Forget the watch, save yourself! Flying at Stillicoom Park in Lakewood you have to own goose poop shoes.. and it's ok to drag your kite a little in the winter.. when things are frozen, but not any other time of year. ewhhhhh... See, I still had a kite poo story left in me.. Carl.. oh... Carl.... You didn't think that story was about you, did ya? Hey, where's Rick.. What did he meet? A blonde or redhead? BB Penny

wow! It's getting deep around here. Think I"ll go indoor fly. Remind's me of the kite joke.. ok stop me if I've told this... heheh you can't! Two Newbie KITE JUDGES ... Dressed like Scott Davis in tropical baggy shorts, socks and sandles, a shirt to busy to deciper.... (hey, don't think I'm insulting Scotty, I dress like this too, huh) and of course a kite hat. They come onto the field with clipboards, pencils, binnoculars around their necks. Karl the tall one looks all serious, while Rick the shorter one is looking all over, taking in the kites in the air and the ehhh colors on the ground. (the body types have been changed to protect the innocent) Karl says,"Wow, finally we get to be judges.. Even after you shadowed judged.. we still get to be judges! I heard there was a new trick on the field and we were going to see some great axels, and oh.. I heard the fountain up from the german guy is the smoothest. We can't take our eyes off of those kites for a minute! I wouldn't want to miss it! You gotta pay attention.. no crashing into the pilot.. pay attention! Rick acting like a mouth breather (kite talk for someone who looks up at all the kites with their mouth open in awe as they trip over kite lines and logs) says.... yeah.... yeahhh.. wouldn't want to miss it, uh huh, pay attention. Karl says... "ok, their getting ready to start... put your pencil up! Both judges put thier pencils up to the sky (to help judge the kites movements in the window and Joey... sees a cute girl and tracs his pencil across to her. Karl says.. Wow! Did you see it? Did you see it! Rick, swings back, aaahhhh, no........ I missed it! Karl takes off his hat and slaps him upside the head.... "Dummy, you missed it... pay attention.... Here comes that German flyer, check this out.. Now pay attention! Pencils up... and they both swing thier arms up to put that line in the sky..... but once again.. Joey's roving eyes pick up on a chick.. and his head turns 90 degrees to see her walk by. Wow! that was amazing! Said Karl. "Yeah, amazing" said Rick.. Oh, good you saw it, what are you going to score it? asked Karl. "aaaahh, aaaah, I don't know.... I missed it.... Rick whimpered. "Dummy, you got to pay attention! Karl said as he took off his hat and swatted his old buddy on the head.. Now pay attention.. Look up in the sky.. at the kite... not at the girls!! I swear you got dropped from a cody once to often! Pay attention! "Ok, OK, I'll look up, I'll pay attention..Rick promised. Look, look, my pencils up... I'm ready.. Good, we better get a little closer, lets move up" Karl said. There, do you see it? Do you see it? Yeah, I see it ! explained Rick. Finally feeling on task. Ahhhh, Dummy,... says Karl... Then WHY did you step in it?!?!? The End Now who says, we don't have kite poo? Penny.... wading out of the forum. humming.... Whidhbey Island is coming this weekend! BB Penny

Hi Deb, http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries/schedules/current/index.cfm That should get you to any boat your looking for. Work is sending us to the Puyallup Friday afternoon to play, then I leave. Sad thing is, unless I can change the boss's mind to allow me to go am, I'll be stuck in that lovely traffic crossing the bridge. ewwww adds at least a good hour to the commute. I'll be taking the Pt. Townsend to Keystone Ferry. Is that the one your looking to catch? Have you been in touch with Aiyana, she was planning on an early start, too. It will be a fun weekend! See you two there. BB Penny

Sounds like life is good Kristi. What kind of music does the MUSE play? I like the name. You know how we kiteflyers are... always looking for new music. Well, I better go get my gear together and head for a fun fly before I turn into a responsible person. (I'll vacuum tomorrow. ) BB Penny

The spelling might not be correct, but if the weather holds out long enough (this is Wa.. just wait 5 minutes and it will change) Mainframe Kite shop is holding a fun fly at Stillacoom Park. This Sunday, Sept. 19th. Hope to make it and see everyone there. Depends on how much dancing I do at my nieces wedding the evening before. BB Penny

Aiyana is coming down and I'll be there, giving lessons, demo's and judgiing. This will be the first time in years that I've gotten to Whidbey Island and they have an indoor. Hopefully some of the Canadian Indoor Flyers will be popping down, too. See you there! BB Penny

How much more school do you have left, or are you done? How's work? Etc, etc. My daugter and the grandkids will be moving to Italy. How sad for me... exciting for her. Wonder if there's any good festivals in Italy? Good to see your still out there. BB Penny -

Stan andI have been emailing me and he had questions on how to keep the kite up on such short lines. I'm going to post my reply. Hope you don't mind Stan.. Oh, and I had to add a paragraph on the indoor version. Here tis. -----Original Message----- From: Penny Lingenfelter [mailto:revkitedancer@hotmail.com] Sent: Tuesday, August 10, 2004 4:09 PM To: stanleybacon@hotmail.com Subject: kite preaction Hi Stanley, The way to keep that kite up is to keep it moving. Pre-action... everything you actually make it do you have to tell it before it will do it. That's a 1/4 of a move before it actually happens. When I teach people to turn the kite over from the leading edge on the ground. 1) lines tight, 2)long arms... step back., take both feet. 3) one foot behind you so you don't fall. Now since the kite is in reverse, push down on only one thumb.. and move your arm down and around like your bowling. Keeping your arm against your body so you don't pull the kite out of the wind window. (Some people tend to pull out in a circle. think about what that does to the kite.. pulls it out of the wind window.. one corner to you) Inside**** This move may actually be your arm drawing a 1/2 circle or arch in front of you. ie. Right turn over; Take your right arm put it thumbs down over your left hand and draw an arch over your head. Remember, it's what ever works! As you turn the kite over with that thumb-be ready to "pre-act" When the kite is facing 9:00 (right thumb turn) Push down on your left thumb... the message will race down the lines and stop it at 12:00. If you wait till 12:00 to push the brakes, the kite will keep going and turn 180 degree back to the leading edge on the ground. Now you probably know by now.. preaction becomes second nature. You tell the kite what to do and it does it. The same thing with short lines. Preaction and learning what it takes is important. You do have to do some walking in no wind. Even light wind, but it can be slow, circular, straight back, even forward... But if there is no wind you have to move. Pay special attention to the end of your handles. Are you flying with them pointing down most of the time? They need to go up, if you want it to go up. Oh.. did you lower your hands on the handles... very helpful. When the kite is on tip.. facing say 9:00.... pull back on the top wing... towards your ear! Check out what that does to the kite.. tilts it in such a manner it catches air and gos up. Again what you do with the bottom of the handles determines what the kite will do. The ends will probably need to be pointing slightly up. But since it's just like your holding the kite when you fly, your hands should be right over left.. with a 90 degree turn in them.. so instead of ^ ^ they should be < two of those - one on top of the other.. that's how you fly it on tip across the window.. cause if you bring your handles down to ^^ you've told the kite to fly facing 12:00. Learning to pull back a little for lift, helps.. and keeping it moving helps. Start with overheads. Try to point those handles all the way up to th sky... upside down! That will make the kite go over your head! Keep walking forward and push down to use your breaks and you can stop the flight behind you. oops.. gotta go.. hope this helps. BB Me Remember there is no right or wrong way.. it's whatever works! We all have different styles and that's part of the excitement of kiteflying! BB Penny

something different for indoors or no wind flying
Penny Lingenfelter replied to kitecrazy's topic in Indoor Flying
Wow, that's interesting. Flown them inside without the radio control, but that's something for everyone without the work. People come up with the neatest ideas. BB Penny -
Honey, I'm so sorry to hear that. Our energies and prayers will go out to all. Take her lots of smiles. BB Penny

Buggying with the Super Blast
Penny Lingenfelter replied to Penny Lingenfelter's topic in Quad Heads
I like lto watch kite jumping, surfing boarding.... all of it. Just be careful out there. And share the pictures and the knowledgle. Thanks for all the help you've given me with my preconceptions. Preconceptions can cause a lot of problems, or hold a lot of people back. That information was priceless. I don't want to go to someone's web page and read all about it. I want my questions answered, or other's questions answered that I might learn from it. And it's great we're trying not to be judgemental in this forum. Now hold on Rick. Cody's can require more then one hand. You know Cody's are a man lifting machine. I've got the shirt to prove it! Melinda Davis created a few excellent cartoon shirts about a decade ago. One of them is a guy changing a flat tire. Nothing unusual about that, but the jack he used to raise the car was a cody wound around a tree limb for leverage. I like it. I thought about you when I wore it the other day. Thought I might give it to you.. but thinking it's maybe a little small...... and huh.. how do you feel about wearing hot pink? BB Penny -
repetative motion is said to cause it. At one time they said computers, then they said not. Sewers, jewlery setters, people who use small motor skills alot tend to get it even more then people on the computer. If you are prone to it, exercise does help. Not overdueing. And quads handles the choice of long throws or super ultra light handles help to keep your wrist movement down. I do baby my wrist, massage and pressure point. So far I've kept my pain to a minimum. Does it cause it? Good question. Can it compound an existing problem? Another good question. John is right.. just watch what your doing. It might even be a form of therapy if done right. If you have concerns ask your doctor, see what he says. So far kite flying has been very healthy for me over all. BB Penny

lets talk price. John, is your extra bed, or beds in a differernt room then the others? Aiyana and I were to share a room at a house, but we'll find out Frid. if we are still able to get it. The person who is obtaining it has to back out, and her boyfriend, and hmmmm, I could sleep in my van... sleeps one pretty good. But then theres the shower factor. BB Penny If you two could please email me with details, tks! Penny
