  3. WOW! I am really excited. I won the REV 1.5 vented package almost 10 years ago, ( Dec, 2008.) My son and I have really enjoyed it but it will be even better to be able to fly together now. Thanks so much, John, for the great prize. I discovered KiteLife online way back around 1998-99. It was very much instrumental in renewing my interest in kiting. I have been making and flying kites ever since. I have attended numerous kite making retreats, festival in several states and countries. I have taught at several retreats and kiting has been a part of mine and my family's life. I am proud to have been a supporter of KiteLife for all of this time. I am so happy that they inspired me to get back into kiting.

  5. Also note this kite has the wear strips all the way through the mesh (highly favorable), early mods skipped the venting. Nice kite for someone's bag!

  7. Spring and fall usually have the most consistent wind. Hang loose. Fall is almost here. As Wayne mentioned. Light wind flying is an acquired taste. You'll hate those days at first, but as you gain experience and skills you'll begin loving it. It takes a lot of learning to get to the point where you can fly when most others are grounded, but the satisfaction is so sweet!

  8. Alright folks, how about an overdue drum roll... Sorry for the 3 day tardy, we just got back from 4 weeks abroad (1 of those weeks being a last minute change), playing catch up on work now while we get over our jet lag and re situate ourselves at home. Ok, this sweet package is going out to one of our longstanding subscribers (#97), a huge congratulations to @GrantL!! 🙏 Thanks to all for their support, we'll work to get a new prize up ASAP. 😎

  9. Welcome to inland winds! It is hardly ever what the forecast says. That said - if you can fly in those conditions - you can pretty much fly anywhere! Low wind flying is an art, a skill, only learned by doing. Can it get frustrating? You bet. No fun going out , setting up, and not enough wind to fly. Good equipment helps, or rather the correct equipment. Yes, a light wind kite would work better in the conditions you describe. So will light and/or short lines. But the biggest tool is you! Knowing your gear is part of the battle, but knowing the techniques for low winds is all up to you. And it is only learned by putting your time into it.

  10. Don't be alarmed, the Kymera was designed to be a bit "old school" and be noisy. John wanted some sound, rather than silent like most newer kites.

  11. My Kymera is quite flatulent as well, in all but the lower winds. No expert, however, and have just a bit of time on mine. I commented on the lack of a leech line as a contributing factor above. Not necessarily a problem for me, but not a kite I want to pull out at some of the local neighbourhood soccer fields I frequent. It gets the dogs excited a bit Then again, so do some of Lam's designs. I have one of his early ATMs, which lacks a leech line. Reminds me of my ole TOTL SpinOff that way a bit. Some people really love that sound! BTW the wind range you describe does not seem excessive imo. And I think the kite is built well for it. .

  12. Yeah, I've spent the past few years flying quads almost exclusively, even though I started on dual line kites as a kid in the '80s before putting down the hobby for nearly two decades. When I stopped flying the Rev was still fairly new and way outside my price range with a job mowing lawns. When I came back to the sport about five years ago it looked radically different. Anyway, looking over my kite logs for 2018 gives me this: 29 days flying outdoor quad (and thinking about buying an indoor quad...) 15 days flying indoor dual 3 days flying outdoor dual (not counting today) On that note, I just came home from flying and had the numbers open from updating my log. I spent a half hour reminding myself how to fly an outdoor dual line on my Eruption because I'd rather break that than my new kites, then another 90 minutes or so breaking in the Kymera. I'll likely start on the Hydra next week. I'm not sure if the wind was too strong for the Kymera or I just never found the right adjustments. It kept making trailing edge buzzing ("kite farts") through most of the wind window so I kept adjusting tensions throughout the afternoon. Windfinder reports the wind was about 8G14 which matches the nearby airport's wind report that averaged 9, 7, then 9 knots over that time frame. With slight adjustments to the standoffs I reduced the buzzing, but never really eliminated it. I really don't want to stretch out or ruin the trailing edge of a brand new kite before it's really broken in. Does someone who knows the Kymera well (ahem, like @John Barresi ) know if that's too strong for that kite, or if it just needs more tuning love? The strongest gusts were probably near the upper end of the kite's listed wind range but I didn't feel like it was overpowering the kite.

  14. Yup, moderators are pretty vicious here . When you screw up it's like getting beat with a rose petal. Doesn't hurt much and you come out smelling okay.

  15. Things in life distracted me and I hadn't realized that it has been two years since I wrote anything. To those who were following me, I sincerely apologize. The good news is we haven't stopped flying our kites. I Hadn't Realized

  16. Thanks for all the replies🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻 Had such a good time. Flew the FV with Black Race really liked how it handled. My 3 wrap was in my other kite and it was too windy for me to be trying to get it out, God knows I had a hard enough time setting up lol. Amazing what difference a steady wind makes. Was able to fly on the last knot on the pro leaders, now I understand why everyone recommends them, such a huge difference from the stock leaders. Anyway just wanted to thank you guys/gals for all your feedback.

  17. You can fly the standard, but it will help stretch the sail prematurely and will be difficult to control. With time the sail will stretch no matter what wind you fly in, so to fly or not is your choice. I would fly the FV with #3 frame. I think with more experience you will begin to prefer vented over standard. They are much smoother, especially in gusty wind. However, if the wind keeps dropping under 10mph and then going back up in prolonged spells you may find it more convenient to fly the standard and just hug the sides or top of the window when it's blowing strongly.
