What happened to - QUOTE - "Rex and I spoke briefly about this (it is his baby), no decision as of yet... My inclination is to see us focus on a one drawing at a time, but set a maximum entry period of 2 weeks." Gotcha ! Oh, and while I'm being a pain, does this mean that you are NOT, using the post numbers for the drawing ? Just curious because it's hard to pick a lucky number, if you can't pick it yourself

Way to go JB ! Congratulations !

No real experience, but I've been considering a big "Double French Military", or a large "Double Delta Conyne"........... Don't know how big you are talking, but both are suppose to haul a ton. Of course, there's always a big "sled", which I understand is a super lifter, also Check http://www.gombergkites.com/stick.html

I'M IN.............. Ok, I said I wasn't going to enter this one, because I just recently sold two Prism Nexus. Well, it now seems, that someone in the family (and there aren't but two of us), thought that one of those Nexus, that I sold, belonged to her ? Go figure ! All I can say now is............ Go Lucky #34 !

Holy Crap ! That's like 10"+ of brake, assuming equalized upper & lower lines ! I wouldn't get it off the ground in a storm, much less 6 - 7 mph- 149 replies

This puts me out around 13"-14" (out on the top knots) using fully equalized lines, 13" Pro handles. How about the bottoms ?- 149 replies

@JB Ok, assuming your 13" - 14" top leaders, and 5" bottom leaders, where are your initial line attachment points, on these leaders, assuming you have a brand new equalized set of 120' lines.- 149 replies

Yep, but I do end up adding a bit more (maybe 1 knot) brake, most of the time, assuming there is a decent breeze ! Of course, what I call a decent breeze, and what you call a decent breeze, are probably a long ways apart- 149 replies

Good eye Wayne........... My reference points (knots) are as follows: (you were very close) Top knot is at 7 " Bottom knot is 2 1/4" Differential is 4 3/4" (but, you missed it by 1/4") Now, as I mentioned, this is just a reference, where I normally set up ! Sometimes I move it, sometimes I don't, just depends- 149 replies

Well, not really in position to debate (especially with you John), but here is a pic of my 13" handles & leaders, which I use 98% of the time. As can be seen in the photo, I have what I call my reference points, which are just quick reminders, as to where to attach my lines, during initial set-up. So, this is where I usually begin, and if adjustments are needed, I move the top lines, either "in or out", as need be........... (works for me ?) just saying- 149 replies

Mini leaders (extend the life of your Rev leaders)
Reef Runner replied to Wayne Dowler's topic in Quad Heads
Yep...........but I still don't see why those handles, are wearing out your leaders, any worse than my set-up. I know you put in more hours than me, but I'm sure you use different sets of handles, for different types of flight. I basically use that same 13" set, for everything. -
Well, maybe not yours, but Pete was using a small piece of "down", attached to a piece of thread, hence the reference to "Pete's Down-Tronics" wind meter

Mini leaders (extend the life of your Rev leaders)
Reef Runner replied to Wayne Dowler's topic in Quad Heads
Ok, so you've got a short (3" - 4") pigtail, with one knot, attached to both the top and bottom of your handles, then you lark's head your standard leaders, to that knot. Crap, I should have figured that out.................. Anyway, I've never had a wear problem, but I do keep extra sets, ready made-up, in the flight box............ Good idea though............... -
I too, use #69 bonded polyester, for most all sewing applications. I have used it for heavy weight fabrics, as well as light weight fabrics, and as Andre mentioned, it should outlast your kite - it's very strong. I don't make kites (would like to), but I do make a lot of kite bags, sleeves, etc., as well as many other "odds & ends" applications. I usually keep a good assortment of the basic colors, plus lot's of black & white, but all is #69 bonded poly. I'd really like to learn how to make a kite, but I just haven't done so yet, plus, my machine doesn't do a zig-zag stitch. It surely sounds like a great project, though.............
-
Well, the "Scalpel Mini", is surely a cool looking kite, for sure
-
I kinda liked your "Pete's Down-Tronic" wind meter

John, I would love to help too, but I don't have a clue about working on websites. I've got the time, just don't have the know how !

tuning Pigtails (tuning your quad with knotted leaders)
Reef Runner replied to Sub706's topic in Quad Heads
Not to confuse things, but just up for discussion, last trip to the coast, I ran into a guy at the Wright Kite Festival, that did the exact opposite. He had short top leaders, and long knotted bottom leaders. Same results, he just preferred to do his adjusting from the bottom leaders, rather than from the top, as most of us do. Assuming that your benchmark is a "square-to-the-wind" set-up, you should achieve the same results, bringing the bottom of the kite in (more brake / less drive), as letting the top out (likewise, more brake / less drive), and visa-versa. Different strokes for different strokes, I suppose. I wonder has anyone else, run across someone, that made adjustments like this ?- 149 replies

Mini leaders (extend the life of your Rev leaders)
Reef Runner replied to Wayne Dowler's topic in Quad Heads
Hey Wayne, I'd sure love to see a picture of "what you're describing", when you speak of "mini leaders". For some reason, I just can't quite seem to visualize what you mean. I do make my own leaders, whenever necessary, out of single strands of 170# bridal line. I have a loop in the end of the leaders, where they are attached to the handles (via the Watty snag-less method), but otherwise, they are just long (12" - 15") pieces of bridle line, with maybe eight, evenly spaced knots. My bottom leaders are much shorter (3" - 4"), with maybe just two knots. When I make them up, I usually make up several sets at a time, as they are quite easy to make, and I'll have spares, should I ever need them. The hardest part is making sure that the knots are evenly spaced, but most important, consistently "placed", from the left leader, to the right leader. The part I don't understand about the "mini leaders", is where do you put them, and where do they wear out ? -
@ Andre Just curious, does your kite have a strong pull ? I watched the video, it surely appears fast, so I was wondering about the pull.... I have an Invento HQ Delta Hawk, which is also very fast kite (not sure how fast ?), however, it pulls like a Mack Truck, so how about your "Scalpel Mini"? Oh, and where did you come up with that name?.......... By the way - great job on building a super great looking kite ! It's kinda like a sports car, it looks fast, just sitting in the grass !
