  1. It is hard to beat the ProDancer, as far as being able to get off the ground when there is no wind. The 3d (4d as well...) is a little more difficult, only because it is a small kite and really requires tempered inputs. It is really easy to yank the little kite out of the air because it requires such a light touch. The Acrobatx UL isn't in the same class, it requires a perceptible breeze to fly...
  2. The Prism Hypnotist is bigger than the Quantum, and will take you further down the road as far as capabilities. I just flew a Hypnotist for the first time in about 10 years, and was very impressed with it. Plus, it's a bargain at less than $150.
  3. I haven't been on FA in years, I though it had kinda died off. I will have to check it out. Hope my username still works... Kitelife is the only US based kite forum that I know of that is still active. When I started, there were 5 or 6.
  4. Funny, I was a Kitelife member before I found GWTW. Back then, the posts were very charged & sometimes abrasive between the members. I lurked there, and posted in a much friendlier place to newbies, Kitelife. I took in a great deal of knowledge from both sites, as well as the Prism site. I knew many of yous from all three, but now there is just one. I will say that I am glad to still be in touch with everyone (who's still with us (topic for another conversation)) even though I'm not flying as much as I would like these days. Thank you to all involved in providing these great areas of collaboration, without them I would probably not still be flying, or at least at the level that I've reached so far ! Here's to many more years here, and thank you to those who have retired the torch...
  5. This one might be fun for you Prism-Heads... I2K with Spoilerz ! If you still feel the need to fly a duallie when the winds pick up to 15mph+... this is the kite to fly ! Vented duallies are mooshy feeling, this one still responds like a normal kite. I sold all my vented duallies and kept this one, until now. I haven't been able to fly as much as I like, so I am passing this on to someone who will fly it more. I still have my 4 line kites, so I won't be high and dry when the wind kicks up ! Please indicate your desire to be entered in the drawing by posting "I am in." Some rules and guidelines: Don’t play unless you’re willing to put up a prize and ship it to whoever wins. Shipping is paid by the original poster, the winner pays nothing. Be prepared to ship your prize anywhere in the lower 48 US States. Sorry, but due to shipping costs, we really have to limit this to the lower 48 US States. RULE CHANGE (7/31/2014): Members from Canada, Alaska, and Hawaii are welcome to enter the Karma drawings provided they are willing to pay half of the Karma prize shipping cost. The method and timing of the payment will be agreed upon between the two parties after the drawing for a particular prize. You can choose the length of the giveaway, but keep it between 1 and 2 weeks. Try to ship the prize promptly. You should be able to ship it within a week, but if you can’t, PM the winner and let them know. Sometimes life gets in the way! This whole thing works on the honor system so if there are any problems shipping or receiving a prize, it needs to be worked out between the two parties. Don’t forget…Karma! This isn’t a competition, but feel free to be generous! If you can only put up a hat, or a tail for a stunt kite, great! If you have something in your kite bag that you never fly and would be willing to ship, that’s great too. Either way, the people that join to win it will appreciate it. When you receive your prize, post a thank you to the thread where you won it. The thread will be locked after that point so the new **KARMA** stays above it. Good luck, and have fun! ~Rob. Vented Kites

I would say that ~15mph is the most I would want to fly the I2K in, I'm sure it would take more, though. When you use your Spoilerz, don't forget to adjust the bridle to the Spoilerz position... illusionHighWindSpoilers.pdf
  8. Wow ! I am totally jacked to get a Devil that I haven't flown yet... I have a standard and SUL, and I let my light go (bad move). Now for the hard decision of what to put up for the next drawing...

    Vented Kites

Not a big fan of vented dual line kites. I have had over a dozen, and sold them all off. The two best were the QPro VV and the Mantis VV. Both kites performed the best with all the vent covers on, kinda like a heavy standard. I switched to flying vented 4 line kites when the wind is over 15mph and haven't looked back. The highest wind dual liner that I have now is a Prism I2K with Spoilerz, if I really need a two line fix and the wind's a little high.
  10. Even though kites like the Illusion, I2k, Prophecy can do a dead launch, I would say that it's still not a good idea...
  11. I'm in ! I never should've let my Sea Devil light go, great kites they are...
  12. Beautiful ! I think the Slovenia tourism dept. should be paying you for these pictures... they make me want to visit Slovenia, looks wonderful from a kite !
  13. I believe the I2K is all framed in 5PT... much easier to fix than the original Illusion !
  14. I have never noticed my car kites degrading over the years, but as mentioned above, kites in storage can get stinky especially when moisture is involved. I don't care if my kites stink, but if you're trying to preserve their value for resale, that might be a concern... I just care how they fly !
  15. That's what I do with my bigger SLKs... T
  16. Wow, great shots & a beautiful town.
  17. https://www.youtube.com/user/DPmama74/videos That should keep you busy...
  18. I am the same way. I like the way it looks, have to have it ! That, of course is how I ended up with a ridiculous number of kites in my basement. People who really know how to fly told me to pick a kite and stick with it until I learn how to fly. That may be one reason my learning curve has been so slow. I also have a hard time watching the videos and telling which way the kite is facing sometimes. Then I get out to the field, and everything that I watched goes straight out of my head and I am just flying to keep the kite off of the ground. Throw in a healthy case of dyslexia... well, you can see where this is going. Patience, perseverance, and lots of time on the lines will pay dividends down the road. If you're younger, this will all happen quicker. What the others have said about finding someone to fly with is very true. I have taught others tricks that took me months (sometimes longer) to learn in less than a half hour.
  19. You have what you need as far as kites. Getting any more will just slow your learning curve. All you need is time on the lines and a positive attitude. It will be frustrating, it took me over a year to learn how to axel, for example. Watch all the videos out there, you can learn from any one. Youtube is an amazing resource. Here's a link to your missing Prism video... http://ferob.com/kites/Prism/PDVD.wmv It's available on Utoob as well, but I think if you burn the file to a DVD, it will be close to the original. Mine was on tape, so it wasn't HD. Good luck !
  20. Welcome ! That kite looks like it can do any trick that I've seen. I am looking forward to seeing some new stuff from Dream Weaver !
  21. I'm IN ! If they come my way, I hope the guy who trained them will be my way some day & show me how it's done ! Best wishes, JB.
  22. When you lay the I2K belly down, notice the nose flares up slightly... That's what gives that design an edge over modern designs with the Dead Launch.
  23. I've broken enough kites attempting the Dead Launch that I just never try anymore. Old curved LE kites like the Prism Illusion can do a Dead Launch easier than others...
  24. Belly down, nose towards you = The Walk Of Shame ! 😎
  25. Getting stuck in a Turtle is problematic when flying in low wind. Lam's kites are Turtle-stuck prone, at least the older ones like the Fearless. You have to learn new moves to get out, and even so, it's sometimes difficult.
