  1. If you still haven't found your answer...you might trying posting the question over at the GONE WITH THE WIND forum......I bet one of those guys can answer you quickly and will probably give you more info than you need. Some of those guys are deep with knowledge. Just a thought. P
  2. Nice stuff... This guy is pretty good.....anyone know who he is? Rev tricks
  3. You mean something like this..... John Freeman's Graffiti kite It's not a Quad but the art was inspired by Graffiti at the local skate park. Graffiti art would look great on a quad sail. P
  4. I started flying SLK's back in the late 90's on trips to Long Beach, WA.......how can you not fly kites when you visit that place a lot. Started with basics and then got hooked. Got into bigger and bigger SLK's and always just watched the guys flying duals and quads. Then I went to my first WSIKF a few years ago and really got into watching the folks flying Revs. I had to try it. Went to the Rev area and tried it out.....up...flip right and crash....time after time. It did not go very well. (Actually think it might have been Penny that was manning the display area at the time.) Kept watching over the next few months and then caught a few guys flying Revs again at the summer festival in Lincoln City...damn it looked fun. Spoke with John and Ben briefly while at that festival and then could not take it anymore. I walked across the street and bought a 1.5 SLE.......and ya know what? When I finally got the courage to actually put it together and try to fly it...it wasn't so bad. Not only did I pick it up pretty quickly (just the basics.....) but I was amazed at how many people came around and helped me learn. One guy really helped me out at Ocean Shores and I CANNOT remember his name but I really appreciated it. His help boosted my abilities and allowed me to move along much quicker. I still only have the one Rev...but I've flown it quite a bit and am always looking for a chance to put it in the air. I've got a bunch of older duals in my collection....never even tried to fly them yet. I really want to get good with that Rev first. Standin' out there on that beach by myself, early in the morning with no one around....flying that kite......it really takes me away. All the stress and worries just go away for a while. Sure wish more people would give it a shot. That's the story I'm stickin' to. P
  5. Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll look into all of those! They sound pretty good. As far as work.......Outside sales for the last 5 years...before that rest. management and bar management in fast paced or upscale establishments. I was in the rest. biz for years in New York, LA, Denver and Seattle........ Actually tried to buy a bar in Long Beach but could not get it together before they took another offer. Would have been great and would have definitely gotten it involved with the Kite scene........Big space could have been used for meetings, dinners, auctions, ??????.....oh well. Thanks again, P
  6. I've heard in the past that the kind folks at Revolution will sell you a basic, blank white sail. I would imagine that it would be for people that want to design their own graphics....etc. How does one go about getting one of these??? Also, will they build them in any color you want? Are they finished sails ready to fly with the addition of sticks, bridle etc? Inquiring minds want to know..... Thanks everyone. Patrick
  7. Just a quick question here. I would like to make my own sail for a Rev style kite...(for my own personal use, not to sell and of course would use Rev brand bridle, sticks etc.etc.etc.) I see a lot of people making them lately with some pretty cool designs. This is what I would like to try. My question is this......does a sail made from a single piece of cloth lose any performance over a sail with the standard seems/panels? I know that John discussed the design of the B series and mentioned the effects of the way the panels were situated on the kite. I also remember reading somewhere that the seems from the panel help the kite dump wind in an orderly and beneficial way. However, I also see that many of the older Rev 2's and some of the others were designed this way. I won't be competing with this sail but would like a kite that will perform well and look good at the same time. If I ever get to the competition stage I would of course use the Official Revolution kite...probably a B series. Oh, does the applique (sp?) on these custom sails ever cause any unwanted effects on the performance. I would think that this question would hold true with Rev kites as well. Does a Designer series kite compete as well as a standard or B. series kite when really putting the kite through the paces???? Thanks, Hope it's OK to ask these questions. Don't want to upset the Rev folks at all.. :confused!: ..just thought it would be fun to try and add one of these sails to my homemade kite collection. Take care, P
  8. Hello all...I hope this is the right place for this. I have recently become Career Challenged...(ie.quit my job over an issue of principles and have not found another yet). We usually spend a lot of time on the coast here in WA...generally in the Long Beach area. I'm jonesin' pretty bad and need a "beach break". I know a lot of you camp out there when attending different events, workshops, festivals etc. Are there areas you recommend, do they cost much and has anyone ever camped out there during the late winter/early spring? Could be a little rough with the storms etc. Any help would be appreciated. Also if anyone knows of a cabin or small house that might be for rent (cheap) during the off season that would be appreciated as well. If anyone is hiring in the area...I'm available. Seattle, Tacoma...etc, etc, etc. Take care all and I hope you are all ready to dust off the kite bags after a long winters nap. Patrick
  9. NO WAY!!!!!! I can't believe this........sorry to see Erv go. What a great guy always willing to help and talk. I know we will still see you on the fields. Everyone in the NW should try to stop by and let him know that we appreciate him sticking it out over the years. Hey, maybe buy a kite from him as well!!! We'll miss ya!!! Patrick
  10. Penny, Are you actually saying that you don't have Duck Tape and Super Glue in your kite bag? I'm surprised. By the way..in a pinch, Duck tape (or duct tape as it is officially called) is a great band-aid in a pinch.....for those occasional line cuts.
  11. SKITCH

    STOLEN KITES

RIGHT ON!!! Congratulations......!!!!! I'm sure everyone was keeping their eyes open and there is no way those kites could have been flown anywhere around the NW without problems!!! Good things come to good people. P
  12. SKITCH

    blast stack

You need to get some video of that........I'm sure we would all like to see you getting abused by the wind!!!! P
  13. Hiding in the dark waiting to watch you all anguish over the fact that I added a new Quad to my bag!!!
  14. Hello All...I'm excited that I am finally SURE that I am going to go to WSIKF again this year. For a while I was on the ropes and although I'm not getting there as early as I had hoped...my family and I will be getting there sometime Thurs. afternoon and staying until Sun. Who's there and who will be there??? I would love to meet as many of you as possible and I was wondering if maybe an "impromtu" Kitelife get together might be in order???????? Any takers or ideas? I hope maybe we could even get the Iquad guys and John to get involved. I would suggest one of the local places in town like Nick's West...but I know we have underage folks here and I certainly do not want to exclude them (Watty if you need a ride...just call me....I'll email my cel phone #) Maybe one of the pizza joints in town, another restaurant, ?????? If we had rented a house this year I would volunteer that .... but we did not. SOOO...seeing as this is one of the largest get togethers on the West coast...let's take advantage. What do ya'all think. AND, I'm hoping to get a Rev lesson or two from some of you pros.....! Patrick
  15. Gotta' read that fine print... Not really fair to beat up on the retailer if it was stated right on the page. Many Rev flyers....Many kite flyers in general have many kites of the same type and know the line they like to fly on. Just think...now you can order that B Series and not have to worry about line!!
  16. That's a fun looking kite. How do they fly compared to a Rev????? Similar look but I would imagine a little stiffer since they are "thicker" through the middle???? P
  17. Anyone in the area come out and support the cause....nice festival held by the Pierce County Kitefliers. Here's the link for directions and such..... http://www.pcka.org/PCKAOrtingKitefest.html Take care, P
  18. They are alllllllll gone..........!!!!!!
  19. Penny, do you have an address for the location? Thanks, P
  20. Penny, I don't fly duallies but I would love to help if you need me. I'm not that good at the REV yet...but it could be fun to let the kids fly it...I know enough to go over the basics. I could also put up quite a few SLK's if you need that kind of display. Just let me know. If Tammy is in town I'm sure she would love to help as well. Is there another festival going on at the same time? Don't know what or where "Stephenson" is? I could also help you reach out to some local dual line fliers if you need it. Take care, Patrick
  21. Hey Penny, I'm sure going to try....wife and daughter have something going on...so I might get over there solo......That's OK...gives me more time to focus on practicing...I will definitely take advantage of a lesson from you if you have the time!!!! Probably have to head back earlier than normal. Hope to see you......if it's raining badly in the morning I might not make the trip....but ???? Patrick
  22. yeeeee haaaaa!
  23. Come on QUAD......you know it's just a matter of time...you'll get the 14 more!!! It's only money anyway!!!! Who you kiddin'! Hope you all get to fly this weekend....have a great time. P
  24. ANT....I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT YOU STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED THAT KITE!!!!!! I HOPE THEY ARE AT LEAST TALKING TO YOU BY NOW. (By the way....looks like you figured out how to animate your pic......looks good.)
  25. Does anyone know how to get in touch with the folks that used to run White Bird Kites? Thanks, P
