Well, Lincoln City Fall festival has come and gone. It's hard for me to imagine having more fun then the last time I went, yet, there it is- I had even more fun then last year! Maggie Conrad as the new event organizer must have had a lot of help.. it went very well, except for the high tide. They made bio books for people with the fliers pictures and bio's in them. When they got them all signed, they got a prize. I iced my hands first thing this morning, they hurt so bad. lol It was great fun, it gave the people (not just kids) a chance to say hello to the fliers and made them feel like they knew us. This led to such an enjoyable weekend. We had the "blue people" and the "white people". The Blue people came on Sat. and had blue books, the white people came on Sat. and had white, as they ran out of the blue..... or so I thought. Then there were the blue/white people who had so much fun the first day.. they did it again the 2nd day. What a hit it was. Except for a little writers cramp I think all the fliers liked it. I expected rain.... and the weather was gorgous.. so now we know... Lincoln City in the fall is the place to be.. You can see beautiful kites, IQuad fly. Lam Hoc amaze the crowd, Al Washington dance his way across the sand w/ kite in the air.. me in my new fairy costume... which was a hit. Amy Doran doing Charlie Chaplan proud.. in her little black mustache. They had Bob Serack banners... ohhhh.. he's making me a banner! and The Brewers working their butts off for the kids and community. Gombergs putting on a show... with our Regional Director Linda Sanders.. and husband. Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oi Oi Oi. which takes me back a step to National Convention at Ocean shores. I didn't get there till Wed. due to my father-in -laws health. I missed the indoors I wanted to record, I missed the Master quad ballet.... but I did see some beautiful smiling faces oh.. and awesome kites. One of the first people I ran into was Mike Delfire (sp) I hadn't seen him in 7 years. It was good to see him and meet Alyson who placed and placed at Nationals... Go Alyson!! 1st.in Precision, 3rd in quad ballet.. Congratulations. Now I owe the Browns a BIG thank you. They put me up at their house. If you know me, I usually camp in my van.. I'm a person of few needs.. but they brought me inside and made me feel at home. Jenny Brown won and won and won too!! Wow, Jen.. I didn't know till I went in today to review the winners. 1st in percision, 3rd in innovative... and more! Way to go girl!!! it was kewl.. I stayed in the bar the first night and when it filled up I could visit, get a little video and meet the few people I'd not met before. IQUAD was causing trouble and discontent as usual. Patting IQuad stickers on to people while they weren't looking. Some of these same people laughed as they saw someone getting an IQuad sticker smacked on their backside... while unbeknownst to them.. they'd had one for 1/2 hour on their back.. I put one in w/my tip because our bartender felt left out. lol He was nice.. and I don't just say that because of the free samples. The next night a completely knew group was in the bar and it was great to just sit quietly and soak in all the bits and pieces of conversation. I think sometimes you can learn more in a bar full of kitefliers then in a classroom with one instructor. If you don't drink, you should still come in and visit. Lots of people drank soda's. The Fri. night banquet was good, ohh.. ohh.. I bought Scott Spencers garden! Fish and green rip stock on sticks.... It feels like a serenity garden while you put it up, then the kids get in it and play and it is just a park. I won the Bruce Leftler double delta conyne kite. Woo hoo.. I'm hoping to find that I will be able to do candy drops with it in the future. Thank you Scott and Bruce!! Sunday was a blow out... and I mean blow out! Sideways rain at 30 mph and I forgot my vented Rev. II. So I put up my rev II and flew it for a few minutes.. you can't let a day go by without flying a kite... then someone called breakfast and it was packed away.. as wet and muddy as I was. Well, this is a short version of what my month was like. I've got to get back to work. What did you do at nationals? Congrats to all the placers and players at Nationals. You deserve it! BB Penny

Lots of good tips! Try lowering your hands on the handle and see if you can't get a better feel of the kite through a neutral point of balance. The walking in the directon is great advice. Find your point of balance and move your whole body, rather then just the handles. Just another way to practice. BB Penny

Thanks, I was an over protective strict mom. It worked. They are both doing excellent. hehehe now I am a lenient, but manner onsious grandma. Devyn, Ayden, Sawyer and I flew kites in the dark this weekend. The only light we had when we were done was the one on 2 yr. old Devyn so we could find her in the dark. lol I've got Ayden on video saying, "Grandma that was the MOST DELILIOUS FUN EVER!" Amy, you must have a stack tattoo... hmmm.. wonder why I've never seen it. lol BB Penny

Ed is out of town. My great uncle and 2nd cousins are coming for the first time. Pray for Sun.. or an indoor place to fly as an alternative. Lots of great places to stay. Di a searcg on Lincoln City Kite festival and look for sponsors. One place we stayed had flower shaped hottub. Nice.. See you there! BB Penny

Spencer, and why not? I even have some video somewhere of my son and I getting tattoos. We had fun.. went back to get the video camera and walk in acting like we were drinking. We started in Georgia and had to go to Florida to get what we wanted. It was my son's treat. He was over 21 and not his first tattoo. I did warn him to wait till he's older because your body will stretch and so will your tattoo's. I've seen a few kite tattoo's. My mom who was anti tattoo most of her life didn't get one till she was in her 60's. A rose below her neck that covered up a birth mark. She should have done it years ago. It looks great. BB Penny

lol I have a red/white/blue flag indoor rev on my back shoulder. I forget about it most the time.. once in a while I see it in the mirror and it makes me smile. If I move my shoulder around it flies. Pictures ?~ I think we'll have to meet. BB Penny

At Ocean Shores this year. It's your ony chance to see the best of the US in 2007 compete. You can view outside for free. Inside and classes require registration. Well worth it to support AKA. BB Penny ~ who's going to miss the indoor. Father in law is having open heart surgery. -

Thank you wind.. oh and might I suggest baby names... "Era" if it's a girl.. means the beginning of a new time as one of the definitions. Now, I'm not going to compete at nationals. Since it's invitation only and I did not compete this year. Getting to go is a great perk though.. except for giving up those vacation days. I'm not going for the party, as I did at Seaside.. what fun!! I'm going to check out how our fliers are doing.. root them on, enjoy a class or two and visit w/friends. Rain or shine, I'll be in the area. Lets wish our N.W. fliers good luck... or your regional fliers.. If you need me to hollor to root on a friend, let me know.. I'm kind of loud. BB Penny -

I did it!! I get to go to Nationals.. I'll be there some time on Tue -Sun. It wasn't easy either.. I had to back my husband up against a wall and sell him on the idea.. I did it like Heather at work.... You know.... I'd be saving all kinds of money... because it is in my backyard... and I really do wish to record the indoor and quads.. a great learning tool. I have a place to stay free in Westport.. and I'll see where I land. Yeah, I'm going to Nationals! Now.. the hard part. Staying focused at work till I leave. oh boy! BB Penny .. Thanks for the good thoughts Syruss. -
Santa Cruz, CA 1st Kite Festival
Penny Lingenfelter replied to Penny Lingenfelter's topic in Scheduled Events
Santa Cruz was a fun experience. Rain w/no wind kept us out of the skies till about 11:00 AM. It cleared up and gave us a light wind. We could have used more to put the big kites up and really wow them. The boardwalk was awesome. On Sunday I sat and flew with the boardwalk as my back drop. while people on the boardwalk saw kites w/ the ocean beaches and sail boats as their backdrop. I Quad, To Much Fun, Air Zone and others were there. I did hear rumors of a future weekend event with music. Tracy and Jeff Erzin (sp) put a lot of work into this event. Scott Weiderman didn't make it. Jay did, and lots more. Kitefliers rode rides, played the arcade and visited though out the weekend. Ron Desjorado rode the roller coaster w/me. Wow.. I flew about a foot and 1/2 out of my seat on corners and ups/downs. One of the best roller coasters I'd I'ver been on. Then when we were stopped to get off they sent us out again! Whoooohooo.. We did a lot of holloring. lol When it was done... we were DONE. No more rides for me that day.... where did I put that dramine? One good thing, the roller coaster blow dried my wet hair and gave Ron a new hairstyle. Kelly, I hope your event had more wind and was as much fun as Santa Cruz. BB Penny -

Now that's my kind of kiteflier. BB penny~ who will find out today if she can go to nationals. I would never take you TOO seriously, I have seen the Seusical Musical in person a couple of times and have met and talked with you a few times in passing at the Brookings kite festival! I think you are a great ambassidor for the sport like John in that you are approachable and willing to help anyone out any time and show them the ropes, you even let me fly your indoor rev which was really cool! Kiting should be about having fun, if you ain't having fun, then you probably have one of the following problems: 1) You are flying a duel line kite with one line 2) You are trying to do a 180 trick into the wind 3) Your bridle is totally hosed 4) Your eyes are closed and you keep crashing your kite 5) You basically think that work is fun, and you just flew a kite to pretend like you had a life 6) You are just plain boring. I on the other hand love to fly, I love to share with others, wish I was better at it, always work to get any advice and would sell half of my soul to be able to fly as well as you, John or anyone on iQuad (BTW: I would only be selling the half that I am indebted to my wife for though) -
Thanks for sharing Arnold. I missed the event and it is one of my favorites. BB Penny

Hey Syruss, if you take me to serious, you might be taking kites to serious. Pointing and laughing is allowed. Laugh away.. it's good for you! When I fly I laugh out loud sometimes. Hmm.. The first article Elizabeth and I ever wrote for PCKA Kite Club we were introduced as "Slightly Crazy Revolution Kite Flyers". I still go by that. Derek, I would love to fly the kite. It looks great ~ with a wonderful concept. I'd like to see a one sky/one world Rev. with large enough picture to see. hmm? If we pass this word, there might be more peace on earth. We need that don't you know. Oh, and Derek, I would probably love to just sit and watch you and yours fly that beautiful kite.. while I'm resting, eating.. you know ~ necessary things in life. It's a beautiful kite. ooohhh more off topic... who's going to Nationals next week? I'm trying to work something out.... but I have to pass it by my husband first. I had a wonderfully fun weekend in Santa Cruz! Could have used more wind to put up more big stuff, but the boardwalk, rollercoasters, woo hoo, made a beautiful back drop to our kite flying.. and the ocean as our backdrop... it was sweet~ and a wonderful treat for me. Well, a purple and black B. kite is kewl. I like their white IQuad kites, ones too. Are they offering those? OH..that reminds me. I went through security at the airport. Afterwards I went to pull my MP# player out of my purse.. and wow.. my I Quad kite stake was still attached to it. It's what a 12-14 " heavy screwdriver w/ a sharp point. Oh.. they had signs all over that said there were fines for objects like this. I figured if I told them, 1, they'd fine me. 2, they'd take it away never to be seen again. So, I shoved it back down and left it. Steve said I should call the airline and tell them how the security failed there. What do you think? I don't want to be searched long and hard everytime I go to the airport. Well, Monkey! Monkey! I still haven't lost my Iquad dog stake. Thank you. I better go. Thanks for sharing your space. BB Penny ~ who really likes Purple and Black B series. -
If it's sick is that a good thing? lol BB Penny
-
I'm sweet and innocent.. or at least sweet.. No wait.. I'm innocent.. innocent I tell you! lol A B-series w/ 2 wraps would work but an indoor is easier. John.. when you going to stay home long enough to put my mystery ballet up? Santa Cruz on Sunday was awesome.. to bad you had to leave early. BB Penny

Chris, There was no one to show us how when we started. Still lots to be discovered too. BB Penny -
I told Amy in an email about Sharon's kites being stolen. Druggies, probably thinking they were skis. Sharon knew someone involved in drugs and they did some hunting around. They got a tip and were found around a dumpster. Put the word out down there. We all feel sick over this. There is no replace them. There is karma. BB Penny

Lucky you Chris! You gonna let me borrow it? BB Penny Theressa at the Kite Shoppe, , Cutting Edge, and Wind of Change, have been wonderful sponsors. Of course we try to send business their way. What about this? When ever you get a few business cards from a kite sponsor, bless them, write your name on the back of it and give it to someone. (Not someone who already buys from them regularly) Ask them to check out their stores on line or in person.. or Here is a fun challenge... Ask the person to write their name on it, first name only is ok..and pass it on o someone who may be able to help support your sponsor, someone can buy a Christmas Gift for retired Dad, kids.. you know.. It's not a contest, it's just a way to thank and promote our sponsors. Promoting our sponsors, promotes our Kite hobby-sport-passion, keeping the kite flying growing and vibrant. I've always wanted to have a surprise dinner for sponsors, too. Imagine who would be there. It would be a long list. Does anyone have any other ideas on how to thank our sponsors? OH OH.. I think I'm wayyy off topic. Sorry. Back on topic.. Flying by yourself helps you to develop your own style.. I think what your going through in life shows in your style and your style changes with other influences. Check out IQUAD going for quick precision too. Love it. Syruss, you could be the Medford Man. However; getting out to see other flyers in other areas is one of the best pieces of advice I was ever given. Kudos to John B. Thank you John, www.Kitelife.com video takes us there. Video and internet are great, almost as good as being there. Well, no.. but it's a great learning tool. BB Penny ready to go indoor. -
Woo Hoo. It should be an awesome weekend. Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007 on the Boardwalk in Santa Cruz. Ron Desporado promised to ride the roller coaster w/me afterwards. (I have dramine in my purse) Here is a link to the festival. they have an awesome line up. Looks like John and Steve L. are even coming down. http://www.erzin.net/KiteFest/index.html BB Penny

Sorry Syruss, I'm packing light. 1 kite bag and 1 large suitcase for 1 day of flying. Shouldn't even need a bell boy for luggage. Bet Sue Skinner will be glad to hear that, as she is picking me up at the airport. BB Penny /quote] Take me with you, LOL! I won't take up much space and I will be your kite porter hehehehhe I wish I had more time to drive to these festivals, but alas work interferes with life.
-
OH, I did not mean for you to have to change anything. Well, better get to packing for Santa Cruz's first annual kite festival. We should have it on the calendar. BB Penny

Fraying comes with kites. You can trim, maybe try a stop fray, but I doubut if it word work well. Any detergent recommended? I don't think so. Good luck. BB Penny

See you in Santa Cruz? Tell Claudia Steve and I said hello. BB Penny Rev on~ Buggy on~ Fly on~ When I grow up I want to fly like Dave Sabalino ~
