  1. That would be them Spencer. I'm going to look at a Son's of Norway conference room for Veterans Day. The coordinator had seen me fly the red/white/blue on 5 ft of lines at the Lincoln City Indoor Kite Festival and asked me to see if I can work around a 15 ft. ceiling w/ two chandeliersI could w/out hesitation on an indoor without even seeing the place, but my red/white/blue kite is a standard 1.5 and it requires checking out the space. On short lines it's easy to fly low ceilings, no overheads, if you have enough floor space. Or w/ an indoor it's easy to keep the kite overhead if you don't have much floor space. To me it's not as pretty as long lines by a long shot, but it's challenging, and perfect for those small kite venues. I think I have to fly inside today.. Oops Dad's B-day. Guess I better get going. Have a great fly day! BB Penny
  2. Many years ago, for some reason.. TT used beeswax on his lines. I'm not sure if it was to much, or just wrong.. but it didn't end well. BB Penny
  3. Once, A lady told me she didn't like the words "Eye Candy" for kites. The drug connotation's probably hit a nerve with her. There should be a hidden place on the internet, where they coud put all the bad kite puns we could think of and we could go see them, without public display. I don't mean your's, I've heard others. Some good, some bad. Iwent to the fair with the kids yesterday.. collections are still on my mind. BB Penny
  4. Theressa at the Kite Shoppe, , Cutting Edge, and Wind of Change, have been wonderful sponsors. Of course we try to send business their way. What about this? When ever you get a few business cards from a kite sponsor, bless them, write your name on the back of it and give it to someone. (Not someone who already buys from them regularly) Ask them to check out their stores on line or in person.. or Here is a fun challenge... Ask the person to write their name on it, first name only is ok..and pass it on o someone who may be able to help support your sponsor, someone can buy a Christmas Gift for retired Dad, kids.. you know.. It's not a contest, it's just a way to thank and promote our sponsors. Promoting our sponsors, promotes our Kite hobby-sport-passion, keeping the kite flying growing and vibrant. I've always wanted to have a surprise dinner for sponsors, too. Imagine who would be there. It would be a long list. Does anyone have any other ideas on how to thank our sponsors? OH OH.. I think I'm wayyy off topic. Sorry. Back on topic.. Flying by yourself helps you to develop your own style.. I think what your going through in life shows in your style and your style changes with other influences. Check out IQUAD going for quick precision too. Love it. Syruss, you could be the Medford Man. However; getting out to see other flyers in other areas is one of the best pieces of advice I was ever given. Kudos to John B. Thank you John, www.Kitelife.com video takes us there. Video and internet are great, almost as good as being there. Well, no.. but it's a great learning tool. BB Penny ready to go indoor.
  5. Hey you.. Actually Chris, You might find the shorter handles are best for the Rev II. I've even put them on the speed series. The longer handles will help to speed up a kite w/less movement and you don't need that with the faster kites. Rev II's Rock! Unless you want to play with the boys.. then it's 1.5 vented or not. BB Penny. i have expeirence with a rev 2, i own one, and for a ballet type flyer (iQuad style) i find the rev 2 to be quite unruly, and in reverse flight its quite difficult to control, and me being inexpierenced probably doesnt help. but that aside for a fun kite i highly reccomend it, its faster than the rev 1 and 1.5 esecially if you buy 2 or 3 wrap frame. and on a last reccomendation buy bigger handles or use your b series handles as the rev 2 handles are quite small and dont even come with pig tails stock i had to make my own.
  6. I spent a night in Medford 6 years ago-due to snow. It would be a good place to have an indoor fly too. Oh, and Ashland sounds wonderful. My folks are headed to their Condo down there in the next couple of weeks. I haven't been there since high school. I'd be up for a kite festival and a Shakespeare play on the side. BB Penny
  7. Yup, we all have our own styles. I dont' have a B series.. or ballast... yet. BB Penny ~Doing what she can so she can fly a kite.
  8. What is a kite ballast? BB Penny
  9. Thank you Baloo, wish John would find time to add my mystery ballet to the video's. It's my favorite so far.. Usually I don't like to watch video of myself, but I look at this one and think about how far I've come from just thinking, "Please stay up, please stay up." Syruss, great choice the purple and black. Now you have 100 ft. of lines. For a beginner 75-80 ft. will give you a better wind window. You won't have as much lag in the lines, better reaction time and control. Don't do it now.. Check out your lines and area. Later you will have a choice. Keep the 100 ft. or cut them down and make some short lines, too. Enjoy! Throw a kite festival. We're all looking for a reason to go to Medford... in the summer time. BB Penny
  10. There, I fixed it. I've got Santa Cruz's 1st. Kite Festival on Sept. 22nd, and Lincoln City Fall Kite Festival Oct. 13, -14th and then it's indoor! I can feel the excitement building. Anyone else plan on practicing indoors? BB Penny
  11. Yup, and kite tails will also add weight and slow it down. Plus it looks perty. BB Penny
  12. I've met several kite flyers from Medford this year. Seems like you ought to find each other. Yup, overcontrol. Take a look at your handle when you go into that quick reverse. If the front of your handle is down, and the back of your handle is up-almost even, then the kite has to be that way! So now you are just short of laying your kite down. The overcontrol on a reverse down is easy especially on the edge of the window, as they said, or in lighter winds. Yup, softer, smaller movements. Lean forward and let the air catch the tip and paste it back on the sky window. Learning to balance inverted is a summer job. Have fun practicing. BB Penny
  13. Now we're talking. We had the SOBB last weekend. Finally wind!! It was a great turn out of old friends and new buggiers. Our architechts, pilots, supervisors etc. made a tarp tent at the farm. A tarp tent city that any 5 year old would be proud of. lol Hey, it did sprinkle once... we might have needed it. Winds started out light.. and picked up quick. My SuperBlast was fun, then I was overpowered twice and tuned down the power to my small sky tiger. I put it in the bag and it flew great.. took it out and yuk! Something was wrong with it. Gordy thought it was probably the stretchy bridle. I thought it was line, since it flew so good prior to being bagged. Sure enough I found my lines were missing a loop of about 4 inches on one side. Wa la! problem fixed. Thanks for the help Gordy! Now, My Superblast was flying fine...on the same lines with 4 inches shorter on one. It's amazing how we can compensate for the difference. I didn't notice it flying bad, it would have been better though if they were even. Sunset Beach Bum Buggiers still rule the road at the edge of the Sea... Buggy on! Eli, Gabe, friends of friends, John and Lynn Maddeson, Lorna and Phil, new kids on the block Stacy and I think Ken? Of course John and Jay Ellis were there. Those trouble makers Jeannette Mandanas and David Jam were there, pushing duck farts (kulah, vodka, etc. on everyone! Oh.. those trouble makers! lol It was so good to see them. Duck and Paul were there, Ann, Brittany, Mike, Gerald, Donna, and so many more. This was the weekend I was waiting for. Pull out some kites and fly, and have a great get together at camp. I wanna do it again! BB Penny
  14. Usually a rod will take a lot of abuse before it cracks. I've seen your style Spence, you are a go getter with your kite. That quick style of yours is apt to get a few shin splints in those rods before they break. It comes with the territory, don't change your style, you are doing great. BB Penny
  15. but I didnt' get to say anything. Fine.. be that way-I didn't have anything to say anways. lol BB Penny
  16. If I am understanding you correctly, you have a two string stunt kite? If that is the case, when you spin, you should be able to unspin and still have control with twist in your lines. If it is a 2 string... you are connected to the left and to the right and that doesn't change. You would want to pull it when the nose is pointing in the direction you wish to go. Please let me know if it is a two string kite. Someone will have some good advice for you. Good luck. BB Penny
  17. Please refresh my memory. What is the upper wind range? BB Penny
  18. You da man! You are going to love that 1.5. BB Penny
  19. Long Beach was synonymous w/ Nirvana. Steven came for the weekend.. I'm not sure if it is his idea of vacation or not. "Honey, it's 5:45 AM, we have to go get our parking spot on the beach before they are all gone." He is such a good sport! Amy did her Charlie Chaplin routine and Jennifer did an "Annie" routine complete w/red curly wig. Everyone told ME what a great job I did. lol I had to tell them it wasn't me. Look out boys... you can compete, but the NW girls are the performers. lol You ladies rock! I did my skit on Sat. and gave lessons. It was so much fun meeting so many people. I liked to hear it when they came up and say... we were sent to you for a lesson. There was a lot of smiling and laughing going on in our lesson field. Then Ben had to catch a plane and took all his kites with him. hmmph. He did take them to share with others at his next kite festival. Go see him when he's in your area. This weekend, SOBB! Southern Oregon Buggy Blast... wish us wind so I can fly my Super Blast. BB Penny
  20. Oh Patrick, They are all at the beach having to much fun. I was there from Fri to Mon pm and I'm retuning in about an hour. Come meet us early on the beach while we set up. Andy -Kite Flying Fool- cooked us breakfast on the beach, and a burger later. A perfect day. It's just been perfect down there. Quad flyers~~We had 10 of us refueling and making pretty pictures in the sky. lol I've not needed a vented 1.5 because I fly my vented Rev II in high winds by myself. But if you want to play with the big dogs, you can't pee like a puppy. I left my smaller Rev II in the bag and manhandled my Rev. 1.5 standard in the brisk winds. I clipped my corners, but John showed me how to correct it. Kewl~ My 1.5 Standard w/no bridle which speeds it up a little more, did ok, while the rest of the flyers had vented. whehoo! IT WAS SO MUCH FUN!!! I should maybe put longer adjustments on my handle top to slow it down more. Well, I better go, Skitch--come say hello... early is best. Though since the boys have been playing on the beach for a few days they may sleep in a little. Have a safe trip down. Indoor WEd, Thur, Fri pm.Washington and ? 4th? BB Penny~Headed back to Long Beach~ Now, where did I put those rainbows?
  21. I'll let Steve know and see if we can hook up before I head down that way. BB Penny
  22. People who have the B-series love it. If I designed a "Penny Proof" kite...one that would take my abuse and all the beginners out there who try it.. It would have a 3 & 4 wrap set. 3 wraps are pretty study. 2 wraps make fantastic light Rev flying. Just not the first spar a new flyer should start with without realizing it's not meant to take the abuse that a 4 wrap can take. John's kite looks good and sturdy. We should see an army of them out there. People are loving it. BB Penny ~ wishing she had a better vocabulary. Great kite John!
  23. Hey John, I said "future" because so far I've only really seen Tristan at competitions. I've met more then a few serious compeitors who want nothing to do with demo's or shows. So, does he wish to show, or just compete? I've learned not to assume they all wish to show. Hmm, pay to fly in competition, or get paid to fly for show? I don't get it, but to each their own. BB Penny~packed for WSIKF.
  24. Hello, My husband contacted me about tempered glass they have if someone wished to make coffee tables, etc. I told him... kite makers use that! Please contact ASAP if you would like any of this. My husband would have to load it in my van by Tomorrow. I can bring something to Long Beach (hopefully it will fit) if anyone wants some. Plese let me know. Please pas the word quickly. This is what they have: Listed below is a list of tempered glass on site: (7) 40" x 38" (6) 47" x 38" (3) 43" x 38" 471/2" x 37" 451/2" x 37" 43" x 37" 42" x 37" 40" x 37" 11" x 38"
  25. I get no credit, other then designing the first one w/ similar design. It's adorable! BB Penny
