  1. 3 shades - medium outsides, dark stripes, light middle, back to medium for the center!! It will be BLUE!!
  2. Heard from Lolly - it should be in my hands and ready to fly at my Thanksgiving Black Friday Fly!! Yeah baby!!!
  3. Keep it around long enough, it'll find a place in your bag!! On other's recommendations, I changed LEs ASAP! Gave some race ends to a friend and he says it's a whole different kite with the stiffer LE. Just really never liked the way too flexy stock rods. Make great verts though.
  4. Rob: did you still have the Zen frame in it? That adds to that effect too! The spongier rods flex so fast into position, they do feel "locked". Try the stiffer hybrid LE or sticks on it or both and you'll see a big difference! PS: I weighed my hybrid frame and a Zen frame - the Zen frame was 12 gr HEAVIER! I am also trying sticks on mine to further stiffen things up! Makes the sail much more efficient and puts all the flex at the ends of the LE, not in the center!
  5. Tends to do that in gusts I'll bet? Remember, the Zen has a pretty narrow wind range, that "locking in" happens more at the top end of it's range!
  6. Been watching her growth as a confident flier!! Next up - megafly!!!
  7. I'm floored!!! Just got home from an indoor flying session and my phone was flashing a message signal! It's from Lolly, telling me that one of the family has contacted them to make me an Indoor Rev!!! ME??!! My choice of colors too!! You don't know how many hours I've spent dreaming on that colorizer, all the while my budget says nope ain't gonna happen! And yet it is happening!! Now!!! Thank You to whomever you are!! I will fly it with as much passion as the one I have now and honor the spirit in which it was given! Still in disbelief ....!!!! Again - Thank You!!
  8. My guess? They look like iQuad team kites from a couple of years back! Best bet is to ask JB if this is true, find out if the mid was made, who's they were, and after that - good luck! PS: I think green was Monkey's color!!
  9. Our demos went really well! My solo demos were in nothing winds, so out came my Zen for those! Saturday, we did 2 routines - our own and a 4 pak version of the "Champions" routine! Sunday, 3 of us did some free style follow and moves! Not bad considering the strong winds! Don't sweat the channel thing, there are plenty to use. We just changed to something open to practice! However be aware that using the wiring setup that lets you use an iPod, locks that channel to be listened to by everyone on that channel! If you turn on first! We just found one open to use. Usually there are only 2-3 channels in use out of the 7-8 in the low range of our radios! Hi power channels are supposed to require a license to use, don't think anyone has one! Island Quad always on ch 8, iQuad used to be on ch 10, we use ch 11 if open! Not sure what channel Phoenix uses! PS: my lines had at least 150 solid hours of flying time on them, would have gotten more I'm sure, but things happen! PSS: Thanks for the loan of the sail!! Only flew it once as the wind kept building!
  10. There's hope for everyone that picks up a Rev!! It's a matter of putting in the time to learn it! Some do, others don't, it's not something that just comes naturally! (Well for most of us!) But it isn't so complicated that it can't be tamed, then controlled, then partnered with, to make a strong combo of flier and kite! Nothing replaces - Time On The Lines!!!
  11. For more indoor videos - check YT under - WSIKF, Windless, Milton, or Lincoln City! Might also be some from last years AKA convention comp!
  12. I thought I recognized that quad on the ground!! I remember you saying you had gotten a Rev, and no, it definitely wouldn't have survived the Delta day we had! Nice spot to fly!!
  13. Missing about 2/3s of the fly with a set of broken lines!! Earlier had wrapped with an SLK's tail and think my lines were partly cut and then high wind just popped them! Got in on the last bit of action after getting some other lines out and while at it, switching kites! But missed being in the video! Sorry!!
  14. Send the transporter unit!!!
  15. Got in this right at the end! Had to deal with a set of broken lines, right as this was coming together. Got some new lines, set up, and just made the last bit of it!!
  16. I don't remember the bag mine came in, but it was set up to leave the lines attached, wound on the handles, and stored as a single one piece unit! You could put the winders together, wind the lines to the kite, breakdown the kite, put everything in the bag!
  17. Well now that's simple enough most times!! Practice that untangling stuff before the fest, so you'll be good at it! (Shouldn't need it in my line) - NOT!!
  18. OK, I'm looking at this and seeing that one set of lines is out and we're having issues with a second pair - one pair strung out. the other is twisted, Is this right? Are we doing the "one pair over another pair" style winding? I'm guessing that is true and you're having problems with one pair! Why so many twists? Did you take care on winding each pair up? Use two different styles of winding to keep them apart on the winder? I used to wind both pairs - one pair at a time - on a single winder, at one time! Don't do it now after a word from JB! If this is what I think it is - PM me and we'll talk about it!
  19. Yep - super glue works, just mark the halfway point, start the ferrule in the rod, glue and slide into place. An easy way to mark halfway is to use masking tape right up at the mark. All the excess glue will end up on the tape, easy to remove tape and have a clean joint. Check afterwards to make sure the rods butt up clean, if not, dress with a file or sandpaper.
  20. First - Welcome! Good choice on a standard for your first sail! It does have a big wind range and does well in the lower reaches of that range, but! As Nick pointed out, flying in wind so low can be frustrating for a beginner. No fun trying to learn how to fly and keep the kite in the air long enough to get somewhere. A good "learning wind" is 5-10 mph, much lower you struggle to fly, much higher you can't control things. Keep an eye on the leading edge of the kite, if it bends too much - either fly on the edges of the window or put up something else! Flying in too much wind will stretch the sail and once stretched, well it isn't going to unstretch!! Some take to the flex of the race rods quick, some don't! Everyone is different and has their own personal likes and dislikes. They are light, they are strong, no worries there. It's just adapting to the flex of them that is unique. Save for a full vent next!!
  21. Paul - I have to agree with you on one thing - The Zen is a bus! But I'll qualify that by saying this - I bet most who have tried the Zen, didn't fly a Rev 1 either! It takes a different touch to coax the magic out of one! It isn't all snappy and acrobatic as a 1.5, but more graceful and stately. It feels solid against all floaty. Some would say boring, I say different! And I think that's the key - different! Many come with certain expectations only to feel letdown when things don't live up to that level. As someone that learned on a Rev 1, it just comes natural to me. The bigger (or smaller) movements a person makes to fly one don't throw me a curve, like others that have tried one! That said, it's all a personal thing between a flier and their kites, what works or suits them, may not you! I'm happy with mine, I know you are with yours!! Rob - Paul takes good care of his stuff, I'd take him up, if he's willing to let you test out his kite! Don't like - you're only out postage. Like and a trade is out there - you decide!!
  22. Congrats Robin!!
  23. Rob - you KNOW that as soon as it escapes your hands, the winds will totally drop!! My advice - start saving for the X/V!!!
  24. In the immortal words of Aerosmith - " Dream On!!"
  25. I had my own exotic winding method until JB and I had a talk! Then I practiced on a short line set and kept moving up to longer sets, until now all my sets are wound in his style! Sure beats fighting the lines and getting setup, only to be in a bad mood when done! Once you master that winding method - OWN IT! Do it exactly the same EVERYTIME you break down after flying! Make it a habit (and if you can - never let someone else wind your stuff up), that way you only have yourself to blame if mucked up!!
