  1. I weigh less then you and I've flown 6 packs and even 12 I believe. I always walk off the beach with my arms about an inch longer then when I started and my knuckles trailing on the sand. they pull just that much. Yeah, I haven't even played with a stack this season. Time to tie a few together. Have fun with the 4 stack. The line sounds good. Are you using adjustments on the handles? BB Penny
  2. Of course you should fly indoor John. Everytime I see you fly indoors you improve. Hey, My edit button is gone again. BB Penny
  3. I wish I could go. That's two years in a row that I've thought I might make it and then can't. I've got two grandsons all week till Sunday, and mommy won't let me leave the states with them. You all have fun, I guess we'll settle on the school yard to fly kites. BB Penny
  4. Doug, You enemies? Come on now. Why stop at 3? 6 is the most impressive stack of Rev II's. Just ask anyone. I love to fly a stack of twos. I think I might have to put one together with whatever I have in my bag. BB Penny Hey John, I have 3 buttons now. Edit, report and quote. 3 out of 4's not bad.
  5. I have to catch up on the kite post later. Yup, vented Rev II weather in Lincoln City today. I would have loved to have stopped and flown. Want to know some ways to practice a square? lol later. It was so wonderful to see everyone at Brookings. It's going to be a highlited memory for a while here. BB Penny
  6. Woo.. yes secrets? Mousie... ahh. you might have one? John... Report and quote are the only two blue buttons on the right hand side. Brookings was spectacular. So much fun. We just got in the door and got to run to bed. Steve, nice meeting you at Brookings. Amy, email me. Rick.... watch out... Now it's time to start looking for 2 routines for next year. Anyone have any ideas? BB Penny
  7. Kirstie, I'm so sorry! Kirstie, Kirstie, Kirstie..... I went and looked at the post, but with my eyesight.. it's still a guessing game as to what I'm really seeing. Brookings! Woo Hoo! Here we come! I wub you gus too! Hope Grandma is doing better. BB Penny
  8. John, I only have two buttons on the right hand side of each of my post. I know edit use to be there. But it's not. Carl.... how are we gonna find a way for you to save me from babbling on the forum? Rick... you lazy cody flyer. Obviously we need to see you making larger Cody's and so some sky surfing. Your just way to comfortable on the beach. Now, who's got a secret they can share about Rick? BB Penny
  9. Hey John, Where's my edit button? I can't find it. BB Penny
  10. I saw you Rick! heheehe Quad exercise? !) Practice your turns up high. 2) Practice your reverse down low. Most spars are broken by trying to turn the kite to close to the ground, and the tip hits at an angle...end into the ground. Spars will last for almost ever if you crash them straight down rather then on an end. We'll start with a large Circle Full Wind Window, making large circles as an example here are just a few ways to make a large circle. Forward : Leading: Edge going first. Reverse : Back Tips leading the way. Slide Circle : Pulling on just one handle to turn it.The leading edge facing the ouside throughout the making of the large circle. Inverted Slide Circle : Leading edge facing the inside of the circle. Using a lot of thumb pressure to keep the reverse thoughout the circle. The secret to reverse circles is a change in the flying at about 45% of the circle. Forward Slide Circle : Facing 12:00 Kite stays stationary facing 12:00 as it completes the large circle. Reverse slide Circle 6 O'Clock Facing 6:00 The kite stays stationary facing 6:00 in a complete circles. The reason I call these slide circles is due to the direction the kite is facing you actually physically slide the kite around to where you want it. Sometimes this is labor intense. Remember it's whatever it takes. Also, when I say push down with thumb, I don't mean straight up and down... that does not change the plane or tilt of the kite. Sometimes people push it like it's a remote. I have to tell people there's not a magic button there. lol but I digress. Use your wrist , which makes the bottom handle pull and tighten that bottom line. Brakes.. stopping and holding it still. Pushing on your thumbs to find the neutral spot where it's not traveling forward or to much pressure making it go backwards. Practice holding the kite on spot. Find a cloud. Speed control... keeping enough pressure on your thumbs to control how much forward you give it. Try actually pushing the kite fast forward and then putting pressure on your thumbs to slow it down see how fast & slow you can make it go. Reverse. This is where I tell people reverse kiteflying is the exception to the rule. Practice your reverse down low. Start your launch facing 6:00. Power Launch: 1 lines are tight.. step back if you have to. 2 arms are long. Don't have your elbows at your sides. Step back and extend your arms this gives you twice as much vertical motion then when your elbows are bent. For a reverse launch.. Put your thumbs close to gether. Push your thumbs down stepping back at the same time to make the launch a breeze. Pull lightly on your left handle and the kite will go Right, Pull back lightly on your right handle and the kite will go left. It's magic! No.. it's reverse. Practice going up high in the sky and walking forward. That will come in handy in many ways. Snap Turns.. pushing hard on a handle to turn it quickly. Slow turns.... how long does it take you to do a 360? 1/4 & 1/8's on spots.. So.... there's a little on a few ways to practice a cirlce with a Revolution Kite. I recommend practicing every chance you get. lol I think my next article should be; NightFlying #101 How to put a Rev. together in the dark, when you can't see anyways. I've got that down too. Well, I got to vent.. now I need to go pack and get a little fly in before Brookings this weekend... woo hooo!!!!!! Good Flying. Oh, would you like to learn how to walk it? There's all kinds of ways.. and it's pretty darn easy.. at least 30 % of it is. I better go. ~ We'll be back~ Now Ricky Poo... . where are you? Best Breezes Penny www.pennyrev.com Wing tip turns. Hold one thumb down hard enough to hold the wingtip still and let the wing keep moving forward. Reverse wing tip turns. Hold one thumb down enough to hold the wing tip still and push harder to reverse the other wing in a reverse circle. Reverse circles are considered more advanced. Practice basic straight up, straight down and stop!
  11. Kirsty, Kirsten, Kristen, There are as many ways to mispell the name as there are check machines in the grocery stores. Their one of the Grrr's in life. They had to make all of them different. lol Your being different is a good thing Kristie. BB Penny
  12. lol ok, Kirtstie... Carl ... are you on top of that? More to come, huh? ok.. Tks! BB Penny
  13. Rick!!!! I'm not telling anyone yet. We're not even ready. Lots of pictures to get up one day, and lessons, and advice... and ramblings. lol ok, Maybe Carl will save me from myself and we'll leave the ramblings off. I need pictures of costumed flying. Era, my daughter and grandkids are leaving in Sept. I told Carl, LLama guy, that I would get more involved in creating my web page once they move away. Right now time with Era and the grandkids are precious. I like the videos better anyways. Go to www.indoorkiteflying.com and check out the Lincoln City video or Kitelife Demo's... again Lincoln City. Brookings, OR always has 1-2 mph wind which makes my flying ugly as we combat the wind... .no wind..... flying conditions. We go back this Friday for that festival. Wonderful festival!! Now don't tell anyone about the site Rick.. not yet.. Shhh... My email should be working here, too. Mousie.... email see if it works. Tks! BB Penny
  14. If you need to email w/instructions on the new mission. My email is now working. I think. <_< BB Penny
  15. I posted a report instead of a reply and have been to busy to rewrite it. It's wonderful to hear she's got the stints and is doing better. We've been keeping an eye on the post. Let us know when she's recuperated. xoxoxo Penny
  16. Don't forget to ask them to put Fragile stickers on at the check in counter. And remember it will be int he odd size p/u claim not with your suitcases. Some of the Route 66 members are out there, doing a lot of flying and traveling. J.J. comes to mind... Anyone know how to get a hold of them? BB Penny
  17. Congratulations to Team Cutting Edge for winning World Cup. I know John will have an awesome article in Kitelife, but lets shout some hurrays now. This is the most challenging competition out there for a team and no small matter. I remember when the original Cutting Edge Kite Team started and when Jim & Monica Barber came on the scene. I don't think the girls were even in school and one is graduating this year. Monica & Jim flew side by side on the team for many years. There was a break or two over the years, and new members, but Jim was persistant and it paid off. It's not a fluke, it was years of practice. They didn't deserve it because of the practice. They won it due to the practice. They are an inspiration in the kiting world. Oh.... and you can visit their stores in Ocean Shores.. Cutting Edge Kites and Monica's. Our favorite stores on the west coast. Yeah Cutting Edge Kite Team!!! Kudo's to the family's that supported chasing their dreams. May you all reap the rewards from your success. God Bless you! Keep looking up! Best Breezes, Penny
  18. Kevlar.... I hadn't heard that word in a while. Yup.. I even saw a slash on someone's face. Said to be a real mean line. You know who might like it is fighter kite flyers. They use glass line, but I'm not sure if they use kevlar. Congrats on the Rev. II. BB Penny
  19. Godric you were that close and didn't say hello? That's ok... I heard it through the grape vine I wasn't going to be there... because.... and listen to this. I forgot to post it in kitelife forum. BB Penny
  20. Your welcome Jerry, I know you'll enjoy your kite. I had a super blast at Lincoln city! (That's a big revolution you know) It was kind of sad not being able to give more lessons on Sunday, but I knew they needed me for more demo's in the lighter wind. I did manage to give some no wind kite lessons on dual handles and one handed handles. Woo hoo! Even young 3 yr. old Ben Lemas had the launch and landing down pat on the one handed handle. No wind is not the best condition to give lessons, it can lead to such frustration, but they had fun trying. Jerry, I'm soar.. and tired... today... How are you two holding up? Yup, Soft sand is a dirty word. BB Penny PS Be sure and ask any questions you need to ask.
  21. Ayden and I (My grandson) surfed Ann's web page. We really enjoyed it. Tks for sending us that way. Now we've got to go see that everlasting Gobstopper. BB Penny
  22. Pink is fine and kewl and dandy, but hey boss.. Don't be seeing red. We don't want you getting burned out and not be able to access the forum and that groovy magazine. OK..... (the mommy coming out in me) John, Don't overdue it! xoxoxo Penny
  23. Kewl, who is representing Windzup & Ozone Theresa? There's a few people I'd love to come down and watch. Maybe even more then a few. Tell them I said hello. BB Penny
  24. Fly a kite and they will come. The beatle is great, but now I'm hearing (so this is hearsay) that there is a newer kite out there that is as sturdy as the beatle, but has more versatility? Is this true? Inquiring flyers want to know. Theresa, Scott? Do you have any answers? BB Penny Oh, welcome GW. Could the problems you had keeping the kite up be that there was only one line to hold it up? I need 4 strings, or they won't stay up hardly at all. Just kidding. It could be the wind wasn't quite 7-8 mph, but a little under 5 and the kite was heavy... so getting up higher to find stronger wind without interruption would take some work. That's why some people run or move backwards while they launch, in order to create their own ground air. Even when the wind is blowing fairly well, I have people reach down and feel the air near the ground. It seldom blows down there. Probably because of obstructions. I don't know. But I do believe in a power launch in the beginning. Kiteflying is so versatile, there's something for everyone in it. Enjoy what you can GW. Yup.. got to say it. Keep looking up! BB Penny
  25. I heard we had a kite surfer on the Kitsap Penninsula in WA last week and they called medics out. It sounded like it might be just due from fatigue, but I've no idea. Anyone here here anything? BB Penny
