From the album: Riffclown's Homemades
Latest Pic of #81 in its new habitat. -
So Kite #85 is going to be a theme kite, Dual Perspective Mesh. It will start out in Black and White (Leading Edge Black with White Screen) quickly move to color, (Black and Rainbow) Some are "over the rainbow" and in the middle will be a Yellow Brick Pattern, almost like a road. Kite name will be NIKA. The Cool side has been sewn and will be the pattern for the Warm side. "Not In Kansas Anymore"

Djinn XT by Kite Forge (Feb 10th, 2021)
riffclown replied to John Barresi's topic in Current Drawings
That's OK. We have housekeeping.. -
Most all are based on the same wing shape but there are differences that stand out. The B-series is probably the most versatile kite Rev Made. It included a whole extra frame and different venting options. When Rev patent expired, they realized there was still a patent on their springs so every kite from Rev was suddenly equipped with springs. Now, Other manufacturers brought different things to the table for the most part based on feedback that Rev all but ignored over the years. Bazzer started lashing the uprights solidly locking them to the leading edge with none of the play of the bungee attachments of the classic Rev design. He also adjusted Venting options and placements to meet his flying preferences. He also added heat shrink to some bridle points to mask knots and reduce hang points. OSK took it a step further by implementing T-Connectors and eliminating the screen along the LE and using holes instead. They also added Wear strips which were a very common add on for Revs over the years. John (Kite Forge) listened to a bunch of feedback over the years including a lot of his own. He had a bit of a side bar going with reinforcements and wear strips. They went down the road of R&D completely based on his experience and came up with the Djinn.. There are many of the same features that were added to other kites over the years. They also added Integrated Wear Strips, LE Reinforcement Tabs, Slight shape changes to help with sail stability, and a bridle that seems to be unique among all the offerings. The Printed offerings bring pattern options that no one else can. I haven't flown a Detox but I do have a few printed sails that fly quite nicely. What follows is my opinion only. IMO what each of these options brings to the table. Bazzer locked the uprights and set development on the path for "T" connectors. OSK, stepped up the QC game and brought even lighter sail materials to the game while at least initially dropping the price point for a quality sail. John and Kite Forge stepped up with some great stability changes and brought a great new bridle innovation to the table.

3 Words.... OUT FOR DELIVERY!!!!!
-
FWIW, I guess the inquiry process works to some extent. After 10 days in the system and no updates, I finally got a scan response. It brings hope this may get delivered after all.

I'll don't think I'll ever be able to fully trust The United States Postal Service with a kite again. After weeks of work and careful packaging, the post office accepted my Kite and promptly made it vanish the same day. It has not been scanned a single time outside the originating post office. Foolishly, I did not think to insure it and reading the fine print, my maximum refund will be $50 and that doesn't include the $14 they charged me to lose my package. That is not refundable. SO, if I do pursue the claim when that time comes, I sold my kite to the United States Post Office for 1/10th of its value and 1/4th of its material cost. Now, I"ll have to try and duplicate the most extensive build I've done, just to try and break even on materials cost. Labor is out the window. The intended recipient should not have to bear the costs since he did not receive anything. I don't expect extra due to a circumstance outside either of our control. I will only say that moving forward, my kite prices will increase by $25 to cover the extra expense of INSURANCE for twice the value of the kite every time or handling through a reputable company like FedEx or UPS. (with insurance of course.) If the post office ever loses another kite, they'll be paying for this one too. I've done this out of joy for making kites and not as a profit thing. Every penny I've gotten so far went back into materials to make new ones. This was an unacceptable loss and a complete loss of trust for the United States Postal System. #What has the UP Post Office lost for your today??

@frob As stated, I use both sides of the fabric and have very little waste. I let my patterns work themselves out as you already know. I've played with the grain and created kites where specific diamonds flash in the sun at a different point than the rest of the sail. I'd rather have 3 great sails than one perfect one and a bin of waste. Especially at the end of 120' lines, the 3 Stack looks better. I've even started taking the trim from my mesh kites and making tails I hate waste so much.. Since I know this kite is for you and a specific purpose, I'll just say, given when you'll be flying it, I'm not sure most people will notice which panel is in front or back. Make it what you want it to be..

Same here. I like the Skyshark P2x Camo and P4X Camo frames. I cut and ferrule them myself. Less than $5 a spar and comparable to Rev IMO.. If you do get to fly with @Bunduki Vlieger He has one of them you can look at or at his discretion, try out.

I like the Djinn as well but these days I mostly just make my own..
-
You do have the best all around kites Rev made. IMO better than their current offerings. FWIW, I sold my XX and Spider RX and kept my B-Series.

Sounds like you need a couple of C-Stoppers. They would keep each side from pushing the other side out.. You could also Make a sleeve from plastic. (Straw, Tubing etc) and glue it on at the appropriate spot.
