  1. Cool, literally. Glad you guys had fun. Photos are awesome. Post more if you have some. Deke, I'm looking forward to flying some with you this year at Busse when you're in the area.
  2. And don't assume that an 80-ft is exactly 80 feet long. Some are shorter and some are longer. Measure twice, cut once. Same for all lengths. Remember that when you form six-inch loops at each end you shorten the finished line length by a foot, so you must compensate for it. In addition, the length of the leaders you have on your handles will make a difference. So, if you have a set of 120's that have stretched and long leaders, you can be two feet longer than the people you are flying with.
  3. Every time. But someone else always has one that's winninger.
  4. Congratulations, Andrew. @John Barresi Since you're sending a B2 to Andrew, I'll take the Midvent from this drawing. Ok?
  5. Most people go with 30's, so if you want to cross lines with someone else on shorties that's the way to go. I prefer 40's for that little extra bit of window when I'm flying alone, but have a set of 30's to play with others. 50's will give you even more window. Depends on if you fly alone most of the time or with others. Ideally, wait until your 120's are wearing out and you're about to replace them and cut your old set down to whatever you want.
  6. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
  7. You will be impressed. You will learn so much your brain will want to explode. You'll grin like a fool for days afterwards. Ask questions. Prepare a list beforehand. Don't forget to breathe.
  8. When cutting tubes I have often cut them a bit longer than necessary, up to 1/2 inch. You can easily cut that 1/2 inch off, but adding some when it ends up too short is a real pain.
  9. Fear not. Accept the inevitable.

    Best Wishes

    Merry Christmas, everyone.
  11. Whatever you get, make sure you don't duplicate what you already have. Get something that will fly in a higher or lower wind range, or that has different flight characteristics. P.S. -- What khsidekick said. Try some of his before you buy, and get his recommendation for the winds that exist in your area.
  12. Great video. Great people. Great smiles. And the learning was great too.
  13. At that price I sincerely doubt that the lines are Spectra, but it is definitely a damn good price for a 1.2 foil with lines and handles. I think that the lower price is a consequence of fewer bridle lines that attach to the sail as compared to a more expensive foil, so it may not hold its shape as well. All said and done, I would buy it and fly it.
  14. The hand position that really works well for my style of flying, including single dual and quad line kites, whether doing compulsory figures or freestyle, high or low wind conditions, on the beach or on a field of mowed grass, when the sun is high and the weather is hot, or at night when the moon shines bright and cool breezes blow, winter summer spring or fall is at the ends of my arms, attached to my wrists. I'll bet you read the whole thing, didn't you?
  15. Lying on my back watching a hawk soar -- for hours -- same, same. I know the feeling and so do others who fly. It starts out as pure innocence and joy. The innocence may disappear, but the joy lasts forever! A suggestion for seating spars that don't want to be stuck into the fitting. A bit of saliva on the spar and it will slide right in. Lick and stick.
  16. No sweat. You'll get the hang of it. Not rocket science and nothing that causes pain or permanent damage.
  17. This is just cruel! Oh, the torment. How long must it go on?
  18. Nice. Flies well. Of course you had nothing to do with that! I think I could have fun with that in a steady 5mph.
