  1. Shooks still have the mesh at the LE. I know - I've flown and repaired a loaner, It does seem to be a weak spot for sure!
  2. Rob - what a lot of us have done is have another reinforcing sized piece (think vertical patch) sewn like a belt loop from front to back, edge of sail to edge of sail and over the LE. I had to do my Zen like this and like it so much that I will do it to all the Revs I fly regularly. If you order a "Pro", you can get it done by Bazzer as he builds the kite for you. Otherwise you're going to do it aftermarket! Not sure if the mesh quality has gone down or we just use them more, but that has definitely become a weak spot for sure!
  3. Got one today, flying indoors with JB and TK - awesome!!!
  4. I would think that using a regular cap and having that pocket so close and tight to the LE, would do the trick. I mean the pocket being so tight to the LE might eliminate the need for a bunji and keep both rods working as one. Maybe make the pocket stick up a little higher to let the cap inside overlap the LE? Street flying is, in general, hard on equipment. Wears lines, bridles, caps, LE pockets. Many use something on the caps for protection. Whacking a bunji on a corner or other edge wears them out. Just tough on gear!
  5. Nice treatment on the upper vertical pocket! But the way it's setup, would make it a challenge for the average guy/gal to ever swap bridles out if it wears. Why not a single hole, larkshead the cap, and place in pocket? Eliminates the over the top bridle line that could wear out on street flying (if you do that sort of thing)!
  6. Yep! You can make the loops large, then tie in those tabs, or use another line to make some tabs and add them. I usually add them, but have tied in some on bigger loops. My key here is big loops! Making tabs in small loops just makes the loop even smaller and harder to remove!
  7. Sorry - but try taking that tight larkshead off the bridle attachment easily! Especially if wet or cold! I use little pull tabs made from the core of bridle line used as sleeving, on all my loops. Makes taking lines off at the end of the day, much easier! Also used on my lines at the handle end to make adjustment fast and easy. Just wait til you're over 60, then you'll find you will use every trick you can to make it easier! Here is a pic of something I use.
  8. Very nice!!! I too, would like to see some close ups of the back especially! Interested in how you did the LE and verts!
  9. If the loops are long enough - tie some short tabs into the ends. Maybe steal a 1/2" from the loop? Makes handling those loops much easier in the cold when disassembling the kite.
  10. Connected - yes! Feel the movement - yes!! You see - quad line kites are driven by you! There is no random movement, rather a directed intent to go to there, and then there, etc. I do a lot of team flying - people lined up almost shoulder to shoulder, flying together in patterns and formations! A group working to be one! When it comes together, there is a generally good feeling for all of us! Indoor is a little different - more an individual thing. Leaning how to mentally slow things down and become one with the kite. Satisfaction from both in or out - just in different ways! YouTube available?? Lots of videos on both indoor and outdoor quad line kites, along with 2 line and glider videos! Time worth spending to see the evolution of what flying can be!!
  11. Flew some as a kid, but kiting took hold as a young adult back in 1989. Bought a couple single line kites for the wife and I, but was easily bored. Then I saw someone flying a stunt kite (dual line) and was hooked for many years. Had a stroke and flying took a back burner to overcoming some of the obstacles that presented. Finally got it back together and started flying very seriously from 2009 til present. My preferred style of flying now is a 4 line kite, Ultimate control is where it's at for me! Even learned to fly indoors at 59! I call my flying "Wind Therapy"! I may have physical limitations, but my kite doesn't! It represents my soul and feeling out there, free to play in the wind!
  12. In for a long haul, crazy ride my friend!!! Congrats to you and TK!!! My ear is always open to bend if needed - LOL!! Something along the lines of "been there, done that!"
  13. Street flying is very hard on gear anyway. Blew out an original diamond (first run) right at the point where the ferrule ended. Had about 2" still on the ferrule and the rest - trashed. Now my diamonds only fly at the beach with the rest of my team on SULs!! It'd need to be pretty bad to use them in any other situation.
  14. I had my team mate repair one - she used a sewing machine set on a zig-zag stitch. Large stitches going from good mesh to good mesh. The repair has held under pretty severe use for over 3 years. YMMV
  15. So you plan to do it? If so, plan on making your loops way bigger than the ones shown in the video. Remember you're making a larkshead in them, and really small loops are not easy to make them. Do you know why they were made? They are favored by speed kiters, trying to gain any little aerodynamic edge. For them, sleeving is inefficient. Most kiters wouldn't be able to tell any difference. But they are clean and neat.
  16. It is preferred to go through a dealer, but you can purchase direct from Rev. 1-858-679-5785 ask for Lolly
  17. The "Black Rainbow" color combo is a Kite Connection exclusive. Where was the pic of the 1.5 SLE taken??
  18. I use 50', 85', and 120' x 50# lines mostly. Sometimes 120' x 90# if I think wind will pick up! Drive is a relative term! You can still get it, even on more brake. You just gotta learn to "feel" it. With the ability to fly in winds that light, "squaring up" is even more important. Hovering is tough, especially upright! Sideways are not too bad and the sail loves to be inverted! Did you notice a tendency to over rotate in the turns? Gotta learn when to stop giving commands and let it finish!!
  19. Funny you mention indoor!! I find flying indoors - improves my outdoor flying more than outdoor helps my indoor skills! Something about the touch and feel you develop indoors, without the wind's help, that makes your outdoor flying better.
  20. First of all - FORGET the factory wind range!!! I wouldn't put up a Rev 1 in those winds, unless I'm looking to break stuff! Why do you think they make as many models of kites as they do?? Midvent, full vent, xtra-vent, all have their own "sweet spot" in the wind range. You could fly in the stated ranges - yep and risk stuff going snap!! Too many get caught up in the numbers and forget common sense in flying the right kite for the conditions! But that comes with experience in all kinds of winds, both light and heavy and everything in between. IMHO that is way more wind than a Rev 1 was designed to be in! Pretty sure there is either here or on the Rev forum - a pretty good list of the spars, with a scale of strengths to help you decide on the "right ones". SR is correct - ALL 1.5 bridles fit ALL 1.5 size sails! Rev 1 bridles fit 1s and Zens! There isn't anything stronger than a 4 wrap unless you contact the factory and have something custom made. Yes you can make your own from blank rods, if you have the correct tools, glue, ferrules, to do so. Many have, but they also usually have years of experience and know what they are getting to do this. Do you know the difference between a P90 and a P400 Sky Shark rod? Unless you do - you might end up getting something lighter rather than stronger. YMMV!
  21. Did Morgan get ahold of you about his subscription and Paypal? Mentioned he was having issues at the indoor.
  22. Yesterday the reply box wasn't visible from my end - now it is! Just testing to see how it works now!!
  23. Lighter than 3 wrap? 2 wrap, race, Zen for 1.5, or diamonds are the only thing come to mind. And unless special ordered - no travel option in those (that I know of). Consider making your own?? Got a Dremel tool? Fine tooth hacksaw? If you are willing - buy the frame of choice and make one! PS: another option is to make one from P-90 SkyShark rods!
  24. Will let you know if I see anything "quirky" LOL!
