  1. Whenever I get the chance, I direct people to this web site after I have told them the current ( to me ) state of kite flying. But knowing people, by the time they get home, they may forget or decide not to check the web site. Also I work inside of a class 100 cleanroom, where internet usage is disabled because of people doing bad things.( acess to youtube or this site is not possible) John, could you please put together some short videos of yourself, IQuad, and others showing 2 and 4 line flying that I could attach to e-mails? When I tell people about indoor flying, or what you can do with rev's, they are impressed. If anyone else has ideas, great. Thanks, KenW
  2. Another nice big kite was this one made by Joel Scholz. It was called the Raptor 20, for I believe it's 20 foot wing span. This one is the Patriot. Here's a link. http://www.skydelight.com
  3. And for us kitelife subscribers who want a shot our 1st rev? I,m trying not grovel here....... OH, here's my dignity. Flyin
  4. This is a great thread that I hope keeps going. My 1st kite was home made. It was an eddy made of dowels, and I believe tissue paper. My dad and I made it as a cub scout badge project about 35 years ago. It flew great, we maxed out the line on the 1st spool, then were able to attach a 2nd spool till it was just a dot up in the air. Ken
  5. I see that kite going with me on my next trip to the beach. I will even post pictures of it flying. ( rub it in a little)
  6. How does that stack fly compared to more recent deltas?
  7. Congrats to you both! Whoo-hoo! How does she like our wonderful great northwest? How do you rev's when snuggled up together?
  8. Camas in Nov. is a maybe. It would be my 1st indoor event to watch. I will know that Saturday morning if I could make it. And I also forgot, Thanks Dave G. for his big inflatables. And everyone else for putting together a great event. Who did the big red cody belong to? Ken
  9. I made it for a few hours. Nice flying Penny, Amy, Conner, I-Quad, Lam and everyone else. This was the 1st time my wife went to a festival, and she enjoyed it. Charlie Chaplin and the Cat in the Hat had the crowd chuckleing, and I-Quad had the crowds in awe. If you noticed a couple with a basset hound seated on the sand where the side walk ended, that was us. Great show eveyone. Ken
  10. Well done, I am impressed. The flying was very good with the kite pilots sitting backwards on a bounceing seat and nothing to hold onto but the kites. And great choice of music also. Fly/Rock on.
  11. I saw a video online a few months ago where someone took a single line foil, and modified it to use 2 lines for doing loops and suchs. I keep looking and can't seem to find it. Anyone seen the one I am talking about?
  12. I am also interested. I am still waiting to do my first axel. Seems like on days with good wind for practice, I am stuck doing something else.
  13. I am not quite goo enough with google maps yet to get a picture, but I am working on. Its on Cornell road at I believe at 34th st? Just south of the Hillsboro airport. The flying spot is not in the flight path of either runway.
  14. For more ideas, google golfball carving. With the center of the ball being solid, people are removing the cover and carving faces and such. Takes more talent then I have though. Be sure to drill and tap the hole 1st, then install the selected treaded rod before carving.
  15. A place I have flown at, after seeing someone else flying there, is the North-East corner of the Washington County Fairgrounds. Due to the fact that it is just south of a small regional airport, this is a better site for 2 or 4 lines kites. Single line kite may go too high. There will be times when it will not be open due to events at the fairgrounds, or during the states biggest airshow. **FlyinKen**
  16. Well, Theresa did a nice job putting this on. As one of the few spectators, I enjoyed it. ( I got to sit out the worst rain in my car ) I had to leave after the last flight, ( snuck out of helping tear down ) but before the placing announcements. Everyone few well with the conditions. Maybe next time I will make more of an effort to help out and meet up with everyone. FlyinKen
  17. Seeing the lack of other responses, you might open a new topic asking the same question. I don't think people are reading this subject. Had I won the kites, I would have tried stacking them also. And if you have not already, post the question on "kitebuilder.com" I don't have any experence on stacks to base a response on. **FlyinKen**
  18. Glad to hear the news of the recovery of the kites. Sometimes the best gift you can get is getting back something you once had. With some of the kites being custom, just buying new ones would not be the same. Now if we could keep the theves locked up 1 year for every item stolen. **FlyinKen**
  19. With the date I picked long gone now, I would of corse like another try at the contest. BUT, the original rules should be followed. I would think that most of the times rules are changed, it creates more problems. There should be no conflicts brought on due to the generosity of someone like Kent. If there are conflicts, others may decide not to do similar things. I appreciate the chance I had at getting one of the great kites you are giving out. Kent, Thanks for your generosity. **FlyinKen**
  20. I am not sure if this is posted anywhere else, so I put it here. Congats Amy on your taking John B's place as our AKA region rep. I can only guess to how busy John was being in I-Quad, doing the rep job, and keeping this wonderful site going. John did a great job. Thanks John. **FlyinKen**
  21. This guys work just astounds me. His name is Scott Hampton. Here is a link to some of his work.http://picasaweb.google.com/mshampton2 (copy and paste) My understanding is this is all done with design master paints. **FlyinKen**
  22. Whoops, sorry about that. It all started when my ........... Just kidding, never been there. But like John said, probably a story to go with it. ( a flyer not being respectful to someone) **FlyinKen**
  23. I agree with the Motel 6. My family (Wife,Son & dog) stayed at the Motel 6 about a month ago, and were were pleased with it. Across the main highway from the Kite Festival is a ( I am 90% certain) Quality Inn. If the cost were about the same, I would get a room there, with a view of the beach. I hope to be there on Saturday. ( I work Sundays ) I would like to meet those of you who can make it. **FlyinKen**

    Seagull

Not to offend anyone , but it could have been those fried pork rinds or something else unusual. **FlyinKen**
  25. I think so, it just takes so much time cause I had to use Microsoft paint for the eyes. ( I like the idea though) I have plans to have mini-kites coming out of the ears or something. Regarding the AKA convention, I hope they get better weather then what we have here in Portland, it's yucky. **FlyinKen**
