compression sack to go to TI ... didn't realize that beach was the equivalent of concrete and the sand anchors were next to useless. I like the idea of items having multiple functions ... great suggestion. Cheers, Tom
  19. Duane, As a friend, I suggest it's time you give up this argument/discussion. I personally would like John to be the individual drawing the number via his RNG. I suspect that the preponderance of members also support that position. Regards, Tom
  20. 0 Yep, zero is what I got this time. Geez. Well, maybe the next drawing will be for a lime B2 ... Bazz could make one from scraps. Congrats Brian ... enjoy. Cheers, Tom
  21. Now that's something I can support. Get this one over with and get on to the next one ... that would be one way of making approximately 293 of us losers happy. Cheers, Tom
  22. On the 10th ... never happen!!!! You see, John stretches these drawings out longer than a death sentence appeal. The 10th is on a Sunday, so he'll whine about being at a festival some place and away from the RNG. Then on Monday he'll complain about all the e-mails and postings that he needs to review. Then on Tuesday ... Well, you get the idea. Most of the over 60 year old group will have heart attacks if he announces the winner Sunday morning. That would be bad for business, so ... Sorry, Tom
